Super Mario Galaxy’s Rosalina will be a playable character in Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo announced this morning during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The announcement was part of a new trailer for the game, which you can view below.

In addition to the Rosalina reveal, Nintendo also showed off optional touch screen and microphone features for the game that use the Wii U GamePad. Additionally, they revealed that Super Mario 3D World contains a Luigi version of the original Mario Bros.

Finally, the game also has Mario Kart-themed bonus stages that involve racing against other characters.

Super Mario 3D World will be available on November 22nd for Wii U.

Love that hair covering one eye. She looks like a supermodel!

    • PreyMantis

      Or Gardevoir ;P

  • mockturtle

Say goodbye to free time. Also OMG ROSALINA YESSSS

  • Aemette

Okay, this indeed is the newest Mario Game to date in my opinion. No simplicity, no age-old content, and no capture of Peach. This game looks amazingly fun and I can’t wait to play it.

  • John Diamond

Why do siliconera consistently keep posting pictures of spoilers in the titles and pictures of their articles?
I am one of those people who simply like being completely in the dark as much as i can when i play a game. It’s like when they posted the picture of the unreleased legendary pokemon, or when they posted the picture of EVERY new character in Pheonix wright, or the attack on titan one when they told you that someone can transform.
It’s seriously irksome, and before some one comes along and says ‘well what’re you doing on a gaming news channel if you don’t want spoilers’ or ‘dis is the internet’ Let me just say, i rarely get any of this when i go to other websites like ign, gamespot or mynintendonews.

    • Then maybe you should stop visiting game new sites like siliconera

      • John Diamond

Like i said beforehand, This seldom happens to me on other video game sites

        • (vara/バラ)

          So mynintendonews isn’t spoilerrific either?

          • John Diamond

and at no point did i say Mynintendonews isn’t guilty of this either. i just said it doesn’t happen to me as often.

          • (vara/バラ)

In my honest opinion, sites like mynintendonews and Siliconera are smaller than IGN, Gamespot, etc. Those bigger sites have more of a reputation to uphold and are more renowned and widely accessed. If multiple smaller sites are reporting ‘spoilers’ the same way, it’s probably best to stay away from them.

      • Patrick McAleer

Having news is one thing. Obviously that’s what this website is for. But they don’t need to blatantly spoil things in the titles of their articles because that takes the option away from someone.

If they had titled this as “New playable character for Super Mario 3D World Revealed” then it would be up to us to decide whether we want to know who it is or not.

Blame the developer for it. They’re the ones given “spoilerific” news about their new games. And seriously, you want to know what a spoiler news is? Go to any SE console final fantasy news for theirs new games aside from Versus/XV. These guys accepted the usage of HUGE HUGE plot relevant pic in Dengeki PS COVER when Type-0 came out. Or how Metal Gear Rising got so much story details revealed that we could say what would happen in 60-70% percent of the game.
Knowing who is the new playable character in a video game news article is normal and been happening since what? the 90s?.

          • TempestTwin

Ever heard the saying “two wrongs don’t make a right”? That’s exactly what Siliconera is doing. Obviously people such as myself don’t like watching nintendo direct, and I purposely avoid it. Just because Nintendo direct and other sites post spoilers doesn’t mean Siliconera has to. Siliconera should just put spoiler tags, that is all.

    • Patrick McAleer

      I agree.

I wish they would just say something that alludes to what the article is about, rather than have the main point of the article in the title.

Like for new characters/songs that will be in a game.

    • ZnTxn

If the developers didn’t spoil those things in the first place, then I could have agreed with you.

Edit: Oh, you meant in the title, not the article itself. My bad, I agree with that. Maybe they should add a spoiler tag?

    • InfectedAI

Agreed. How hard is it to make a title that makes its point without a spoiler? ‘Today’s Nintendo Direct reveals a 5th unlockable character for Super Mario 3D World.’

    • TempestTwin

I agree with you. Seriously I am getting sick of siliconera always posting articles on every single little detail of a game, and it is usually details that we do not need to know about.

