Third Persona Teaser Streamed On Atlus’ Countdown Stream

By Ishaan . November 23, 2013 . 7:15am

Atlus’ third—and presumably final—Midnight Channel tease for their upcoming Persona announcement is now available for viewing. The tease aired just minutes ago on the countdown to Sunday night’s Persona reveal, and you can watch it below, courtesy YouTube user MysticMage97.

    Giant TVs? Can we expect Shadows coming to the real world? No? Ok ;-;

  • Saeed Al-Thumali

does that mean whatever’s going to be announced on Sunday will be shown also on those Advertisement boards?

    • Kaetsu

It seems there going to broadcast it across Japan on the big TV’s. It’s entirely possible since there already playing the Persona 3 The Movie trailers on them.

  • Kj Kim

    plz PERSONA 5

  • leingod

This doesn’t suggest anything to me. LOL I suck.

  • shafiq95

For the love of god, dont let persona 5 just be Persona 4-2,I want a whole new cast with cameos from persona 4 THATS ALL.The characters in P4 has already had alot of character development and we have heard each of their stories.I see no reason why they should be in another game except for P4A 2

    • Azzrem

i bet all of us would still play it if it’s true

      • Ric Vazquez

    • Herok♞

I am fine with Persona 4-2 as long as they don’t use the name Persona 5 that is all I ask since I like how all the numbered games are standalone adventures with their own casts. I am fine if in P5 you have your new characters and then they pull a P2 in the way they handle the old characters as long as they don’t become the main focus.

      • Kaetsu

      • Kudan

Seems a little OCD if you ask me, i know what you mean but the name of the game is just that. I wouldn’t mind a P4 Eternal Punishment but i think most people are just waiting for a whole new story.

    • ペート

I don’t think ATLUS would do that, it would entirely ruin the flow of the whole Persona branch..I entirely agree though. They’d be digging themselves into a hole by just doing Persona 4 stuff…

    • TheRealMalek

Just one thing if it’s persona 5 with both older persona 3 and 4 characters in a whole japan (six locations) and some new one plus a new MC i would play it ! Maybe even more than another persona with a whole new cast.

    • Karin Shita

Well, first of all, what makes you think it’s Persona 5? o__o It’s most likely Persona 4 related since there’s too many similarities (and maybe some P3), but I don’t see how it’s gonna be Persona 5.

    • Mc-kun

      Isn’t Persona 4 Arena technically Persona 4-2?

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Well for it to be that big to be screening on big screens across JPN, I think it highly suggest and implies that it will be truly a game of epic proportions and scale, most likely indicating ps4 will get some persona love. Hyped.

    • ペート

I remember them saying P5 was meant to be released on PS3…that might have changed though, since that announcment is two years old.

      • It was also mentioned last year as well in an intervie with Hashino, and the game was “Well into development”, so the likelihood of it changing would be the difference of–

“Do we scrap what we have because it was on PS3 which can’t be ported to PS4.”

“Continue with what we’ve got and make an entry on PS3 like we previously stated.”

      • LightZero

They didn’t say anything about consoles except that they are working on it. It could be on the PS3, Vita, and even the 3DS since there is an unannounced title for it and dominating Japan. I highly doubt it will come to the PS4 at least exclusively. The PS4 doesn’t have a good user base yet not to mention Atlus isn’t shy about staying on past gen systems. P3, P4, and Raidou 2 all came out well after the PS3 was released.

  • Isaac Newton

Holy Crap!? They’re going to show Tanaka on the big screen!
Tanaka for the main character spot!

    • 하세요

      Here with his newest product!

      • CptPokerface

This. way too well together. Like it was meant to be..

      • Kaetsu

        This is amazing!

      • Sacchan

        I’m crying.

      • awat

  • Azzrem

i clicked refresh on siliconera main page every 2minutes for like 4hours just to see this…

  • RichyGaming

    ….A live action movie!

    • Randgriz

      you could be right…

    • Detrimont

      i said that yesterday………

      • Shane Guidaboni

        Do you want a cookie?

    • Rohan Viajar

Despite my extreme want for a game, I can’t stop holding the nagging feeling of “BIG REVEAL…… LIVE MUSIC CONCERT!”

      I would be sad.

  • Bruce Dickinson

Shadows are going to come out of these TVs…
    No? Ok ;-;

  • Dark Zerato

There’ll be an uproar if all these teasers are not about P5.

