Tales of Zestiria Will Be Released Worldwide

By Ishaan . December 12, 2013 . 8:06am

Last night, Namco Bandai announced Tales of Zestiria, the next games in the Tales of RPG series for PlayStation 3. Although the game has no release date yet, Namco Bandai do have plans to release Tales of Zestiria worldwide.

Over the past few years the Tales of team has taken great strides to strengthen our relationship with players across North America and Europe,” said Tales of series producer Hideo Baba in a press release this morning. “To respond to their love and support I am honored to open a new chapter of the Tales of series together with Japanese and overseas fans.”

“2015 marks the 20th anniversary for the Tales of franchise in Japan and I would like to thank all the fans who have supported us for the past two decades from the bottom of my heart,” said Makoto Yoshizumi, Tales of Chief Producer.

“In recent years we have received anticipation for the series not only from Japan, but from overseas fans as well. Because of this I feel that the Tales of series has more potential than ever before. For this reason we are taking this opportunity to announce Tales of Zestiria as a worldwide title. This title will be going back to the roots of the series and boldly exclaim to the world ‘this is Tales of!’”

Tales of Zestiria features character designs by all four series designers: Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Daigo Okumura, and Minoru Iwamoto. The game returns to a fantasy setting and is meant to convey the “zest” of adventure.

You can find more details on Tales of Zestiria here. Before Zestiria is released, however, Namco will release Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and Tales of Xillia 2 in the west.

    That is pretty awesome.

  • I’m gonna shout it from the rooftops: EEEEEEEE!!! This has been a great day!

    • andref

Just don’t fall off the rooftops

      • I’ll try not. Bridegroom taught me that roofs are dangerous.

  • rhomze

  • Hashim Kutbi

    NOW this is news.

  • Expected that. Question is how soon (or later) we’re getting it after Japan given the sort-of “new interest” Namdai seems to have in Tales overseas.

    Anyways, yay! :D

  • ElGatoSerio

    good news!!!!

  • Revorse

Yes! Bring the zest to the west! I’m a bit excited now.

  • Lambo_21

as long as it is within a year from Japan I will be happy

    • AlphaSixNine

Worlwide release means… they’ll be released on the same day(or week) right?

      • Samsara09

WAIT!Reallly?OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH yeah!oh boomer!Ilke the guy above me said.Still,I am sooooo excited!

      • Lambo_21

No, that’s a simultaneous release… this is just saying it’s coming worldwide at sometime (somewhat regardless of sales- but not really)

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

If it were, they would say simultaneously

  • Christopher

Now, simultaneous release or just worldwide? Cause just worldwide means they will bring it to everyone at some point.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

      The latter, most likely.

    • Lambo_21

probably worldwide… i don’t see it coming everywhere at the same time

  • Chris Yuen

Hideo Baba is not the producer we deserved but the producer we needed.

  • Samsara09

Keep em coming,Namco! You localize,we buy,it is that simple!

  • xe7en

That’s a major step up baba! Your fans greatly appreciate this effort.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Didn’t see that coming at all. For this, I applaud you Namco.

  • EX+

Applause go to Namco and Hideo Baba himself.
He’s one of the main reasons why we’ve gotten a lot of Tales games localized this gen!

    • DanielGearSolid

I really wanna shake the guys hand

      • Chris Yuen

        I did! *points to avatar*

        • DanielGearSolid

Im happy for you, but I’m jealous at the same time!

        • Arcana Wiz

          you lucky bastard!

    • Ladius

He’s really a nice person, and the way he has embraced the series’ western fanbase and built a personal relationship with it is something other jrpg producers and directors should probably take notice of.

  • Nicholas Allen Cotner

    Yes sir!!!!!!!

  • IS | 桂木

Just a few years ago the idea of a worldwide Tales release was scoffed at, “Yeah, right. In your dreams” Now… it’s happening! Most of the major Japanese franchises with even bigger western success haven’t done this yet, and now here comes the Tales series stepping up it’s game in the least expected way imaginable. Good work, Baba-san, and thanks for supporting the west!

