Castlevania And Muramasa-Inspired Platformer, AeternoBlade, Slated For January

By Ishaan . December 5, 2013 . 8:30am

Remember AeternoBlade, the Nintendo 3DS side-scroller that found inspiration in Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Castlevania? It’s nearly finished, and it’ll be available via the Nintendo eShop soon, the studio behind it has announced.

AeternoBlade is a side-scrolling action game that allows you to rewind time. If you screw up, you can reverse events in realtime, and them do them over again. This feature is demonstrated in a trailer for the game that was released last month, which you can view above. In addition to its time-reversal mechanic, AeternoBlade also includes a combo-customization system.

AeternoBlade will be available on January 14th, 2014 in both North America and Europe. Prior to that, Europe will see a demo of the game on December 12th, 2013. In Japan, AeternoBlade will be published by Arc System Works under the title Time Avenger.

  • I’m getting very uncanny valley vibes from all the characters. (shudders)
At any rate, seems pretty Sands of Times-ish?

  • Brion Valkerion

Looks cool. Will buy if its the right price.

  • Godmars

I’m just noticing another set of female armor which doesn’t cover a vital area.

    • Eder García

      instant buy

    • Namuro

Why bother protecting yourself properly, when you can just rewind time when you’re done for! With such power, she could afford to dress more stylish!

Having said that, she still has more armors on than most female warriors out there…

    • FlyingPony

Are you people still complain about things like this?

Stop trying to apply real world logic into games, period.

If you still insist you might as well complain how the heck a person with mere steel armor can stand a hit from a 10 feet demon lord with gigantic sword that as large as the protagonist..

Or her taking a hit from 15 feet tall centaur without dying instantly due to serious internal organ damage? Just look at the elephant picture, that steel made car crushed and this girl was hit by even bigger creature. She should be OHKO in real life situation.

Also, no comment on Zevil, a man that walking around in dungeon feast monsters wearing basically a leather armor?

      • Godmars

“Are you people still complain about things like this?”

No. Trying to make a snarky joke. Obviously failed.

  • Julien_N

I’ll try out the demo as soon as it hits the eShop (a shame there is no news for an NA release of the demo though) as I am kinda interested.

It looks like a cool game, I hope there is not too much emphasis and focus on the RPG elements (unlocking stuf, grinding, etc.)

  • Masa

looks promising, not sure on some of the animations though.

  • Alberto Maytorena

The music is generic, the cutscenes look weak and the gameplay looks like a bunch of other games mixed together… Sands of Time, Castlevania, Muramasa, Portal. But it sure got my attention somehow lol

  • Suriel Cruz

This may be one of those games that makes you go bald. I like.

  • TomSkylark

“How can we meet critics’ concerns about giving female characters practical armor, but without sacrificing side-boob?” is clearly an actual conversation that has happened.

    • ha you beat me to it. I was going to less cleverly say, uh-oh, her armor has a hole and I can see her boob.

    • Mike Pureka

Yeah; Somehow the whole “this armor kinda looks practical but NO! LOOK! SIDEBOOB!” thing is MORE annoying than them just saying “Whatever” and putting her in a platemail bikini. At least if they do that, they’re being honest with their pandering.

    • FlyingPony

It give the way for all the sweats to evaporates.. o_o

  • I have mixed feelings about this game…some things seems promissing, other ones seems a little bit off…

  • Vash bane

interesting and it never cease to amaze me how a princess(carol looks like one) is in a place run by monsters lol …. do they like randomly go there out of curiosity XD

  • After Mirror of Fate broke my heart, I’m scared this will suck too.

  • fairysun

The animation looks bad but the gameplay looks good.
I hope it’s not as button mashing as Senran Kagura.

  • luckgandor

Looks a lot more fun than LoS:Mirror of Fate. But to be honest, I was kinda already sold with the side-boob.

  • Reanau

Looks ok… gameplay and animation seemed iffy however.

  • Otoya

Look Awesome!!!!! Get it when I can.

  • harmonyworld

Thank goodness for that sideboob or else I might not have known it was female under that armor.

  • InfectedAI

After all the trouble the developer had trying to localize it I’m glad they succeeded. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this.

  • GaiunxWolfenX

am interested in this game, here is hoping is really good

  • Göran Isacson

Think I’ll actually try and get my hands on this one, these guys have fought so much for their game that it just don’t feel right to overlook them. Only thing I’m worried about is the frame-rate and stiff animation…

  • deathman00789

Everything I’ve seen in the video screams OLD AS HELL. But I like what they’re trying to do so I’ll pick it up~.

  • Looks ok.