    • malek86

There will also be an uproar if it’s indeed Persona 5 but still uses the same characters as P4.

      • Herok♞

I would be apart of the uproar, each number has its own cast and story, and they would ruin it big time if they made P5 Persona 4-2, it would be if Final Fantasy 14 had been Final Fantasy 13-2 it doesn’t work well since every number is standalone.

        • Lynx

-Each number has its own cast and story

Persona 1 and 2 (both chapters) would like to disagree. 2 adds onto the story that first appeared in 1 and even carries Yukino as a playable character.

          • LightZero

I do agree P1 and P2 are very much interconnected. However, the P1 cast didn’t hog the spotlight. Instead it was the new characters while the P1 cast were in supporting or cameo roles.

          • DragKudo

            You are so wrong.
P1: Demons begin appearing in the city. High school gets frozen by the snow queen. Kandori gains unknown power to become a god.

P2: Rumors are becoming a reality, A mysterious person named joker is killing people.
P2: Rumors are becoming a reality. A mysterious person named joker is killing people, this feels familiar.

Yes the old cast showed up but guess what the game wasn’t about them. It still had its own story and did not rely on the past p-users. We just got small references to the P1MC, snow queen, nyralathothep.

          • Lynx

You realize P2 couldn’t have happened if not for P1? And the fact that they are irrevocably tied together?

Please read the post I was responding to.

No Persona game has had an entirely fresh cast, aside from the first game.

-We just got small references to the P1MC, snow queen, nyralathothep.

Considering you-know-who was behind the events of P2 as well as having a relatively fair size role in P1…..

          • DragKudo

Nyralathothep is the series main antagonist and no one really knew that he played a big role until p2 came out.

None of the games could have happened if it wasn’t
for p1 and tamaki showed up in p1.

They are all different stories but the overall plot is the same.
p3 had no p2 characters they weren’t even mentioned (Actually they were forgot about the tv)

The closest we got to any connection to p1 was the nanjo family and nyx.
That is what we want small reference.

          • ShindoW

Speaking of, has it been so long no one remembers the end of P4: Arena? It’s almost confirmed that whatever games are next will have Nyra. I’m really hoping for P5 but with references to the last games, just like the series has been. Perhaps it could take place in where Yuu lived before, but with a different protagonist.

          • Herok♞

What I mean by that is yes P1 characters played apart in the story but if you never played P1 you would not be lost when it came to P2 since they are still contained within their own exclusive worlds.

      • Kaetsu

If they use the P4/3 cast I’m completely fine with that as long as they don’t call Persona 5 when it should just be Persona 4 Volume 2(or something like that). Each game should have a whole new set of characters and then maybe have a few cameos.

    • Naux

There will be an uproar whatsoever. In a good or bad way. :D

  • For those who don’t get it….

    DAY ONE: Locations and Cities
DAY TWO: Train stations in the locations from day ONE
DAY THREE: PUBLIC Mega Screens in the locations from the past two Days that will be airing the announcements LIVE in Japan tomorrow at 8pm JST.

    You’re welcome.

  • Jason

I can guess from that, it might take place in a urban area versus the rural area which P4 took place. Other than that I dunno

    • This is merely showing the location of a public reveal in actual cities in Japan, Sunday Night at 8pm JST.

      • Jason

        Whoops :(

  • Lutfi Ardiansyah

Erebus gonna come from the sea of souls through that big shit TV yo, collaboration between P4 protagonist and P3 Protagonist, is gonna be epic lol

    • Ric Vazquez

That would be a an awesome sequel!

  • greeeed

    persona 4 live action

  • Heropon

    =)) Persona for molbie/IOS

    • ペート

    • Kami nii

That would ruin the entire franchise if that happened, Why change systems if it ain’t broke?

      • SaveTheDay

Maybe because Sega bought the company ?

        • Kami nii

I’m not sure that Sega would do that to a successful franchise but then again we never know its SEGA after all, I still hope they won’t ruin Atlus its a good developer of games.

        • Kaetsu

Atlus has been working on the next Persona for years now! There going to take all that they have and then make a lame down-graded iOS version just because Sega bought them a month or two ago.

          • SaveTheDay

Hey, don’t make me wrong guys. I don’t wanna Persona on iOS / android…I’m just saying that nowadays, bearing upon the context and the money involved in mobage, it wouldn’t surprised me that many IP (Persona included) come to this support

    • Lynx

      Has a CERO rating.

