By Ishaan . November 24, 2013 . 4:15am

Persona 4: Dancing All Night, announced today for the PlayStation Vita, is a rhythm game with a story that takes place after Persona 4.

The game is being developed in collaboration with Dingo, the developers of the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva rhythm games on the PSP, and you can watch a trailer for it above.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night is slated for release in Japan in fall 2014.

  • Keytotruth

It’s the last thing I would expect them doing with P4… I don’t know iof the existence of this game is something good or bad. xD

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

    Those are some sick moves!

  • donkeybutt

I don’t know how they thought of this, but I want it.

  • LazuliteLiamz

kinda expect this ever since sega bought atlus xD
I like rhythm game, I’ll definitely get this, not to mention Rise is dancing in it! _<

  • ShinoZero

I have high expectations on this game’s soundtrack (please, give us some P4 AND P3 remixes)

    • epndkempot

P1 & P2 remixes also could be good.

      • ShinoZero

Almost forgot those but yeah, agreed.

  • Strain42

I have so many questions right now. The story takes place post P4, is it canon like Arena? (also I assume it’s post Arena)

We finally get to see the infamous Kanami? That’s really cool. I’m going to assume she’s not a Persona user though…which raises the question will we even see any Persona in this game? I’d love to play as dancing Izanagi!

Also Kanji is confirmed for the list of playable characters? Count me in. Dancing Kanji = Instant Buy, end of discussion.

And speaking of that list, I confess I find it a bit odd they still refer to him as “Hero” rather than Yu like the other Persona games where he’s a character rather than a silent protagonist.

Which now makes me wonder, is he still called Yu in Persona Q? Does that mean the P3MC is also now canonically called Makoto?

Man, my mind is about to burst. Maybe I should get some sleep.

  • Neppygear

They finally did it. They Project Diva’d Persona. This is something I’ve been delusionally hoping for ever since Sega bought out Atlus… and it’s happening.

    brb crying forever

    • The Persona 4 soundtrack is rather fitting for a rhythm game; lots of really catchy tracks. I hope the game turns out well, and I hope it gets localized too!

    • Arrngrim

Aren’t we getting the Neppy Project Diva also? :3 I mean, it’s already out in JP right?

      • jujubee88

Yup. I hope ATLUS USA/SEGA follow after PD and Nep to localize. YES PLS!

      • ShadowDivz

        Its actually an idolmaster game.

    • jujubee88

      edit: see image

    • Servant BerserCAR

And I thought I’d see everything… until I see Narukami Yuu is dancing…

      brb crying forever too

  • Kayseur

I need some P3 in this, a dancing Mitsurugi. And Akihiko x Yu.
Either way, I’ll definitly buy this. I admit I would’ve rather gotten Persona Q or a new RPG Persona game for the Vita, but that’s still awesome.

  • epndkempot

I wish they remember there are other persona characters who love to dance. Muh Ginko.

    • Strain42

Elizabeth loves to dance too. Remember her grooving outside of Escapade?

      • Anime10121

Lol, I JUST recently got to that part in the game a few hours ago XD (my first time playing the game to completion)

      • epndkempot

Yes, she with all-blue uniform is better than the brotagonist.

    • Cheesy04

      Don’t forget Mark :D

      • Strain42

        He danced crazy!

  • Shippoyasha

The amount of salt people were expressing about it on Twitch, 4chan’s /v/ and Neogaf was HILARIOUS. Most sites out there have expressed some form of outrage or another.

But calming down for one second, this is truly megaton as far as I’m concerned. The wonderful music of Persona, the STYLISHNESS of Persona, Rise in her own element as an idol, sexy boys and girls and Hatsune Miku game caliber dancing physics.

To me, this is a MUST have. Not just some silly, awkward curiosity and the ‘ATLUS KILLER’ the salty people have been screaming about.

    • jujubee88

The soundtrack of the Persona series (specifically 3 and 4) are legendry status to me. So this is looking to shape up to be a great addition to my library right beside Technika and Pprject DIVA-f next year.

Also, the sound quality of VITA is better than any iOS product, so music games are more than welcomed. ^^

      • MyBodyIsReady

        I recognise you from N4G!

Glad to see I’m not the only person excited for this game, the reaction on N4G was pretty negative…

    • DeadLineDance

100% agree to all. This person is right, folks.
And they announced P5 anyway, so chill out.

    • Servant BerserCAR

Seriously, if you truly love the music of Persona, this game is a must have.

btw, welcome to the world of Persona, Kanamin!

This is for you っ◔◡◔)っ ♥

  • Amagidyne

This was the second to last thing I expected…that last thing was HOW MUCH I REALISE I WANT THIS.

This is gonna be a super funky game, I just know it.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

So you’re the Engrish announcer then? SUPER KAWAII DESYO

      • Amagidyne

        DON’T MISS IT, BABY.

