Here’s What Japanese Players Thought Of Ultra Street Fighter IV At A Recent Location Test

By Ishaan . December 2, 2013 . 9:00am

Last week, Capcom held the very first location test for Ultra Street Fighter IV in Japan, where they gathered feedback from players at the event, and documented it as they continue to tweak and rebalance the game.

Some of the feedback Capcom gathered was to do with the new characters being added to the game. Over on their Capcom Unity website, they’ve posted a breakdown of what location test players thought of the new fighters, ranging from “Terrible” to “Good”. You can take a look at the rankings at the Unity link.

“We’re still in the middle of balancing these characters, but comments like ‘Elena’s strong’ and ‘Hugo’s weak,’ and comparisons between Rolento’s current incarnation and his previous version are among the feedback we’ve got so far that really stands out,” Capcom revealed. “In particular we got a lot of opinions about Rolento’s slide.”

They add: “For Poison, we received a lot of requests to increase her movement speed; and we also got a lot of feedback about her appearance… Seems like there are a lot of hidden Poison fans out there! Haha.”

The most feedback, however, was with regard to Ultra Street Fighter IV’s new Ultra Combo Double system, which allows players to select both Ultras for their character—the catch being that each one does less damage.

“At the location tests, it seems there were a lot of players who took a liking to it,” Capcom say. “In particular, people who picked the new characters often chose the Ultra Combo Double option. However, there were many players who felt that the Ultra Combo Double option didn’t really suit their character, and boy did they let us know! We’ll be thinking of a way to address this before the final version is released.”

I propose paid DLC that allows for both ultras to do full damage.

    • CptPokerface

Lol, if they did that the FGC would burn Capcom to the ground in a heartbeat.

Zangief with a full powered ground and anti-air ultra would make him way overpowered.

Edit: not to mention that paying to have an advantage in a match is a huge no-no for any game aiming to be competitive.

      • Brion Valkerion

Zangief got nurfed to keep that kind of thing in check as of this test build. Seems like him and Hugo are considered the low tier now. T-Hawk seems better though. Least compared to those two.

Think the 2 ultra thing is nice, some characters desperately need it (Rose), others can get simply get a lot of mileage out of it (Boxer).

        • CptPokerface

Well testing is still on going so perhaps. Hugo, Rolento, Elena, and Poison aren’t yet fully implemented in the game so concerning them, tier status can still change.

I like the double ultra idea as well, just think its implementation needs to be considered very carefully.

I think everyone overreacted a bit with Gief he is still a good character in my opinion. As for Hugo Japan thinks he is a lot worse than America does, don’t get me wrong both parties agree he isn’t the best. All he needs is a few more tweaks and I think he’ll be better. His clap needs to get him in better, kind of like Gief’s green hands. Random thought ~ Ken might just be a little to good and Rolento might be top tier. But as the comment below said they are still testing the game out and nothing is final at the moment.

dude, she’s joking why all the thumbs downs

        • CptPokerface

Most likely downvote trolls, nothing worth mentioning.

  • Tyler Beale

So can someone now tell us who the 5th character is?

    • d19xx

Shinkiro’s artwork hints that it’s Retsu from the first Street Fighter.

      • colorblindnightmare

Really? Could’ve sworn they said it was a character that wasn’t in a fighting game before.

        • leingod

That’s what I’ve been reading everywhere too. A Capcom character that hasn’t been in a fighting game before.

          • Tyler Beale

They even said so at their EVO panel.

Actually, they can keep it a secret for a long as they want – it’s fun for me to speculate on what that 5th character is, even if he/she doesn’t fit quite well in the Street Fighter universe. Mega Man X, anyone? Chris? Viewtiful Joe?

          • MasterScrub

But they were all in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Well, X was a costume, but still.

          • Tyler Beale

            I wasn’t thinking of MvC3 when I posted that, lol….

And Zero’s DLC costume doesn’t count.

          • ShinobiBrown

I would rather it be a completely new character than a character who doesn’t fit. Having Mega Man, Chris, or Viewtiful Joe would be pretty dumb IMO. Even though I like the characters, they have nothing to do with the SF universe and it should be kept that way.

        • d19xx

This is the artwork I was referring to. I haven’t been following the news about SF4 that much, so no idea regarding the rest of the details or if this image is a fake.

          • colorblindnightmare

Oh god, please don’t look like that. some of the character models look terrible, that would be grotesque.

  • PreyMantis

And then they cancel the whole game and blame the fans.

    • DyLaN

      >_> this is not the place for thissort of thing….

    • d3v

Not a good idea since the FGC has a bigger sway on Capcom than Megaman fans.

      • Tyler Beale

And Capcom would be committing suicide if they did that.

  • videoman190

I still want Karin but I am thankful that Elena is in it! As long there is no GEMs in home version or add a similar feature to Pandora!

  • Michael Cortorreal

The new 5th characther is Ryu! From Breath of Fire xD