Siliconera is a good site, I love coming on here for their accurate information and great news articles, but when they post spoilers about games and every little information about a game that’s when they are crossing the line. I am grateful for the site, but is it really that hard to add in *spoiler* tags in the article or in the title of the article? Heck, why not even have a “spoiler” section for the site. That way People like me and John Diamond would be able to avoid these articles.

      • John Diamond

not really much of a spoiler tag, i’d rather they did something along the lines of more vague titles. and these guys being silly, i’m not complaining only about this article, i’m simply saying that they keep posting so much information about some games which you can’t really avoid

  • Altumn

Im hoping that she’s playable in the new Smash Bros. This gives me hope that she is, I don’t see why she wouldn’t be she’s awesome.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      I hope she’s a costume

      • John Diamond

i just hope she isn’t a peach clone like how dr mario or roy are clones of different characters

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

She takes up a character slot.
Sheik is a transformation and so is Zero suit samus.
She can be a costume for peach

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I hope this one doesn’t end up as a dream and hey, rosalina for smash bro would be lovely too …

    • TheGioG

Smash Ball! You are my new light!!!

  • Weeb

Cat suit Rosalina. Yes, I am okay with this.

      pixiv here we go…

    • idrawrobots

That is the first thing I thought about.

  • Zero_Destiny

Guys. I’m getting pretty tired of all these “Spoilers this, Spoilers that!!!!” comments I’m seeing. We’re a news site, we report the news, it is what it is.

I get it, you wanna come in and enjoy the game without having every little tidbit told to you. I’m bringing it up with Ishaan now to see if the headlines can be a little more vague. But for now, reframe from talking about spoilers and media politics and all that jazz, just comment on the news proper. Any more of it I’m gonna call off-topic. You’re all warned.

    • *read title* “god dammit i been spoiled*
*click on article* “god dammit I been spoiled again”
*write comment* “y u spoil me?”

      • mirumu

Yep. And it’s hard to see how anything announced in a Nintendo Direct about a Nintendo game can be considered a spoiler anyway. It’s a bit like saying seeing the picture of a character on the cover of the game is a spoiler.

        • It’s all part of advertisement. You got to entice your potential customer somehow.

      • John Diamond

well ain’t it all fine and dandy that i complained only about the title, because it would be a bit stupid if i read the article THEN complained

        • Ferrick

to be frank, even if you did complain after reading the article, it will still sound seriously stupid

    • Brimfyre

Here here. It’s an extra playable character in a Mario game. If Nintendo hadn’t reveled it today, most of you would have read the same thing in GameFAQS after the game was released and been like, “OMG SWEET!” and not consider it a spoiler.

Spoiler tags should only be used for endings, not unlockables.

      • idrawrobots

I don’t play games for the endings, I play them for the journey. After I know I want a specific game I usually stop looking at anything regarding that game. I was blissfully ignorant about Super Mario Galaxy 2.

    • Sentsuizan_93

This. So much. Seriously, if unlockables are considered spoilers, then by that logic, this article is a spoiler. And really, I noticed this “spoiler” nonsense recently, not just with this, but with other articles too. Particularly the Pokemon X/Y articles. It’s getting tired. And it needs to stop.

    • Shippoyasha

Yeah. People need a little self initiative with spoilers. See a headline of a game you are playing or intend to play, then tread lightly. I totally saw you writing that post with Kudou Shinichi’s exasperated face.

    • Warren

I appreciate the spoils cause it gives me an incentive to play for, which will make me want to play the game over and over again.

    • TempestTwin

I visit Siliconera for news on games, yes. I don’t like it when siliconera has to post every single detail that is announced by a developer.

If Ishaan and the rest of the siliconera team could be a bit more considerate to myself and other people who do not want to read spoilers, then that would be greatly appreciated.