      Ain’t happening.

    • colorblindnightmare

      Get out.

  • ペート

If this is hype, it’s kind of dumb sort of hype. OOooo locations that probably litterally mean nothing outside of a Japan-only event of some sort. They announced Persona 5 in 2011, so maybe this is the ripe time for it, but I strongly feel as though there would be more of an announcment than this…

    • You realize that the stream on NicoNico will have the reveal as well, right? These teases are just so Japanese residents can go see teh announcements live as well as online.

I see nothing wrong with giving their native fanbase another means to watch the reveal as it happens…and with people who are just as excited as them.

      It’s actually brilliant marketing.

      • ペート

Your opinion is not conclusive yet, so all there is is to see what happens. I do understand what you’re getting at though. Pretty solid chance that is what the teases are directed at.
You know, I didn’t know why it didn’t occured to me that they would do this, but they put the viewing on nico nico for premium only. I was so sad..

        • I didn’t notice premium only, since I currently am a premium member; have been since the Tales of Xillia 2 reveal for Japan last year.

Still, there is a lot of evidence towards it, and with Hashino’s comment being about “A day when everything will be revealed.” and “Something to please all the fans”.

It’s pretty obvious at this point that all of this is just teasing a big online and public reveal…. =/

          • Nanaki

You can bypass the premium advertising screen. It took me a few instances of logging in and out but all it takes is a regular account to view it.

  • Rake

    >Day of the reveal.
    >Tanaka’s Amazing Commodities commercial airs.

    …Just imagine.

  • Randgriz

  • Arrngrim

I keep laughing so hard at the nerd-rage about “Persona 5” and “Persona 4-2”. Guys, if you were truly fans of Persona and played through both P3, P4, and P4:UMA. You would KNOW what is coming, and you should be happy and damn grateful. The idea of “grown-up” chars from P3 matching up with chars from P4…to solve the mystery that P4:UMA hinted at. I’m just…seriously floored by all the nerd rage over something so simple as, “OMG I R WANT KNEW PERSONA!1!1!!” Seriously, deal with it. We’re gonna get a continuation of P3+P4 and if they call it Persona 5, who cares. If they call it P4-2, who cares. I’M pretty damn eager to play any game with the name “Persona” in it. Down-vote away…

    • ChiffonCake

      >if you were truly fans of Persona
      Really now?

      • Arrngrim

Isolating a portion of my sentence. What was your point? My statement was that anyone who is really a fan should have at least played P3, P4 and P4:UMA. Is that incorrect?

        • Pekola

          Yes it is.

You assume that everyone who has a passion and interest for the series must play a specific set of games to somehow be ranked amongst ‘true fans’

The series spans around 4 main games and their iterations + whatever side games that were released. You can’t possibly place arbitrary standards on how a person is a fan due to having played particular games in the series.

          • Arrngrim

Of course, because in the end, only my opinion matters. This is how life is. And my arbitrary standards define what I decide they define. This is also the nature of humans. No, I’m not trying to be cute because deep inside everyone, this is how we truly are.

          • DragKudo

            Guess that explains your comments.

          • Arrngrim

Hmm? No, not really. I just know that all of humanity is vile, including myself. Everyone grasps and claws for (the truth, lol!) their own sake. So there’s really very little value in what anything, anyone else thinks besides myself.

          • DragKudo

        • LightZero

A true Persona fan would had played P1, IS, EP, P3, P4, and P4A according to your logic. Ultimately a fan is a fan. Not all fans want P4-2. Just not all are against P4-2. Everyone is different.

          • Arrngrim

“A true Persona fan would had played P1, IS, EP, P3, P4, and P4A according to your logic.” – I’m curious to learn how you know what my logic is as reading my paragraph I am unable to glean how you came to this logical conclusion.

However, I admit so far that you have the most sound response to my “outburst of fandom” following the first sentence. Especially you’re last statement. Well played, sir.

        • ChiffonCake

Yes, that’s incorrect, but that’s besides the point.

The thing is, you also pretty much said that if we’re “truly fans of Persona”, we should be “happy and damn grateful” for whatever Atlus puts out. Annnnddddd no.

When I like something, I expect more from it, not less. And you know, I’m ok with them milking P3 and P4, after all that’s their most successful games so far, but after a certain point, it becomes too much.

