By Ishaan . December 29, 2013 . 11:00am

The final design for Call, Beck’s sidekick in Mighty No. 9, has been decided. The design was voted on by fans, and the final design is the one below, created by Inti-Creates’ Yuuji Natsume:

Mighty No. 9 is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and PlayStation Vita.

  • John Diamond

it was one of th ebetter designs so i’m cool

  • Bob Obb

Awesome, this was the only one I liked. Reminds me of Powerpuff Girls Z

    • Rinkawa Erion

      Reminds me of Roll actually…

  • ChiffonCake

    It’s pretty good.

  • Hagaren

    Nice, I like it!

  • D-Omen

The expressive ribbon/bunny ears are hilarious, ha ha!

    • Sakurazaki

      Kawaii as ****, yo.

    • M’iau M’iaut

A nekomimi by any other name is just as cute. And she even rocks the headphones too. F had plenty of tropes to get votes on her behalf from.

  • XaviIniesta

    Love it.
Especially the expressive ribbon/bunny ears, as mentioned below.

  • Hitaki

Some of the other designs they had were great, but this one definitely felt the most natural in my opinion.

  • Ahris

I’m disappointed. This design was a good choice, but the color palette (a blond and pink colored girl) is entirely generic.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Please keep the talk on the subject of the entries. Let’s not go personal with comments. Thanks.

  • Lalum

Really would have liked if A or B won.

  • Sakurazaki

Always thought this was the best choice though I did like the more spacey-looking one. Just as Beck is a successor to Megaman (and all of this blueness), Call would be to Roll (blond and red <3)

  • Andrés Ortiz Ozeta

i knew this design would win… is the closest look-alike to Rol and it’s neat, though i liked other designs better

  • Tom_Phoenix

Not even remotely surprised this design won. Not only is it one of the better designs, it fits in the sense that she is an expy of Roll, much like how Beck is an expy of Mega Man/Rock Man.

    Plus, everyone loves blondes. =P

    • Serge
      • Altin

I was in favour if E too. What a shame T_T

        • I can’t even express my disappointment enough that E didn’t win.

          • Sigfried Silverblade

I voted for E. I am a bit frustrated that she didn’t win.

But at least it wasn’t Call H that won. That one felt like a Roll rip-off to me (dunno why).

          • You’re a good soldier for that E vote ;-;

      • Chaos_Knight

Eh….Call E reminded me too much of Athena from Dual Destinies. Mainly because of the hairstyle.

      • I really love this art style, simple yet very sophisticated at the same time! Hopefully we can see the chosen Call drawn in this style.

      • personablaze

I personally like this one best.

      • Tom_Phoenix

While E was a good design, I personally feel it wouldn’t have been an appropriate choice on the grounds that she looks too much like she is strictly mission control. The design that won feels more appropriate for a secondary protagonist (although that short skirt might be a problem…).

        • Jettythesunfish

Actually, it probably would have been more intriguing to have such a character be an action heroine alongside Beck. Just for that reason alone; she doesn’t look suited to the role. Do you know how many heads would turn if a character dressed for mission control took the field?

        • Hurting them means us surviving. Roll, move out!

          Didn’t stop him.

        • Lynx

She’d call in kill sats from orbit, obviously.

        • Armane

I think this is why I disliked E, and why I am glad F came out on top again. H was quite plain in comparison to both, but I didn’t outright dislike it.

        • Shippoyasha

Well, it’s a game with robots so I’m not sure ‘appropriateness’ in clothing matters that much. Plus, she might have gotten costume changes in-battle considering she was shown off with dozens of character costume swaps. I don’t think short skirt or even cutesy upskirt in new Call really matters. Roll was kind of like that in some Megaman games and it was more cute than anything.

          • Tom_Phoenix

You’d THINK it wouldn’t matter, but Japanese robots are nothing if not absurdly human…even in areas where they really, REALLY shouldn’t be.

      • tubers

Much prefer her too but I guess she kinda looks like someone from Panty and Stocking anime.

        • Crimson_Cloud

          Nice image.

Well to me this is definitely one of the better designs. Gives me good vibe, and I’m looking forward in playing her stage.

      • DragKudo

Let’s hope they make her as a guide/support character for Beck and Call. There is so much they could do with the other designs. Make them as bosses, npc, Becks other sisters, playable characters, etc.

      • tubers

        I think there’s a chance for her.

Either as a new character in the future or DLC (skin/character).

