Xseed Passing On Final Corpse Party On PSP, Unchained Blades Exxiv

By Ishaan . November 29, 2013 . 11:01am

While Xseed are interested in localizing Corpse Party: Blood Drive on PS Vita, the final Corpse Party game on PSP, Sachiko’s Game of Love – Hysteric Birthday 2U, isn’t on their radar.

Unlike the other Corpse Party games, Sachiko’s Game of Love – Hysteric Birthday 2U is supposed to be a romantic comedy based on the original Corpse Party. In a reply to a fan enquiring about hopes of the game being localized, Xseed replied via Facebook: “No hope, at least in terms of not by us.”

Another game that Xseed will be passing on is Unchained Blades Exxiv. Released in 2012 for Nintendo 3DS and PSP, Exxiv is yet another first-person dungeon-crawler in FuRyu’s Unchained Blades series.

While Xseed initially said they would give some thought to Exxiv after releasing the original Unchained Blades on 3DS, it appears they won’t be licensing the game. On Facebook, an Xseed representative stated: “Afraid we have no plans to pursue Exxiv.”

  • Manny Being Manny

this is why NISA > Xseed. They’ll release spinoffs instead of not even entertaining the possibility.

    • DesmaX

Except they were one of the first to give up on the PSP

      • And the quality control isn’t always there. Time and Eternity and several others are not helping anything.

      • Ash_Riot

Black Rock Shooter & Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection both say hi.

      • Ladius

That isn’t really true, NISA released both Black Rock Shooter and Generation of Chaos Pandora’s Reflection in 2013. Of course we all wished they localized more PSP games (especially NIS’ own titles), but that goes for every publisher out there given how many we’re still missing.

    • Arcana Wiz

…..what? when they localize NIS games on PSP we begin to talk… La pucelle Ragnarok, Makai kingdom…..

    • DyLaN

Both companies is a mixed bag though. NISA is not interested in VN for one thing.

  • Otaku-Sama
  • AlteisenX

Does anyone know what games are on XSEED’s radar right now? I only know of LoH SC.

    • GH56734

They also explicitely said they WON’T do:
      Akiba Trip 1
      Retro Game Challenge 3

      • mockturtle

        And Exstetra. :(

      • Michael Kelehan

They’ve said again and again that they can’t do RGC2, but where did they say they won’t do RGC3?

        • GH56734

It’s on Siliconera and their official twitter. It’s fairly recent.

    • Brandonmkii

Well Celceta and Senran Kagura came out recently, so maybe we’ll get some teasers about some new projects soon!

    • Arrngrim

Only game on my radar is Conception 2 by Atlus, gimme the babes!!! (~.~)/ Oh, and maybe HDN: PP by NISA.

  • Shady Shariest

Can understand, dungeon crawlers in general might be awkward to localize…

  • TheExile285

Not surprised about them not releasing that last PSP CP. Shame because I might have actually bought that one lol,

  • PoweredByHentai
    • Lilith

My God Rikka I forgot how cute you were.

    • Warboss Aohd

oooooooh, da Mad Wolvez orkz haven’t fought a Moe humie yet! OI LADZ! A NEW KIND O’ ENEMY!

  • JonathanisPrimus

    dat XSEED curse

  • I understand Xseed’s stance on Sachiko’s Birthday and applaude them for taking interest in a nische franchise such as Corpse Party in the first place. I guess I have no choice but to import or check a wikia or something to fill in the gaps.

Blood Drive will be a day one buy whenever they release it and I wish them success with their other acquisitions.

    • Shippoyasha

While disappointing, at least it isn’t a major canonical continuation. The game was more of a side story. Still hoping it may get translated someday if Corpse Party becomes more popular.

      • ninjapresident

Aksys has become more and more one of my favorite localizers, while XSEED keeps dropping. I mean, appreciate both their efforts, don’t get me wrong, but Aksys seems to go above standard efforts and go for physical releases on top of picking titles that are pretty niche.

        • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

          They’re both good guys.

        • deadMastershiro

Do you think Aksys will pick up unchained Blades exivv.