I want the series to move forward, towards the future, not stay stuck in its past glories, but apparently that makes me not a “true fan”.

    • M’iau M’iaut

This can certainly be done without the nerd rage and my thoughts are more correct than yours add-ons. I see far more folks having fun with the situation here than anything else. Just leave the gasoline off the fire, please. Thanks.

      • Arrngrim

Edit – Yeah, looks like a lot of fuel did get added even after your request. To the mods, I do apologize for my multiple cans of petrol that sit behind me. Feel free to yank all of this as I couldn’t really care less anymore.

My apathy towards other humans is quite profound really, and probably all my responses are from my sworn duty to educate anyone who thinks differently than I do.

My point in all of that was merely that everyone needs to calm down and be happy we’re going to see another Persona game, in any form.

        • JustThisOne

It was a good point, but I’m afraid it lost within some of your outrage.

To be honest, it wasn’t even that “outrageous”, but I suppose a fanbase for a game on the verge of a possibly major announcement gets everyone riled up pretty quick.

EDIT: Oh, and the true fan thing. For some reason, I didn’t even really notice that, until I read some of these other comments. :V

I thought you just meant “a fan” and also “someone who happens to understand foreshadowing in these two games”.

    • Ciel

Please take me under your wing and teach me how to be a true fan senpai!

      • Arrngrim

Denied. You are not worthy enough.

    • Blesmi

P3+ friend pls go, P1/2IS/EP were all better than P3 and P4 (not that P3 and P4 were bad, they were great). What you just said is on par with “it isn’t a true persona game without s-links.” Which is a very silly statement that I have heard many a P3+ friend say.

      • Arrngrim

See, this is a great example that you do not know me. I have played every Persona game ever made, including the fan translated P2:IS (before it was ported to PSP). I’ve purchased multiple copies of all titles to show my affection to Atlus for what they’ve done for us.

I whole-heartedly disagree with your statement that the original 3 on PS1 were better than the later titles on PS2/Vita. For over a decade of my life, I considered an out-dated game such as Valkyrie Profile to be the best ever made. I have finally acknowledged that Persona 4: Golden is probably one of the best rpg’s ever made, and I thoroughly look forward to what Atlus brings us next.

As for the words you attempted to put in my mouth, I would never say something so silly.

In closing, your attempt to label me a “P3+ friend” is even more laughable than my attempts to state that only a “true fan” would have at least played P3, P4 and P4:UMA.

      • M’iau M’iaut

And I will ask the same of you, asked of the original poster. Let’s not decide what type of fan is better than the next. Thanks.

        • Blesmi

Never specified which fan was better (because they’re both really same same group of megaten fan) :P

          • M’iau M’iaut

But here we don’t go out of our way to classify groups of fans. Folks like what they like and it is not another’s business to judge upon that. I appreciate the talk, but that is where we are coming from.

    • Gyro Zeppeli

      “We’re gonna get a continuation of P3+P4”
We’re getting a sequel to Arena, isn’t that enough to continue that story?

  • Just relax, minna!
Turn on “living with determination” from P3 OST and wait for announcement.

  • TheAnswerisback

I’m telling you guys, I’m telling you it will be Persona 4 arena for Ps vita

    • sharpshot909

Look up “Persona 4 Vol. 2”. It may be that. (I can’t link articles, sorry)

  • harmonyworld

It’d be neat to have female and male MC choices
also to be able to date girls as a girl, but perhaps that’s asking too much

    • TheRealMalek

And guys as guy ? i’m not gay but if they tolerate for a side they should tolerate the other side.

      • harmonyworld

      • Hound

Historically, this has been tolerated. It’s a bit phobic in P4, and more about self identity.. However, it was an ordinary side venture in P2 Innocent Sin. (Though that was enough years ago that I doubt it has much creative influence.)

  • Lee Chueng

    Guys it’s persona 5
The uploader of this video found this.
They do kind of look like Makoto(M) and Makoto(F) But what looks like the girl’s hair is orange. Lighter color than Maokto(F)

  • James Darkly

    TANAKA for the main character!

  • The 15ᵗʰ Angel

Yukina vision I like the sound of that!

    No Kuwabara its YUNIKA Vision.

    • Warboss Aohd

      Yu Yu Hakusho reference

      Automatic win.