..specially if Might No.9 doesn’t bomb.

  • Ping92

aw i wanted E to win. but this 1 is my second favourite

  • ragingmerifes

I don’t think this game will be considered a new IP if fans keep demanding that everything is only ripped from Megaman, and if I wanted to play the same thing I would just get a NES instead of funding a copy… but that’s just me.

  • Chaos_Knight

I’m so glad Roll Call won. Her design and expressions give her a childhood friend/tsundere type.

    • D-Omen

Ha ha, never noticed how much like Aile she looks. That’s cool.

      • Leon_Tekashi

        Bonus points!

    • Jettythesunfish

Haha, “Roll Call”. I see what you did there. :)

      • Adrian Duran

not to mention Jeff “Beck” is a famous “Rock”star

    • When I did a Call F fanart yerterday I noticed it has a resemblance to Aile lol.

      • J_Joestar

well the designer was from Inti-creates which made Z and ZX games so it isn’t too surprising the art-style bears a stronger resemblance.

        • Yeeeh.

Which it’s cool, I like how Call F has a Roll, Ciel and Aile feel in her .w.

    • I’m also really glad it won. I’m a big fan of Roll, so I really would never accept something too different.

  • Personally wanted E, myself… but I guess this is fine. I liked F more than H, at least.

She really makes me think of Blossom.

  • Ixbran

    Why, hello there Roll 2.0…

    = – =

so much for this game not being a complete megaman rip off

    • subsamuel01

Can it really be defined as a rip off if the same creator made both Mega man and Mighty No. 9. It’s more of a successor than a rip off.

    • MSJ

    • Jettythesunfish

Yeah, it’s almost like Keiji Inafune was involved or something!

      • brostar

This. I don’t get why everyone is complaining. This is basically Inafune reclaiming the Mega Man ip without having to pay Capcom a buttload of cash to do it.

    • I thought everone funded M9 because they want a Megaman Rip o—err, a Spiritual Successor~

      Im totes okay with this.

    • It’s supposed to be a complete Mega Man ripoff. That’s the only reason anyone is interested.

  • SirRichard

I had personally wanted E to win, but I’m fine with this, F is pretty adorable.

  • Jettythesunfish

Yeah, I kinda like this design for Call. It’s cute and she even looks the part of a heroine (not to say some of the other designs didn’t).

  • Go2hell66

Thats the one i voted for so cant complain

  • It would be nice if they could use some of the other designs – tweaking their designs a bit – in to other characters, or something. It would be a shame to lose them.

I’ll miss you Call H. You did me proud out there.

    • 하세요

      +1 for VC picture.

      • Agreed, best srpg I ever played, and I usually hate this genre… :O

        • Kai2591

          same here

    • Eric

      Marina <3

      • Kai2591

        her character was underrated!

  • MSJ

Hell yeah, F, love that design.

  • kaizin

like the look on call great work

  • Azure Flame

I knew they would pick this one.

  • Im glad Call F won, that’s all Imma say.

… Well that and I hope some of the other design proposals get integrated as NCP or some as skins maybe~

  • tubers

    Prefer E’s.

She looks like a Femdroid Moe Mcdonald. :P

  • AnotherTime

I voted D…you know. Just as a note.

    • CirnoLakes

      That was a good choice.

  • epy

Damn, my choice didn’t win. I like this one a lot but it’s just too… Roll. Something different that made it into its own would have been nice.

  • xXDGFXx

I had difficulty choosing between this and E, but as long as either won was fine with me. Both of them were adorable with the hair and bow usage for their reactions :3

  • Theob Vious Choice

I was hoping for either this or the Mighty Heroine design, this one was the more likely of the two and much more detailed; and after seeing the colorized version, I can safely say it was the better of the three. Call E was cute too, I’m just glad that Call C didn’t win.

  • Fango

Could have shown more cleavage/skin but I like it.

    • Roll Caskett

  • Alexandra Cordes

The first time I saw her, I knew she was the true Call. *-*

  • monkey king

It’s almost as if people don’t like progress/originality…oh well I guess roll v2 it is.

  • dahuuuundge

No one complained when Beck resembles Megaman, why complain when F Call resembles Roll?

    • Yan Zhao

Worst part is she doesnt even resemble roll. She’s more like Ciel from Megaman Zero. Of course the Call-E supporters will find any BS they can in their campaign.