      • Arcana Wiz

well they are a new gaming site… so you ask that they dont post the news that the devs post? you ask them to dont do their work?

cause i like siliconera cause it will post every update in japanese games sooner or later, and then i wont have to visit other websites to search informations…

But like zero said, they will ty to be more vague n the headlines…. so everybody wins.

        • TempestTwin

I understand siliconera needing to post news, but as I’ve said in my previous posts they don’t need to post every single little detail about the game, and be considerate for users of this site who do not want to see news such as this.

Siliconera is a fantastic site, I’ve been going on here for years now, all I would appreciate for them is to add in spoiler tags in some of their articles or be more vague in the titles.

One thing that I find ridiculous is all of their final fantasy lightning returns articles, where they write an article on every little detail. “Nora isn’t in the game” “Fang returns” and all this other stuff. Just stop, I like being informed to a degree and I don’t mean to sound like a whining little kid but just take it easy on the articles or do the right thing and add in spoiler tags or be more vague in titles. And should I even bring up Phoenix Wright 5? Enough is enough.

    • MrJechgo

I don’t think you should blame yourself for spoilers. You might wanna blame the Japanese media who can’t keep a secret about their video games, so they reveal everything in hopes to drives more sales.

    • Amen man.

  • KuroNathan

Am I the only one who thinks rosalina looks like gardevoir?

  • Kaihedgie

Well I know what I’m getting this X-mas

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

I will say this: this epic-ly amazing. I can imagine one/all of the four players arguing over who gets to play as her.

    That I can see happening.

  • This was the most exciting news of the SMW3D part to me~. I love Rosalina. ♥
I was already kind of hype over the game, but I want it so bad now.

My inner 3d mario games lover is really impresed by this one, specially knowing that Roslina is playable character.

And since Rosalina is a playable character…Could we have a Super Princess Rosalina on the 3DS now? Or a new Super Princess Peach that we could are able to play as Peach, Daisy and Rosalina

    • J_Joestar

      like this?

      • Chaos_Knight

      • epy

The art makes Peach look useful. Quite an accomplishment.

        • ShadowDivz

I see what you did thar.

looks lika a Super Princess Peach made by Platinum or Monolith Soft..DO WANT!

Just please make her unlockable by beating the game and not through collecting every single green star and stamp, though I’d simply grit my teeth and collect those stars and stamps if the latter would be how you unlock her.

  • Warren

#10 should be enough of a reason for anyone to buy this game! That and playing as Peach.

  • Göran Isacson

Holy hell all dat content. All these things. Bonus-stages and bonus-modes and so much goood stuff. I am excite. I am very, very excite.

  • MrJechgo

I wonder why Rosalina instead of Daisy… unless they’re hinting at Super Mario Galaxy 3 for Wii U soon ^_^
Then again, I’m not complaining. She’s one of my favorite characters, and boy do I love her in the latest Mario Kart games.

  • ShadowDivz

My favorite nintendo princess? Do want.

  • Tch, I wanted Daisy :V

    • Jettythesunfish

Though I like Rosalina, I have to agree. Daisy needs to be in a platformer already! Or at least be playable in something that isn’t a party game.

I’ve even been playing around with the idea of a Mario & Luigi RPG spinoff but with Peach & Daisy! If only that could really happen….

      • I also had i mind it’d be great to have a Peach & Daisy adventure!

Although hopefully it wouldn’t be as silly as Super Princess Peach lol.

  • Loli Summoner

Dammit!! Mario stop making fun games D: let sonic win for once lol,but really this game looks awesome!,also rasalina get out of the mario world, you’re to pretty to be in a mario game lol jk.

  • Ben Sylvia

And now I envy everyone who has or can afford to get a Wii U for this game.

    Being poor sucks.

Wonder if there might be one or two more hidden characters.

  • Anthony Birken

I’d love me some of that giant Rosalina anytime

  • Jeffrey Thrash

I swear, if Wii U sales don’t skyrocket after this game comes out, I’ll be shocked.

  • Gojira Twit

Why does she sound so bored?

    • Warren

because she has to put up with all those peasants.