  • hazelnut1112

Persona 5 and then a new Tales game for the PS3?
Holy hell, screw these next gen consoles, seriously.

    • DarthSithZero

lol I just bought my first PS3 4 months ago.

      • Saraneth

Likewise. I got it for Persona 4 Arena and in expectation of Persona 5, and I guess I was right.

        • Blackburn7

Same here. I bought it in anticipation of BlazBlue Chronophantasma and Drakengard 3 not too long ago. And now there’s Tales of Zestiria and Persona 5, too. Not to mention ToX 2, FF X HD and ToS HD… Gotta love the third party support for PS3

          • RichyGaming

I’m dying to understand the story in CP in english.

      • koksuckaahh

        I got mine yesterday.

      • hazelnut1112

It’s actually a better time to buy a PS3 if anything. You got games you are waiting for and then you have all the previous released games that are already out which is a pretty good library.

      • Norbert Gespenst

        I did too

    • Learii

hell ya lol, just what I going to say too dam it ps3 get better and better lately

    • Guest
      • SupaPhly

        that was unnecessary

      • Jerry Hu

        But…….never come to XBOX now.

    • EX+

Yeah. I’ll be holding off from buying a PS4 until FF15 comes out. It’s decided for me.

      • Firekitty

You know Squeenix will just end up releasing some crazy Limited Edition PS4 for it anyway, and then you’ll be sad because you can’t justify buying a new system just for a shiny decal.

Clearly waiting is the wisest option.

    • Ric Vazquez

Yeah, the PS3 still has a bunch of life left in it.

  • 2015 worldwide release ^^

  • Roberto

    Thank you namco :D

  • NorthernPatches

I’m so happy and giddy about hearing this I can’t take this stupid grin off my face.

  • mojack411

FINALLY we don’t have to pull tooth and nail for once for localization!

  • Jesse

Hopefully, if this does turn into a simultaneous release, some idiot doesn’t break the street date again, like with Pokemon X and Y.

    *reads articles’s title*
    *heart stops*

    *heart start working again*
*reads the rest of the article*

    • Arcana Wiz

You know right! so happy that we already have a localization confirmation!

    • Ardus

I have no idea why the pic made me laugh but it did.
      good show

  • MrTyrant

    • Crimson_Cloud

Needs ” !!!!!!!!!!!” and then some. XD

  • natchu96

Times like these make me wonder to myself why on earth I DON’T own a PS3.

    • eilegz

And get Catherine with a PS3

    • Arcana Wiz

Persona games in Japan that’s coming over eventually as well.

  • AoNoise

And here I thought Xillia 2 was the only thing I had to look forward regarding Tales..

This is all kinds of awesome.

  • eilegz

good news, im waiting for xillia and eventual release of xillia 2

  • DanielGearSolid

To think I had a so called friend trying to convince me to sell my Ps3 and get a Ps4… After this I have no choice but to cut ties with the scoundrel!

    • icecoffemix

Get PS4 anyway, keep your PS3 forever.

      • DanielGearSolid

        That’s the plan

    • Arcana Wiz

well. This, drakengard 3, persona 5, and many 2014 releases will keep me busy, maybe when i complete them i’ll buy a ps4.

      • tales of xillia 2,tales of symphonia, atelier escha & logy alchemists of the dusk sky,the witch and the hundred knights

        • Arcana Wiz

ar no surge, Final Fantasy X/X-2 hd, Fairy Fencer F, dark souls 2, Natural doctrine, castlevania LOS 2. yep a lot of games.

        • Arcana Wiz

well i like games in general, so i like so many that it’s bound to match many lists :D

          • mike dickson

i can relate my friend i can relate

    • AkuLord3

That would be silly anyway since Ps4 can’t play Ps3 games…so all ur stuff would have been useless :<…AND missing alots of good titles everyone mentioned

  • icecoffemix

Wow Bamco, you’re on the right path there.

  • AuraGuyChris

In a perfect world, every video game is released worldwide at the same time.

  • DyLaN

Hell yeah. Maybe the time have finally come for Tales series to be as well known as FF series.