      • Daru Titor

I doubt it will be brought over here.
I wasn’t expecting a release of it to begin with.

  • Not surprised at all, Xseed needs to make money too. Hopefully the Vita Corpse Party will sell well for them.

    • Has it been confirmed that Xseed is working on the Vita Corpse Party game? I look forward to it, if that’s the case.

  • Kyosuke Yoshino

I think Corpse Party 2U was great, and that ending it had, eh:| it was a little depressing!
I can somewhat understand though that they don’t want to localize a Visual Novel, sadly there isn’t enough interest for them.

  • Dsvkb

As long as they do the Vita Corpse Party game, I can live with this.

  • landlock

I’m sad about Corpse Party but not surprised. :(

  • Machineguntommy

So long as they bring over Blood Drive and that new one that takes place in the Hospital that’s fine. I never really cared about the goofy chibi spinoff.

    • DyLaN

Just to clarify, its a mix bet chibi and regular art.

  • Zoozbuh

I loved the first Corpse Party and am currently playing ‘Book of Shadows’, but I can 100% understand why they wouldn’t want to localise this last PSP title.. It looks more like an ‘optional romantic spin-off’ rather than a legit entry in the series, so not like we’ll be losing THAT much. Plus the PSP is dying, so it’s quite impressive they’ve stayed supporting it for as long as they have!

    • Yeah, I think the main PSP market (other than pirates!) is Vita owners.

      • Arrngrim

You wouldn’t believe how much it still frustrates me that there are some PSP games that haven’t been put on the PSN, so I can play them on my PS Vita. Hello! UMD’s are easy to break and have always been a bad format… D: And yes, I’ve purchased digital versions of PSP games I already own so that I could play them on my Vita. And as soon as I get a PS Vita TV… *rubs hands together like super-villian*

        • Yeah, I’ve done the same, and I have a list of what I’ve yet to buy on the PSN. I’m sad about games that I’ve missed, like Brave Story, that were there and disappeared, and I’m annoyed about games that have never been on there, like Popolocrois and (speaking of Arrngrim) Valkrie Profile. Now if only everything would fit on my overpriced memory card!

    • CirnoTheStrongest

I loved that game to death…

It was really fun, and it’s a giant shame that they are skipping it :(

      • Zoozbuh

I get that some people might like it, but there are normal niche titles (like Corpse Party 1)… and then there are SUPER niche titles, which will only appeal to very few people. I’m surprised they actually gave Corpse Party a chance to begin with, so be happy about that :)

        • CirnoTheStrongest

Oh, I’m not at all mad at Xseed for this. I just thought your comment about “not losing much” was really unwarranted. I’m sad for certain that they passed up on it, but I can see why they did so.

    • Arrngrim

How on Earth could a Corpse Party game be an “optional romantic spin-off”? o.O I mean, I only played the first…but man that game was trippy and gory….

      …romance? o.O

      • Zoozbuh

Hah, I know right?! I can’t quite get my head around it either. Although the first 2 games did have that jokey, pervy feel to them (well, kinda), it wasn’t anywhere near “romance”…

  • Hours

I’m pretty disappointed that we won’t be getting the Unchained Blades sequel. I know they can’t do every niche game that comes along, but this certainly doesn’t help XSEED with their “series dropper” reputation. Stuff like this is what makes me wary to buy any new IPs they bring out, because they’ve dropped more than they’ve continued with.

    • Well if more people had bought Unchained Blades, they wouldn’t have had to drop it. :)

      • Kumiko Akimoto

But that doesn’t explain the reason why no fan service corpse party

        • I’d imagine it is probably the same explanation. :( I know I personally bought the first Corpse Party but not the second. I regret it now, of course…

I was a huge lover of the first Retro Game Challenge. I bought at least four copies. Xseed lost so much money on that game, though, that they would have been crazy to try again with the sequel, and now that the third is coming out, I don’t think they’ll want to touch that either. It is very sad, but we can’t expect them to invest money when they can’t make that money back.