    • DeadLineDance

I totally agree. Also love your username. Never could decide if Yukiko or Rise was best girl…

      • Demeanor

The eternal dilemma XD Yukiko definitely has charm, with her Yamato Nadeshiko beauty, good manners, inner strength and very good figure, yet she’s also kind of cold, “boring”, too conservative and with that horrible laughing fits.
My vote goes to Rise: she’s a bit skinny but really cute, and the best thing imho is that she’s always lively and smiling, also playful and engaging, plus she destroys any public competition due to her idol skills and popularity. You just can’t beat Rise. XD

        • X_Bacon

          >horrible laughing fits

Shut up. It’s an endearing character trait.

  • Strain42

I dunno how the Project Diva games work, but if we get to choose our dancer, I think I’ll spend most of my time dancing as Kanami. I have a fondness for new characters (I use Labrys in Arena, probably gonna use Sho in Arena 2, and I’m already trying to find info on Crossbow Chap and Corndog Chick from Persona Q)

    • DyLaN

To put it simply, you choose a song and input the correct sequence.

    • Arcana Wiz

you can chose the character in Project diva, but every song has it’s own movements, and the “official” characacter. So if you chose a male, they will dance like a girl in a girl song XD

  • Wiccan1109

Probably one of the cutest things ive ever seen. I’m really not even a fan of these kind of games but urgh, Rise and Yu dancing like that, can’t resist.

  • Phoenixian Sama

I couldn’t have predicted this in a million years! It looks nice though. Now question is, Import the game (Unless its region locked) or wait for a UK release that… probably won’t come until the PSP4 remake version in 2025.

Who am I kidding? I’m so importing this.

  • Masa

    *Throws up a little*

    • Strain42

Yes! Vomit with joy, my friend! Today is a new era for dance time party fun!

  • MasterScrub

Hatsune Rise Project Persona GOTY 2012

but in all seriousness I love Project Diva and it’s made by the same people so why not.

  • Azzrem

Shit! this will be my first rythm game..

    don’t tell my girlfriend..

  • Damn, that engrish!

    • jujubee88

This should make DJMAX players feel right at home! Aha!

  • kinda strange genre for P4 but i can see this game will be FABULOUS!

  • Rake

Even though I’m not a fan of rhythm games, I’m not mad at all. We got P5, Adachi in P4AU, and P3-P4 game. If this game has all the awesome dance-able tracks from all the Persona games in the series, I’m for sure getting this game~

    • Strain42

That’s how I feel too, my new best friend. I know there was some rage and confusion at first, but I think right now we can all agree that there’s something for just about everyone right now, and this should keep Persona fans happy for a good long while :)

      • Rake

Atlus did something not much companies do, please tons of fans with different taste and desires~ But boy.. it’s gonna be a long wait till these games come out in America…

        And yay new friend <3

        • Strain42

Yeah, I mean I figure we’ll get lucky with Arena 2 and get it around the same time like most fighting games (sorry Europe…maybe they won’t region lock it this time?) and I have a hunch P5 will have a very quick localization, if not a near worldwide release. As for Persona Q and Dancing All Night…no clue, but I’m sure we’ll have other stuff to tide us over.

          • Rake

            Atlus will end up bringing all these titles over to America, I’m sure of it~ Only thing is the P3 Movie.. I still have my fingers crossed for a American release! ; – ;

          • Strain42

Oh yeah, I have no doubt they’ll all be localized, I just mean whether or not it’ll be done quickly or not.

          • Rake

Considering how well Persona games sell in America, I think Atlus will do their best to get the games as soon as possible after they release the Japanese version~

          • Kaetsu

Atlus is usually quick with their localizing. We’ll most likely see Arena 2 in 2014 and if Q is coming out in June/July in Japan we might get it for fall or winter.

    • Kaetsu

Atlus literally accommodated everyone. We got a P3-4 rpg but still got 5 and then we get the next arena along with this amazing rhythm game!

      • Landale

Not everyone. Still need an FPS Persona, a Tactical RPG Persona, and Action RPG Persona at the very least. Pretty sure they could manage a few more genres while they’re at it.

        • Kaetsu

Actually a Tactical RPG would be awesome!

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Devil Survivor 2 Break Record comes out in 2014^

          • Kaetsu

The DeSu games are fun but it would be cool to have Persona characters in a TRPG. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to afford DeSu2BR with games like Bravely Default, Conception 2 and some of these Persona games might come to NA in 2014.

        • Warboss Aohd

Tactical and Action RPGs would be pretty great.

Devil Survivor woz da former and Raidou Kuzonoha was pretty much da latter.

i can easily see it work wit’ Persona. just take away demon recruitment an’ make Personas a equip (and if it is based on the Persona 1 and 2 world, everyone could switch out personas)

Actions RPGs………well, just make it a Action RPGs with Personas and Squad Mates.

