Lightning Returns: Final Fanasy XIII’s Costume From FFX-2 Looks Great In Battle

By Ishaan . December 17, 2013 . 1:28pm

Earlier today, Square Enix announced that they’re going to be releasing two of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII’s bonus costumes as paid DLC in Japan, alongside a Final Fantasy X-2 costume. A trailer for these three outfits—Cloud, Aerith and Yuna’s Gunner outfit—is now available for viewing:

All three costumes can be bought together for 1,000 yen ($10) or individually for 400 yen ($4) each. While the Cloud and Aerith costumes are a pre-order bonus and limited edition bonus in North America respectively, Square haven’t announced their plans for the Final Fantasy X-2 costume in the west yet.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will reach the U.S. and Europe in February 2014.

Some Sun wouldn’t kill that girl.

    She is so pale…

    • AkiraScare

      Pale is alright (^_^)

      • Kumiko Akimoto

        Pale skin ftw

        • NewestType

Apparently part of the design was transparency for lightning. you can see her skin has gotten lighter with each installment lol

  • Malon

I love the alternative victory fanfares that come bundled with the costumes.

    But 4$… Meh.

    • Ehren Rivers

It’s a pretty good deal, all things considered. You get a customizable costume, a weapon, a shield, the legacy costumes come with nostalgia fanfares, and some of them come with accessories/decorations. Hell, they even come with spells and abilities attached, some of which are unique or become unique in specific circumstances. Compared to Tales Of costumes, which are usually purely aesthetic (or may chance the battle theme) and $3-5…

Well, let’s just say it looks like they took the criticisms over XIII-2′s “barebones” costume DLC to heart.

  • DrakeClawfang

God, that staff hanging in the air…I know how models work and that’s just how they work, but come on, how could they put that out looking that way?

    • Detrimont

because that’s how it was in ff7

      • Nanaki

        Ethan is correct.

      • DrakeClawfang

You never saw Aerith with her staff behind her back in FF7

    • NewestType

      facepalms all around!

They’re right. The FFX-2 outfit does look very nice on her. I must have it *_*

  • Iyyuchtus

Just like to point out the misspelled title “Final Fanasy” :)

  • Lucky Dan

I hope the game makes it out here and hope that the testers of FFXIII Lightning Returns don’t discover the questionable things you can do with the “paint a costume option”

    • NewestType

      lol

  • Tiinchox

    Every new I read about FFXIII-3 is about Lightning’s costumes… -_-

  • Bobby Jennings

I got the game digital. It’s freaking great.

Much better than the last two games.

    • NewestType

Right? This is one of the most fun RPGs on the PS3 since it launched(the console i mean)

  • Servant BerserCAR

Aw, c’mon Square, just bring us the FF 8 costumes already.

    • DrakeClawfang

I’d not hold my breath, it seems the character costumes are based on Toriyama’s fav games and the ones he helped develop, which were FF7 and FF10. Not to mention they’re both bigger than FF8.

      • Servant BerserCAR

Well, let’s just keep our fingers crossed.

      • KnifeAndFork

8.3 million sales is nothing to scoff at (FF VIII). That’s more than FF X actually

        • NewestType

X was a generational success. It was the timing and such.FF was on a popularity phase shortly after 1999 (thanks FF9). Personally I put X and XIII in the same boat. lots of content, great stories. And battle systems that were improved with each additonal release after the original. Don’t get me wrong I already bought X HD on the PSN (OMG December 23rd cant come soon enough!). I love X just compare to the PS era and prior, extremley lackluster in terms of gameplay. Especially in battle.

      • NewestType

        lol
this is not confirmed AT ALL. They have been based on popularity/promotion SEM feedback. At E3 they revealed the Miqote because of the FFXIV tie in.

        • DrakeClawfang

I never said this was official word. But, Toriyama was involved with the development of FF7 and FFX and has voiced his personal love for those games, and thus aside from “allusion” costumes like Locke and Faris, we get DLC based on FF7 and FFX characters. May not be the “official word” but I still catch a whiff of favortism in these choices.

  • Dark Zerato

    I heard Lumina called Lightning onee-chan. A hint ??

    • Gael Summers

      no

      • NewestType

        … yes

        • Gael Summers

          “No”

          • NewestType

            …yes – Lumina Farron 500 NP.

  • Dagobert

I’m guessing they’ll release a Tifa costume and charge that like 10$ cause they figure errbody wanna waifu this Cloud clone so they’ll be willing to pay that much.

    • KnifeAndFork

Lightning lacks the body dimensions for it

      • megaten666

Breast implant DLC for another 5$

        PS:
Please SquareEnix, don’t read this. I fear that I might give you ideas.

    • NewestType

just so you know, all the costumes will be 400 Yen or free. The next batch has already been detailed for 2014 around lightnings return to NA and Eorzea.

  • Unlimax

Would be better if they kept the old school FF Customs to FF XV , I would love to see Stella with Yuna Customs and the rest of FF XV characters as the old school FF Customs !

    • NewestType

you should start writing to them now if you feel that strongly. Mind you something like that would send certain visitors into a blinding rage.

  • Vash bane

I find it funny that most vids ive seen had the X-2 costume were token don before lol

but its better we get to see it in a better quality :)