    • Pyrotek85

Kinda agree, but at the same time you don’t throw good money after bad. If the first isn’t successful enough, they probably feel there is a high risk that they’ll only lose more money localizing future games in that series.

      • Hours

Oh, I totally understand that they have to look at it from a business prospective, but it seems like this happens a lot with XSEED. I’d rather they bring over fewer series if if means they’d stick with them for the long haul. I’m still upset about them dropping Retro Gaming Challenge and Wizardry. I love both those games a lot, and I really want to play the sequels.

At least we’re still getting Trails SC, which is what I want the most, but that wouldn’t of even happened if Capre Fulgur didn’t offer to help.

  • Michael Richardson

I’d rather see a more restrained interest in the series’ primary titles than for them to localize everything associated with it, lose money, and swear off the series as a whole. Xseed is a wonderful company that brings us games nobody else would dare touch, but even they can’t take too many risks if they want to remain a healthy, viable business.

  • z_merquise

Still, I commend XSeed for bringing Corpse Party games for non-Japanese people. That alone is already a huge risk.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Well, I didn’t check the romantic comedy game much (even though first Corpse Party is my favorite game on PSP) and I don’t know how to feel about that… but what about Dead Patient? How about some of that Xseed?

    • Kumiko Akimoto

They’d have to wait until it’s complete to do that.

      • Crimson_Cloud

Yeah I know, but I would still want at least some ” we are thinking of that” kind of input. ˇˇ’
        Wishful thinking from my part.

  • koga88

In a way I’m alright with this. It’s sad we don’t get the spin-off but its a lot different from a standard Corpse Party game and probably not necessary to enjoy the rest. Also even with the PS Vita being able to play PSP games, it’s pretty much done in the West now. Not too surprised about Exxiv either considering the delay the original 3DS version had. Wonder what they might prioritize now…

    • revenent hell

Just to clarify for those who don’t know a bout the Vita

The PS Vita can play digital versions of PSP games
if: The PSP game is listed as
      Vita Compatible

The PS Vita cant play ALL PsP games.

  • ZekeFreek

    I’m not too bummed.

  • Brotato Chip

Bring me Shinovi Versus and all is forgiven

    • Brimfyre

It has to be a sure thing at this point given SK sales so far. I’m sure this is why they can be so blunt about what they have no interest in bringing over.

      • Pyrotek85

And while it’s disappointing when they say no, at least they give a straight answer and don’t get people’s hopes up.

      • Brotato Chip

did they really say they have no interest for shinovi atm?

        • Brimfyre

No, sorry, I meant that Shinovi Versus has to be a sure thing to be brought over based on SK sales.

I was saying they can afford to say these two games aren’t coming over because they know as soon as they announce SV and other wanted titles this will all be forgotten.

  • ZnTxn

But Exxiv is better than the first Unchained Blades… oh god, why?!

    • JonathanisPrimus

Because presumably no one bought the first one.

  • CirnoTheStrongest
    • Warboss Aohd

wot da zog iz i lookin’ at?

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Both games are extremely niche. It’s risky enough for them to localize something as huge a TitS: SC. They don’t need extra risks for games people aren’t going to buy~.

  • Jesse

Kind of disappointed, but I assumed this is how things would go, anyway. They’re interested in Blood Drive, so I’m looking forward to that. ^^

  • Warboss Aohd

well, if any o’ us had any notionz it’d be a serious game……..there ya go.

  • coco_wolfie

I someday hope I could localize games myself, I would do all the work ._. sigh someday

  • Well as long as Blood Drive is coming.

  • Göran Isacson

Yeah, can’t say I’m that surprised. Like what everyone here’s already said: it’s not a necessary game for the overarching plot and would probably cost more than it would make. Sour grapes, but at least we’re not missing out on anything TOO important.

  • Tatsuya1221

i’m not surprised about exxiv honestly, and i blame it on the 3ds, or more precisely, nintendo’s handling of digital games on their systems(the psp i expected, as it’s simply not feasable in this day and age on most accounts).

I would gladly buy unchained blades rexx on the 3ds, if it were not for the fact of the insane lack of a account system on the 3ds, it’s the reason i have never bought anything off of the E-shop, because the day i have a console failure, there goes my games/DLC, and i’m sure i’m not alone in this.