Also, may I know which game did Minoru did the character design for?

    • Wappuli

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology-series.

      • DyLaN

Thanks for the reply. Looking it up later.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    You have my gratitude, Namdai!

  • fairysun

    This is great news!!

  • Kuromadou

to some people out there who used to scream “booooo (J)RPG is deaaaaddd” ,now we could slap them with Tales games.

    • Kelohmello

I mean… one single series doesn’t mean the genre hasn’t declined massively.

      • No but a lot of the arguments about the genre are because FF is considered its flagship and HAS gone south so hard in a lot of people’s opinions. If one series can be the benchmark for why things are getting worse, why can’t another be the argument for why it’s not?

      • Ladius

I think there hasn’t been any “massive” decline, unless you opt to ignore handhelds or consider Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels as some sort of representative for the whole genre, which makes little sense considering how jrpgs have always been an extremely diverse context in terms of gameplay, art direction and narrative.

Tales, Ys, Fire Emblem, SMT, Trails, Disgaea, Xeno, Atelier, Persona and lots of other series and stand alone games like Bravely Default, The Guided Fate Paradox or Ni no Kuni make the genre far from dead (of course not all of them need to cater to the same audience, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be good for what they are), and the slow rise of PC jrpgs thanks to Carpe Fulgur and XSEED is opening up a new venue that could prove extremely interesting in the upcoming years.

        • Demeanor

Hats off to you friend, I love your post!!! :D

        • Kelohmello

I suppose declined isn’t the right word, but as you implied, most of them are on handhelds, and there is my problem, and I’m sure many others agree with me. There really aren’t that many RPGs on home-console compared to the last generation.

          • Ultimate Gattai

Maybe you mean somewhat diluted instead of decline (westernization of the genre)? When the PS3 first came out we didn’t have many JRPGs and when we did start getting them there weren’t many good ones to buy (either that or they weren’t localized). It’s only as we’re getting closer to the end of the PS3’s life cycle that all of these good JRPGs are finally coming out of the woodwork.

  • Herok♞

Well this is good but I wonder what they are going to do now that it is a thing for the whole world, people are still waiting for Xilla 2, I kinda wish they did what they did for pokemon of having it all out of the same day but this is still good.

    • Kelohmello

It’s not gonna be out for a while. Xillia 2 comes out fairly soon in comparison so there’s nothing problematic here.

    • Xillia 1 just got here a few months ago. Have a little patience.

  • Rogerrmark

I’m in love with this new Bamco

  • Brandon001

  • Yan Zhao

They finally realizing us Western Tales fans exist. Good to hear. Still crossing my fingers for dual audio, its worldwide release after all.

  • Raspberry

Very exited! Looks like my PS3 will get some love well in to 2015.

  • Hinataharem

This is the zest news all day

    • Ferrick

ikr! Zhis iz zhe zest zews all day!

    Gremlins found in Playstation:) gotgremlins.com

  • Michael Connell

With this I’d say 13 is a lucky number for us Tales fans :)

  • Nitraion

If the next news persona 5 release worldwide…..
    i will sleep with my PS3.. O-o

  • Suriel Cruz

“This title will be going back to the roots of the series and boldly exclaim to the world ‘this is Tales of!’”
    Hideo Baba, ARIGATOU’! ^ ^

  • Masa

worldwide…….damn it, i must be still asleep and dreaming.

  • akai

It will also contain japanese audio , right Baba ? Confirm that and my all money + heart is yours :D

    • Slayven19

Xillia 2 doesn’t have dual audio so this probably won’t either. Best be taking your cash elseware because it looks like that was only a special case for TOS collection.

      • akai

There are always other stuff that I can spend my money. Actually I can get JoJo’s upcoming game with that money :D

    • Firekitty

I won’t call it likely, exactly, but it’s not UNlikely.

He said Xillia 2 couldn’t have dual audio because the game was complete when the decision to localize was made, and so they couldn’t add the extra coding in…which means that, if this game is being announced for localization while it’s still in development…

It’s Namco, so they could still screw it up, but they won’t get away with ‘It just wasn’t possible this time!!!’ again.

