Bravely Default’s Downloadable SP Drinks Are In The European Version, Too

By Ishaan . November 18, 2013 . 9:30am

Bravely Default’s downloadable “SP Drinks” that make the RPG a little easier will be available in the Europe version of the game, Nintendo World Report have confirmed.

As reported in the past, SP Drinks are paid downloadable items that allow you to regain your SP. SP is used to freeze time during battles and do increased damage. While SP can be refilled by putting your Nintendo 3DS in sleep mode, if you don’t want to wait, you can pay real money to download SP drinks and refill your SP.

Bravely Default will be available in Europe on December 6th and in North America on February 7th.

These are still a dumb moneygrab. One of the interviews when these were announced talked about how they wanted to add a mechanic to help out weaker players complete the game. The whole sleep system and SP drinks could have been done with play coins to create the exact same effect without the nickel-and-dime DLC.

basically, SE is trying to squeeze their less savory tactics into this game, because it’s success blew up in Japan.

I wouldn’t be surprised if BD2 has the same “feature”.

Your best bet is to not cave in and give them any more of your money. Buy that game and show them that’s what you want, not some pay-to-win nonsense.

Buy a game to not play it. Only, in this industry.

and i am still fine with it since i am not forced to use it

You’re missing the point. It’s not supposed to be there in the first place. This is Square wanting a cash grab after you paid full price.

    • Zizal

True that but I hope people wont fall for it. I don’t want microtransactions in my games.

There’s nothing to fall for, really. If you are impatient and want to easy mode your way through the game, the SP Drinks are a way to do that. Most people aren’t going to *want* to play the game that way, but if someone wants to cheap shot their way through in exchange for half a paycheck, then more power to them. That’s a type of person, and they’re only robbing themselves and giving Square more money to do what they do.

As microtransactions go, optional things like this that only service a certain type of player instead of being borderline mandatory are exactly the sort of thing I’m fine with.

        • Zizal

I am talking about future games. Now they are optional but when people start to accept them they wont be optional anymore just like the dlc.

        • Pockystix

you can already adjust the difficulty, lower or increase the battle encounter rate, adjust exp and ap gained, this is basically just SE saying; “you still want it EASIER? Well, fork up some extra cash”

I can understand some people don’t have time for games, but this is handheld gaming we’re talking about. You really can’t get any more on-the-go than this. Especially with all the features already in it. And I wouldn’t think actually advocating robbing the lazy as something we should be doing, if this is a community. ‘Cuz honestly, they can’t rob themselves anymore than SE wants them to at this point. . .

Optional DLC like this im all for.
It doesn’t really impact the games story and if I don’t buy it I don’t feel like a part of the game was ripped out and sold in bits later for me to buy.
Granted I probably wouldn’t waste my money on this but its the type of DLC that I can totally agree with

I’d pay for something that lets me bypass the streetpass stuff.

    • Taedirk

You could buy the stuff to make a HomePass relay. I’m fairly certain I’ve seen setups under $30 for basic functionality.

      • James Williams

You know i might do that, i feel bad for that one little lady in my village spending 10 hours to move a boulder.

  • Detrimont

from playing the demo, it’s really not that hard to grind in this game, just find a group of enemies that give good JP, increase encounter rate and battle speed to the max, find a good battle setup(aka, having secondary ability as valkyrie and just spam crescent moon with all the characters) and then just run around until a battle, hold right on the d-pad, press it again, watch the battle commence, battle results, repeat process