  • Mirai

Weather its a brand new Persona 5 or a sequel to persona 4 i’ll be happy. Both would be awesome.

  • Zak Ledward

I’m going for the idea that it’s a continuum of P4 with Yuu Narukami (MC) as the MC but he goes to another city/town and meets the next cast, sticking in cameos/late-game-join for the original P4 cast.

    • Kudan

That seems fine to me, the MC is mostly a blanc slate so it doesn’t matter who it is other than seeing a new design.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

I wish people would quit it with that persona 4.2 stuff since that rumor only came from a english voice actor. People really believed they would have finalized voice actors in america by now? When it’s hasn’t even been announced yet?

    • Go2hell66

alot of the stuff shown in teasers and the stream point towards the announcement having something to do with p4. p4 characters were shown, tv’s, midnight channel etc. etc.

its not entirely impossible the game is p4-2

      • Kumiko Akimoto

No a lot of the stuff in the trailer points towards them favoring 3 and 4 characters ,they did use 3 characters in the countdown.

Posted it on reddit and people are going crazy.

  • Impressionnant

No Persona IV-2 or after years, please.

  • Rabbit

    My hope:
    1. New Player Character
    2. New original cast
    3. Introduce the old casts during the later half of the game
Only problem with that is that old player characters would become NPCs and undoubtedly take on their own personality which very well could conflict with how the players made their characters out to be. You wouldn’t want Yu to be flirting with a different girl than the one you picked, now would you? Maybe a system like what Bioware is doing with DA:I might fix that, but who knows… Just my hopes and dreams for P5.
(And hopefully it takes place after The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold, though it probably will as I assume it’s a direct sequel to Arena.)

    • Warboss Aohd

not NEW player character………Player CREATED protagonist.

      • Rabbit

        Haha, even better!

        • Warboss Aohd

i mean why not, the protagonist of Persona 3 and 4 could have had any appearance and it wouldn’t have changed anything but the Anime Cutscenes.

I might not care for Persona 4 anymore. But I love this style of teaser that’s exactly like how victims are revealed in Midnight Channel.

  • transferstudentx

me and a couple of my friends are skipping college today for this what a darn good exeuse right lol no time for college its per-so-na time baby

  • Rogerrmark

Despite Teddie, maybe its not P4-2?Remember that the story continues from P4 to Arena, and from Arena to the Ultimate version, with Stupei and Yukari, and it’s exclusive for Arcades. In Japan.

It would be necessary to play them all to understand the story(or read somewhere, whatever)

Atlus is aware Persona is getting more and more popular overworld,so I doubt they would let everyone else not living there get messed up with the story by making a direct sequel to the second P4 Arena.

Its not even available on consoles yet,nor available worldwide. And it doesn’t feel like Atlus. They usually don’t do this kind of sequel(that needs to play 4 games,2 being spin-offs,to understand the story of a main Persona game)

    Maybe it’s really 5…

    Just cant wait!

    • Mr_SP

Considering it looks to be a completely different setting… At the very least, it doesn’t look like Inaba, or even Port Tatsumi Island.

So, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic… especially considering the chances of “Teaser now! English release in 18 months!”.

  • Vayu Purana

    i hope it’s P5…….please :3

  • NimbusStev

Is anyone else having trouble watching the livestream? It just takes me to a screen advertising a premium membership, which I very much doubt everyone watching the stream has…

    • Mr_SP

I got the same result. No idea how to do anything about it.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Anything persona related will be grand; I’ve no idea why people are scared of a P4-2 or whatever. When has Atlus disappointed with their games? This isn’t a Square-Enix situation where they milk a franchise for the sake of money. P4: Arena had an amazing plot. So, again, why are people acting like whatever they have in store could have the potential for sucking when their track record is flawless~?

Well since 2008 there has been Persona 4, a remake on Vita, 2 arcade fighters, and an anime series. I’m not surprised that people are getting a little bit tired of the game. Even if it is P4-2, as long as it’s a full blown console RPG, with graphics and storytelling on par with Catherine, I’ll be happy. But I’d prefer to see some fresh new faces.

persona 4 arena’s plot being amazing is very subjective, i for one was not very impressed and was mainly only interested in the p3 characters, and even the add-on events for p4 golden felt lacking, especially the character interactions. the p4 anime also had really inconsistent animation. so im not surprised if people are getting tired of atlus constantly needing to bring up p4 again and again