It’s the reason i utterly refuse to buy anything off of the e-shop for the foreseeable future, and nintendo really needs to fix this if they want to compete with psn,or xbl, much less steam.

    • TheExile285

XSEED JUST localized Senran Kagura Burst as a DD only title on 3DS eShop. I doubt them not picking this up is because of the account situation. They also localized the PSP version of UC on PSN.

      • Tatsuya1221

The psp version of UC was on a dying if not dead system when it released, so that effected sales.

The simple fact of the matter and what i was trying to point out is, 3ds DD titles are hurt severely imo due to the severe restrictions nintendo puts on E-Shop games, which in turn hurts sales, which in turn hurts chances of localization of some types of games.

UC has a double whammy of problems, the psp’s install base was low by the time it came out, and the 3ds version is going to be hurt simply due to nintendo’s archaic policies, which hurts localization prospects as a whole on the E-shop as a viable option for some niche games..

    • TheAquacharger

My 3DS failed on me and Nintendo replaced all my 3DS account info, I just got a new FC was it. All my DLC and digital content was restored. They have records, just the system is currently tied to the account. Soon that’s supposed to change.

    • Hard to tell at the moment because much of the audience gotten free
credit to buy games, so sales of Senran Kagura and Ace Attorney are
      probably fine.

I do agree that they should fix the account system problem. I’ll buy cheap titles on eshop but not full retailer.
Actually I don’t like paying full retailer price for PSN either but I don’t mind it if I really want the game. Don’t feel that confident with eshop.

I don’t think the (lack) account system is the top culprit. Otherwise every game will have trouble with sales.
It is a problem when it and the audience preferring physical nonetheless.

  • fenix7

Shoot, Unchained Blades was the first dungeon game I got into, and wanted the sequel to come out for the PSP or VITA

  • Will John

I hope Fate Extra CCC will still come.
    (yes I am that guy)

    • DyLaN

Sry to be “tht guy”, but F/E is done by Aksys.

      • Will John

Let me tell you two useful pieces of information.
        1. I know
        2. PSP games being passed over is a blow for all PSP localizations in general

    • Arrngrim

I feel ya Will, I imported the special figure edition with Saber and it’s still sealed. I know like 3 words in Japanese, all of them dirty. So I’ve had my fingers crossed that we’d get this localized also.

      • Will John

Well good thing is, them saying nothing is still better them straight out saying they’re not gonna localize it. Like in this case.

  • DyLaN

    ;_; I understand their reasoning but still ;-;

So uh, where can I go hunt for the spoilers for both games?

  • Aristides

…No more Unchained Blades? Seriously? That game was fantastic… yet another series dropped by XSEED. Don’t get me wrong I love XSEED and I don’t like to complain after all their hard work, but damn their cut off rate is insane, any new IP they localize is more than likely not getting any of it’s sequels. It’s a miracle we’re even getting SC at this point, probably due to our nagging. It’s almost safe to assume that’s gonna be the end of Trails in the west… -_-

    • Ladius

That has more to do with people not buying those games andor high licensinglocalization costs than with XSEED itself, they would be happy to work on all those franchises if they were highly profitable for them.

    • Go2hell66

i’m still salty about Grand Knights History, i’m never gonna let that go

    • Vanadise

It all depends on how well they sell. Unchained Blades didn’t really sell particularly well, and the sequel kind of tanked in Japan.

FC sold fairly well over time, and they stated repeatedly that they were working on SC, even though fans kept getting upset and assuming it was canceled because there was no release date for it. I’m sure we’ll get more Trails as long as SC sells well enough to make it worth their time.

  • Croix Zapp

think it’s better for them to focus on vita and 3ds, and not psp

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I don’t mind. Hope we get Blood Drive though.

  • 4shiki

Disappointed to read XSEED reconfirm their stance on Sachiko’s Game of Love. :( I’ll buy it though because I’m really interested on playing it…someday…in the very distant future.

    Geez, how lazy I am…