……..a FPS could in theory work if it had a reliance and personas (All the Persona users in your party carried guns in 1, at least 1 Persona user in both Persona 2 games did as their main weapon, Aigis and what’s his name in 3, and Naoto in 4.), and was more like the old FPS (Doom, Shadow Warriors, etc) in third person and a squad.

but i don’t see anyone bein’ able ta do a Persona FPS dat isn’t Naughty Dog or 343 Studios (or whoever did the 2013 Shadow Warrior)

          • Kitestwinblades

*Suddenly realizes that persona could indeed invade every genre except maybe racing* … r.r; Nah, racing isn’t even an exception. Its nice to know that they don’t have closed minds about trying out so many genres with the series.

You might be on to something there! Heck make the cast from P3 into something like Type-0 with Dirge of Cerberus shooting and you have a copy sold right there xD

        • I want Persona 3/4 RPG Golf.

        • LaserVision

How bout a dating sim Persona? That’d be ridiculous. Oh wait…

  • Can anyone imagine Dojima’s an unlockable dancer in this game?

    • Strain42

That would be absolutely amazing…unlikely, but amazing.

But in all seriousness I wouldn’t be surprised if Nanako was a dancer.

      • Cuteness overload~!

      • Servant BerserCAR

That would be dangerous. Imagine a mass case of massive blood loss from nosebleed. ( ̄Д ̄)

    • Don’t forget to reserve a spot for ADACHI on the dance floor, too!

      • So… Who wants to dance to the tune of… Murder?

        • Dance of the cabbages perhaps?

        • Servant BerserCAR

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

Oh I think he will do fine…

      • Tenabrus

I want an Adachi and Dojima tag team dance.

You’ve stuck your hand in the burning oil Atlus, now go all the way.

    • Dinoegg96

      What about Igor???

  • Unlimax

I think the dance moves needs more focus , looks kinda clunky , I Wish i could play a Persona Dance game mixed with Mstar Online dance moves :)

  • SupaPhly

  • Zeonsilt

    Instant pre-order,when available.

  • DesmaX

This looks like a completely stupid idea, I love it

  • Kaetsu

  • Kami nii

DJ max version Persona Style!! make so Atlus!! :)

  • Brimfyre

Finally Rise gets to be in the spotlight and finally playable.

  • Now I HAVE to get a Vita!!!11!

    • jujubee88

Black friday in just a few days. ;)

..Or go to cowboom. They have used/refurbished VITA’s for around 100 bucks each.

      • I’m trying to hold off until Black Friday.100 bucks!? I have never heard of this cowboom (o.o ) I must check it out! Thank you!

        • jujubee88

Welcome! ^^ Cowboom is the cheapest place for used VITA’s (second only to Amazon warehouse).

You could wait until blackfriday or cybermonday and see the deals on new VITA/bundle, you know, if you don’t mind waiting.

          • Aah! Bundles! I nearly forgot about that. Hmm Maybe I’ll wait to see what they have in terms of bundles and go with that instead. There might even be a bundle for this (o_ o! )

  • I’ll play it! :P

  • No yukiko and Naoto….FAILED

    • Landale

I’m sure they’ll be there. They just didn’t show it off to avoid fatal overdoses of joy. Adachi, Persona 5, and dancing Naoto? No one would be left to buy the games.

      • Kaetsu

And don’t forget about Minato coming back

    • Kami nii

Relax this is just the 1st trailer and it also indicated that there are more characters,

  • Folk Hellfang

This looks pretty great, an Idol game I would actually want to play. I’m pretty crazy for Persona right now, and I want more of the world. This and Persona Q fit that bill perfectly: a little more of the characters I fell in love with, while I steel myself for the new crew of 5.

  • Aristides

Glorious! Now I just hope Atlus doesn’t get stingy with the localization just because it’s a niche Vita game.

  • AndyFe

Sounds and looks like a game I want to play

  • shuratan

A game all about persona music? I can get behind that 200%!

  • AuraGuyChris

Well, Rise became another Hatsune Miku fan.

    Damn you, Sega! (Just kidding).

    • Landale

Would not be too surprised if they get Vocaloid themed outfits.

  • PersonaBull

Can’t wait to burn up the dance floor to Burn My Dread<3

    • Kami nii

^This I will be burning the dance floor with nanako as my character!! Swag!

  • Mirai

So if this takes place after Persona 4 that means will this game’s story be canon unlike the 3DS game? Also this trailer kinda implys that Yu ends up with Rise.

    • Landale

It implies he ends up with Rise why?

      • Mirai

Its just my gut intuition I had when watching the trailer plus if this is a spin-off it doesn’t matter anyway. I was jumping the gun with that implication.

    • Lynx

      Dont think its canon.

P4A was explicitly said to be canon, after all.

