By Ishaan . December 3, 2013 . 11:03am

Dragon’s Crown has shipped over 800,000 copies worldwide, Index Corporation announced this morning. The game was released on the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and the 800k figure includes both shipments to retailers as well as download copies sold.

Additionally, Dragon’s Crown has won both a “Gold Prize” and “User’s Choice Award” at the 2013 PlayStation Awards. In commemoration of the game’s achievements, Atlus will be selling it at a discount for a limited period of time in Japan.

From December 11th to January 8th, Dragon’s Crown will be available for 4,980 yen on the PlayStation Network (down from 6,980 yen).

It deserves it all. My personal GOTY no contest.

  • Yan Zhao

Congrats. Great game and really takes me back. We need more games like these.

  • leingod

Those numbers don’t sound very impressive… are they? Hope they are, I love both Atlus and Vanillaware

    • Brandonmkii

I’d put money on it being Vanilliaware’s best selling game.

    • Ryudo9

You been fooled by Call of Duty numbers. This game is vanillawares most expensive game. 1 million$ and that is a very tiny compared to most games today. so 800k for vanillaware both in numbers and profit. They pretty much just made out like gangbusters. They didn’t just make profit THEY RICH BIATCH!

    • Slayven19

Atlus games don’t even come close to those numbers on average even with persona games so take that as you will.

      • leingod

Guess that’s good then. I only want them both to continue making stuff.

  • Cody

    GotY 2013.

  • X_Bacon

    I bought two myself. ^-^

  • Ryudo9

YES! One of my fave games this year!. Glad to see old school gaming can still thrive.

  • mojack411

And I’ll be contributing to that number myself very soon once I get home to my new PS3 xD

  • Nas

Those are some good numbers considering that its a new IP.

Great work from Vanillaware, Atlus and NISA for bringing it to

  • CptPokerface

Happy to see that the gaming community at large really embraced this game for what it is: a tribute to old school side scrollers that we all spent countless quarters on.

  • fairysun

    Great game!!

  • Kornelious

This game rules! This proves a game doesn’t have to be ridiculously long to be tons of fun.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Well done Vanillaware and Atlus. You deserve it. And thank you NIS for localizing this for Europe.

  • z_merquise

So happy that Dragon’s Crown is getting a lot of recognition and good sales number too. It’s my “Game of the Year” this 2013.

I’m really looking forward on whatever game Vanillaware will do next right after their Muramasa DLCs.

Though I wonder if Dragon’s Crown would still receive the same recognition when it remained under Ignition.

  • NightzeroAX

One of the few games I wouldn’t mind getting paid dlc for it.

  • Ric Vazquez

An superb collaboration of Atlus and Vanillaware, I’m proud to be the owner of one of those 800.000 sold copies.

  • Herok♞

Good stuff and such a short short amount of time, my only question is did it sell better on Vita or PS3

  • RichyGaming

This really surprises me because I JUST BOUGHT THIS AND PERSONA 4 GOLDEN A FEW DAYS AGO! Oops, lets not forget about Tales of Xillia.

  • Jean Alcantara

The PS3 and Vita could use more Side-Scrolling Beat ’em Ups!

  • Audie Bakerson

    It’s all the lolicons fault!

Seriously though, I’m really glad the social justice nuts gave it loads of free advertising.

  • James Enk

from Vanillaware i only played Muramasa on the Wii, but i should get this as soon as my wallet allows it

  • Shippoyasha

Lovely game in gameplay, art, music, dungeon crawling mechanics. I am itching for Dragon’s Crown 2 sometime down the road. Surprisingly, it is definitely one of the best games of 2013 for me as well. Amazon as a character was so fiercely unique as well.

  • d19xx

Now give us Odin Sphere. :D

    • Sacchan

      so much yes.
odin sphere is one of my favorite game until now, and I’d love to see them remastered on newer consoles.

  • Ardus

Playing this is what made me aware of Vanillawares existence.I loved it so I went back to check out the other games they made. I don’t have a wii or vita so I can’t play muramasa, but I just finished Grimgrimoire
and I’m almost done with Odin Sphere and both of them are great I
recommend for anyone who missed them like myself to go back and give
    them a try

  • Are those copies to retailers shipped and sold? Because I’m a bit confused by that. If both, that’s pretty good! If just shipped, then what are the numbers sold I wonder?

    • Physical copies shipped and download copies sold, yeah.

  • hazelnut1112

Glad this game sold well. Bought my copy when it came out and got that sweet artbook.

  • Kamakuma

Got this for my buddy yesterday. x’3 It was his bday and his parents just got him his Vita so I wanted him to feel good. :’3

  • Gojira Twit

Always nice to see awesome games getting awesome treatment

  • buddyluv324

Well deserved! This is by far Vanillaware’s best title hands down. I bought my ps3 copy with the artbook! I’m 183+ hours and still going strong!

  • Lilith

I’m glad I bought this for my Vita. ♥

  • TheExile285

    Good for DC and Vanillaware.

Hasn’t been out long so in a years time it should break 1mil.

  • Romancer Ecclesia

    It’s like Diablo 3+Golden Axe+PLOT :D

  • Hector Velar

for them lucky bastages in Japan who still don’t have it, BUY IT! at that ridiculous low price you are getting every penny spent so many hours of enjoyment. Great game, I do hope to see some more expansions since they did so well, extra characters and stages will indeed be a treat.

  • LaserVision

Hate to sound nitpicky but I don’t see why this and the Persona 4 Golden story couldn’t have been combined into one post.

  • xxx128

My fav game in ages! I hope we will see a dragons crown 2!

  • FlyingPony

Its a great game, and deserve the top spot.

  • Göran Isacson

Heh, good on you Vanillaware! Dragon’s Crown is a top-notch RPG/beat-em-up, and one I heartilly recommend to everyone who isn’t bothered by the exaggarated characters. Throwing skeletons into other skeletons with my magma-blooded dwarf never ceases to please.

  • Abysswalker90

    Make a sequel please.

  • Guest

Really? Nobody’s said it yet? I guess I’ll do the honours…
    Filthy lucre!