  • Hiro Oozora

    So hypeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • David García Abril

Although if they really want to turn this into the 20th anniversary title, it means we won’t get it until 2015… :(

    • Wappuli

While 2015 sounds most likely, it’s not like they have to be too exact with those.
Xillia was supposed to be 15th anniversarry title but it was released in 2011.

      • s07195

You reminded me that while I was watching the trailer, I saw the Tales 20th anniversary logo, and I was like… ‘Wait, Xilla is five years old already?!’

  • YES! That’s what I’m talkin about! =^_^=

  • Kintama

I giggled like a retarded little girl when I read this article

  • MrJechgo

As long as they don’t re-release the game on another console with upgrades and being Japan-exclusive, I’ll be fine with it.

  • DivinePhoenix69

Between Lightning Returns, Drakengard 3, Symphonia HD, Xillia 2, FFX/X2 HD and Persona 5 all coming in 2014 and now this game in 2015…yep its definately a good time to be a PS3 RPG fan.

  • Kornelious

And I just said on another article that a localization was guaranteed. But getting the game on the same day as Japan!? That is awesome on god-like levels!

    • Ladius

Careful, worldwide release isn’t the same as simultaneous worldwide release. It’s still great they have announced it the same day, though.

      • Kornelious

True, but Im still happy :)

        • Draparde

I’m hoping they at least do what they did with vesperia~ (at least for JP/NA , but for the whole world)
since the release date’s where in the same month.

that doesn’t mean i wouldn’t be happy with whatever they did though :X

  • Audie Bakerson

Isn’t that they planed a worldwide release of the original version from the start the reason they gave for never releasing Vesperia PS3 in the west?

    • sakusakusakura_nyo

I wish Vesperia got a western release on PS3. It’s the only Xbox game I really want to play but I can’t buy a 360 just for that.

  • Ladius

It’s so easy to love Namco nowadays, and I’m glad they got back some of that love with Xillia’s wonderful sales.

  • TomSkylark

    Well, this is something different.

  • HerosLight

This is clearly the best announcement out of the 3 Tales of Zestiria related.

  • zweii

I hope they announce a limited edition console bundle for either Zest or P5.
I have doubts my Gunmetal PS3 will last until either releases.

  • Alex Sargeant

This is too much guys. I haven’t gotten over losing my shit about Danganronpa/Steins;Gate or Conception 2 yet. I don’t think I’m going to live to 26.

  • Crimson_Cloud

I’m not used to this kind of love, I must be dreaming. This takes me back when I didn’t have to worry if I’ll see another game in the series being localized. This made my day. ˇˇ

  • Nanaki

Beautiful! More to look forward to.

  • Manny Being Manny

I’m so glad this was confirmed to be dual audio… Namco is really getting on the ball now. With this and the newest FF title being dual audio, theres no excuse anymore for JRPGs to not be dual audio since the big boys are

    • Ladius

It hasn’t been confirmed as a dual audio release yet afaik, but it’s likely it will be considering they went that way with Symphonia Chronicles.

    • Slayven19

This isn’t confirmed to be dual audio at all. In fact tales of Xillia 2 isn’t going to be dual audio either. There’s a reason compaines don’t do dual audio and just cause other people are doing it doesn’t mean those other companies can or will change their policy. Watch Persona 5 not be dual audio.

      • Firekitty

Xillia 2 is not dual audio specifically because the game was complete by the time the decision to localize it was made, and therefore the development team, already busy with another project, wasn’t able to go in and adjust the code to add the feature. Even as someone who won’t buy dub-only games, period, I have to admit that this is a valid reason (And appreciate Namco for being honest rather than pushing the ‘blame’ off on ‘lol, the voice actors wanted too much monies!!!’).

Given that this is being announced for world-wide release at the get-go, they really have no excuse not to program it in from the get-go.

        • raymk

Too much money is a valid reason. Its why nis dont have full dub for their games, yet namco and atlus do. Especially for niche market games. The cost of people who wont buy for dual audio is very small so theres really no reason to do it. Sure this is a worldwide release but so was vesperia and it didnt have dual audio either. However i,wont be mad if the game does add dual audio.