      • Landale

The fact that they seem to be dropping his name suddenly kinda helps point to it not being canon.

      • Mirai

You’re prob right, would be a bit odd for this to be canon

  • Sapitntapit

“Can you imagine the step!? He’s genius!”

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

AR mode you can take pics with your Waifus.

Yu is one hell of a dancer

  • Smooosher than ever

I hope we get to dress up Yu…

..I-I mean *cough*, yeah, this looks awesome! Unexpected, but awesome! Really looking forward to this.

  • TrueDefault

    Smooth moves!

  • Istillduno

I was going to be mad, but then I realised that I’m in Europe, with Atlus and Sega’s (Not a sonic game) speed combined, I’ll be long dead before it even releases over here.

  • Ace Esper

Well if this isn’t canon, can we get FeMC? Pretty please?

  • Hinataharem

Get bent to your favorite dance tracks

  • KoRLumen

  • CometK

I was only moderately excited until “DANCING WITH: KANJI” came on the screen.
Now I have rededicated my life. The boy was born with dance in his heart.

  • Yay! =^_^=

  • Punny Fuzz

  • KuroNathan

Damnit Yu, we’ve seen you smile already in the anime and fighting game. HAVE AN EXPRESSION

    • He’s so swag that he cannot smile anymore?

  • Warboss Aohd
  • Always wanted to play one of these games. Hopes it gets localize.

  • Asukami

I’m sure it’s been stated multiple times, but… Yu looks fabulous.

  • ShadowDivz

I don’t know who came up with this idea. But he is a mother-smurfing genius.
I always wanted to see Rise in her element. And that costume of hers looks so awesome and sexy.

Since project diva PS3 and Vita got localized and we all know Persona is popular outside japan i see no reason for this NOT to get localized.

  • OMG dat effin voice

  • Gosh this looks a little ridiculous. I hope they don’t run the franchise into the ground with weird off-shoots. But I guess I mostly just like RPGs. Do like the music, though, simply by virtue of hearing it over and over while having so much fun with P4.

  • Ric Vazquez

Sorry if this sounds arrogant, but DUH, that was obvious at first sight.

  • doubleO7

I haven’t played much Project Diva, but I’ll definitely pick this up if it gets localized.

  • Scipio

I’ll get it. Hope it’s localized after Project Diva F did well in the west. Fitting how it was a Sega game.

  • Chim_era

Haha you know I didn’t see this coming :)
But I’m really happy they announced al these games, even this rythmic one.

And for all teh criticism out there. Be happy they do their own thing and don’t follow the fans suggestions to the point. Because be honest what do you want? A game that is original and flavored with the designers ideas or a game you orchestrated? I rather be surprised by how good a game is against expectations than know exactly what to expect ;)

  • cyberkinghardy

I’ll buy this in japanese. No need to wait for localization. This is just pressing buttons. I know they mentioned “with a story” but it looks like this is more focused on rhythm game. Same as Project Diva :3

  • Demeanor

Mmmm so let’s see… the idea is interesting, and original, I’ll give you that.
No worries about the music track since Meguro is a monster, but I’m worried about the dancing part, compared to Project Diva the animations seem totally out of sync with the music, and the face expressions seem kind of lifeless; it’s like it wasn’t really Yu and Rise, but dolls with the face of Yu and Rise.
I hope they can polish this to perfection otherwise it might hurt sales, no matter the series’s popularity (since the Persona fanbase is made up of more or less hardcore crowd, they tend to be well informed on games, so you can’t easily sell them an objectively bad game even tho linked to a famous brand).
And wow, I was able to see the “totally fake Kanamin” as well! XD My heart will always go to Rise-chi!!! XD

  • Ben Sylvia

    Dance off: Izanagi vs Izanami.

    We can have?

  • Kaetsu

“Unbelievable! Could you imagine the step! It’s Genius!”
Makes me laugh every time lol

    • Kaetsu

      Also “Don’t miss it baby”

  • moogle.nine

Manly tears….that’s all I can give right now. So happy that this (will) exists.

  • Engrish galore

  • Jason Ryer

this relates to the game i think.

  • SpaceOfSoul

This gets me hyped for the graphics we will see for persona 5 @[email protected]

  • Steven Higgins

“Herro, eburiwan!” Aww that Kuma Engrish.

  • xe7en

When’s Persona Cart???? Seriously would buy that…

  • s07195

This is all due to the P4: Golden opening movie, isn’t it?

  • Marik78

I hope there will be unlockables outfits, like in Project Diva.

  • aviaremake

another reason for me to buy PSVita…

  • Bacon_n_Lettuce

That is possibly the most random thing they could have announced, but, dammit, I need this! Also, I guess I’m not the only one that’s a huge fan of both Persona and Project Diva.

  • piichan

Had to watch it again to take in the awesomeness. Now how about some dancing Kanji and Dojima next.
