Muramasa Inspired Platormer AeternoBlade Shows Off Time Reversal Feature

By Ishaan . November 7, 2013 . 12:03pm

AeternoBlade, the Nintendo 3DS game inspired partly by Castlevania and partly by Muramasa: The Demon Blade, is coming along, and developer Corecell have released a new trailer that demonstrates the game’s combat and time-reversal mechanic.

In addition to time-reversal, AeternoBlade features a combo unlock system as well as an upgrade system. Freyja, the game’s protagonist, can learn over 40 different moves, which can be incorporated into different kinds of combos with each move that you choose to unlock. You can learn about the game’s combo system here.

In Japan, AeternoBlade will be published for the Nintendo eShop by Arc System Works. The game will also be released in North America and Europe, but Corecell haven’t shared details on who will be publishing the title in the west.

  • Wow!! Had heard nothing about this until now. Inspired by Castlevania and Muramasa!!!! I hope it’s a good’un.

  • Go2hell66

Still cant see any muramasa in this

    • 하세요

You serious? The combat looks just like it.

      • I wouldn’t say just like it, but it definitely has some similar moves and flow.

      • Go2hell66

Other than they both have swords no i cant really see it

        • ShadowDivz

          Me neither.

  • Chelsea

Time reversal? Where have I heard of that before…?

Oh yeah, Bunny Must Die, that’s right.

  • Yan Zhao

Surprisingly interesting game I havent heard about. Will be keeping this on my radar.

  • MrJechgo

Sands of Time, eat your heart out XD

    • Belenger

Should kind of just said inspired by Sands of Time, rather than Muramasa sure its a sort of current title within the news, but that comparision it’s little bit stretched out, little bit

      • Actually, they themselves have cited Muramasa and Castlevania, which is why we mentioned those.

  • This looks very cool on paper but… I don’t really like the low-budget feel. The game lacks certain level of professional presentation and seems like it tries too hard to imitate bigger games.
It just feels lackluster and with identity problems, sadly. May not look like a masterpiece but it could be neat to kill some time, I guess.

    • Go2hell66

Thats probably because they are actually on a low budget

      • I see. I didn’t really look up info on the game till now.
        It’s not incredibly surprising, either.

    • Suicunesol

It’s being developed by a new studio based in Thailand, which is not a country known for having many game developers. I’m not expecting anything amazing in terms of graphics or optimization either. I like the time manipulation powers, though. I guess whether or not you buy it depends on whether you like supporting new/indie developers.

      • I like supporting new developers, but this doesn’t exactly make me put much hope in them honestly.
It’s not only the whole “it’s our first game” feeling, but that it genuinely lacks original ideas drowned in old ideas.
What I like about indies or new developers to see is new stuff; where no developer has ever walked. Not more of the same but with less shine and less care.

  • Frank Bautista

I’m glad this game is getting published. It tried to go the crowdfunding route via Indiegogo but didn’t make it. Good to see some of these titles still getting eyed by publishers.

  • Sentsuizan_93

….Why have I only heard of this recently? This looks awesome! :O

  • J_Joestar

the in-game portion looks pretty cool, the cinematic stuff in the trailer looks incredibly stiff and poor though…

  • KuroNathan

So…. am I the only one who saw the opening cinematic and thought to themselves, “bare breasts against plate mail? ow”

  • eilegz

not bad, but jaggies fest, considering that muramasa and previous castlevania 2d graphics its better than any of this “2.5D” jaggie fest that its geting released on the 3ds, i really hope they polish it…

    • revenent hell

Personally I didn’t notice quite that many to be calling it a “jaggie” fest. Unless of course you’re using it as a term for something else I’m unaware of.

      • Suicunesol

He calls almost all 3DS games jaggie-fests.

        • revenent hell

Ah a hater then. I’ll remember this in future, Thank you!

  • revenent hell

You normally wouldn’t see a curve for side boob showing like that…. seriously… That irk aside I will definantly be picking up this game looks pretty fun to me.

Edit : This actually reminded me of Lightning for some reason. I really don’t get the feel of Muramasa or Castlevania it reminded me more of the FF XIII games. Not sure why but eh

  • ShadowDivz

Why is she wearing believable armor protection?

Everyone knows that for women, the less armor they have the better.

    • revenent hell

That’s right just give them metal spike pasties and a metal flap that covers their privates and call it a day.

      • ShadowDivz

        Exactly! +50 def right there!

        • revenent hell

          I lol’d

  • It reminds me of Code of Princess which I loved so yay =^_^=

  • Göran Isacson

Frame rate is kinda slow and it’s not a looker… but darnit, I’m kinda interested in this one still. Bosses look neat, and the time-tricks one uses look like they could be fun to play around with. Trailer theme wasn’t bad either, just might keep an eye out for this one.

  • Guest

So… it’s basically like Castlevania+Prince of Persia, right?
You know, with that reverse & freeze time thingy…

  • XypherCode

    Dem hips O_O

  • Air Mega Slash?
Reminds me of those moves in ‘Tales of’ games.

    • Jettythesunfish

      Rising Tiger Blade!

  • Kevin Schwarz

Okay, this actually looks like CRAP compaired to Muramasa. This game looks BAD.

  • Rokkun

Would’ve been better if it were 2D.

  • Ben Green

the chick looks like lightning, the time reversal thing reminds me of Prince of Persia Sands of Times, and the gameplay is very reminiscent of Castlevania. hmmm

  • Ric Vazquez

Absolutely getting this for my 3ds

  • Galen Nycroft

Plate mail with sideboob? The main villainess also has sideboob. That’s new! The music sounds great.