          • Firekitty

It would be a valid reason if I weren’t dubious about the truth of it…Voice actors are typically paid by the line or by the time spent in the studio. Royalties agreements might happen, but it’s unlikely they’re as common or restrictive as they seem to want us to believe.

And I think the Ayesha debacle proved once and for all that NISA dubs wouldn’t be full (and their translations wouldn’t be good) regardless of whether the original voices were kept or not. Tecmo may have taken over publishing, but NISA still handled the actual localization.

    • Theob Vious Choice

Unfortunately, I highly doubt it will be; Namco HAS been cool lately, but being “too” cool will cause them to implode. I wish it were dual audio, but I doubt it will be; which is why I’m glad tons of other great JRPGs are coming out so I don’t have to feel like “Ah man, I didn’t buy another Tales game and it’s like the only thing out…”
I can understand Final Fantasy being dubbed more-so than Tales, considering Final Fantasy’s art is more realistic. But hell, they’re the ones who will probably keep up the dual audio even though I like their games a lot less.
*gets downvoted to oblivion because “dual audio” was mentioned*

  • Sydney Losstarot

Yay! I like the name of this game. Reminds me of Gintama chapter 430 page 4. I don’t see many z’s except in my sleep.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

That’s great news! I wish more companies would just announce worldwide releases from the get go instead of leaving fans guessing for months.

  • Kamakuma

This just made my day! Now I must get through my insane amount of backlog to build up to 2015. @[email protected]

  • Tatsuya Fabre

So essentially slow down the Japanese release…

    • Tatsuya Fabre

Wait, never mind. They confirmed it for worlwide but not simultaneous releases.

  • bigboss09

could be a sign of the end of the world
    it can’t be ….

  • 3PointDecoupage

Does worldwide release mean simultaneous release?
Also Im happy to hear Tales is doing well in America.

    • Ladius

No, they just confirmed it will be localized making it a worldwide announcement, but they never said anything about a worldwide simultaneous release.

Considering they’re already bringing Symphonia Chronicles and Xillia 2 in 2014, I doubt they want to crowd the Tales games too much.

  • Pockystix

and this; ladies and gentleman, is how you do localization.

    Your move Square Enix

    • Death Saved

No simultaneous release in all regions is how you do a localization, while they have announced it as a worldwide title they did not say that it will be released at all region at the same time.

  • I heard about this on ANN, and I have to say this: Namco Bandai, I praise you anc clapping my hand for this!!!

  • Yay~. ♥
Fabulous news all around. And while I least enjoy Daigo’s designs, I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table (especially Inomata).

  • Manny Being Manny

“It will also be the first time that a Tales game features both an English and Japanese audio track.”

Thats posted by Namco themselves, so its as official as it gets.

    • Kowimen

That’s about Tales of Symphonia, not Zestiria.

    • fireguardiancoty

Uhh…he’s talking about Symphonia when he says that. Not Zestiria.

  • The game returns to a fantasy setting and is meant to convey the “zest” of adventure.

    It involves fruit peel scrapings…??

    • MrRobbyM

We must zest the skin of the dragons…to make the ultimate pie.

    • DuskSharkEX

Yup, and they will use it to create Lock Seeds.

  • Adam Zaorski

This is great news, I can go asleep now all happy and smiley.

  • Jirin

I’m glad Namco has learned how frustrating it is for their fans not to know whether they’ll ever be able to play their game.

  • Romancer Ecclesia

I hope it’s not a simultaneous worldwide release, because of the precedent set by Persona 4 Arena.

    • Kelohmello

Kinda funny to compare the localization for a fighting game to the localization for an RPG…

      • Romancer Ecclesia

I’m not comparing the genre… I’m predicting the possibility of a region lock.

  • CirnoLakes

    Such a quick announcement!
Namco is giving us so much love, it makes me really happy!

I hope that Namco and Tales fans maintain this kind of relationship forevermore!