      • FetusZero

I loved Ciel. I loved the MMZ series overall, probably my favorite one out of the bunch (even though the classic series still remains the closest to my heart). But I would of liked something different, not only for Call, but for Beck as well.

      • Eric

I think she looks a lot like Roll. Mostly the marvel vs capcom roll. Skirt, hair color, bangs, ribbon etc. Nothing’s particularly identical save maybe the bangs, but the similarities are there.

        • Yan Zhao

The only similarity are the colors. Nothing more. Not exactly a good basis to go on. The hair style arent even the same.

If anything Call-H is more like Roll due to her human-like face. Call-F has robotic eyes. Roll doesnt. Sorry but I dont see the resemblance at all.

          • J_Joestar

What do you mean the hair style isn’t the same? at most, Classic Roll’s ponytail just isn’t worn as high as F’s. It isn’t the exact same, but it is very similar.

          • Yan Zhao

Oh ok, so their hair have a SLIGHT resemblance and all the sudden she’s a “Roll Rip-off”. Great logic.

No they arent. The front is completely different, the back of the pony tail is spread out rather than being a “tail”. Never mind the rest of the design looks nothing like Call-F.

You guys are really grasping at straws. Whats next? “They both wear ribbons (that have completely different designs) so they look alike.”?

          • Alberto Maytorena

It’s exaggerated to call Call a rip-off, but she really resemble Roll, I guess that was the reason she gained so many votes.

          • J_Joestar

I never called her a Roll Rip-off (maybe an Expy at most), F is even my favorite design. I’m not saying she is the exact same as Classic Roll, but to say there is absolutely no resemblance is absurd too. F’s design clearly draws a lot of inspiration from Classic Roll’s look and feel.
Obviously the small details can’t all be the same, do you understand what would happen if you made a game and used the exact same design of a character someone else owned? this isn’t like a small doujin game or something that big companies will just overlook. It is more broad general details that combine into the character that can be used to imitate the original’s style/appeal (such as Cheerful Blonde Ponytail girl in red/pinkish clothing).

And you sound more like your grasping at straws to find any differences when you note the front is different and find a picture to show it, but the MM8 Roll design that was posted above has a completely different front design.

          • Zonder88

“They both have ponytails so they are similar, even though the ponytails looks nothing alike.”

            Internet logic at its finest.

    • AuraGuyChris

She (this one here) only resembles her in hair color and clothing color.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Of course that one was going to win ~_~

  • Earthjolly

    Pretty generic design, but meh

  • LustEnvy

As soon as I saw this design, I was certain it’d be the most popular choice, mostly because it was the Roll to Beck’s Megaman. It just made sense as a somewhat reimagining of Megaman.

Wonder if we’ll get Protoman and Bass equivalents.

    • That would be the best. Protoman can be Mighty No. P or something.

      • Uso Ewin

If he’s the prototype then wouldn’t he be Mighty No. 0?

        • LustEnvy

I wouldn’t even call him Mighty. Since he’s a prototype, it’s make sense to just call him ‘The No. 0’

Hahaha, look at us thinking about possibilities.

    • Anime10121

With whistle theme in tow :D

  • Spirit Macardi

I think it was obvious from the start that the Roll look-alike would be the chosen design.

    • J_Joestar

as “obvious” as it was, it isn’t like she won with any sort of overwhelming majority either.

  • Shady Shariest

I remember seeing all the awesome designs and then noticing this one…
And at that moment was sure that fans would smack Capcom to the cheek on this one -_-‘

  • MrJechgo

This game is shaping up to be one Hell of a Mega Man rip-off. I’m surprised that Capcom didn’t stop the crowd-funding or tried to sue Inafune for this. You could argue that Inafune created Mega Man for Capcom, but still…
However, that shouldn’t stop the game from being great. If the game delivers, who really cares if it looks like Mega Man? You could add that this is the thing that can be given to MM fans these days.

    • Arrei

What could Capcom sue for? The assets are entirely original, Mega Man is not the only series that can have run and gun platforming, and they don’t own Inafune’s art style either.

  • Freud_Hater

Well… I was pretty much determined to get this game before, but her cuteness has definitely convinced me ^^’

  • Linhua

… yeeeeep… saw this one coming.

  • Lt. Gen. GoldLiger(SS3 Beat)

    A question:
Was Roll ever a playable character in any of the Megaman series games?

  • Lt. Gen. GoldLiger(SS3 Beat)

Did the other female star of this new series ancestor ever was playable?

  • Lt. Gen. GoldLiger(SS3 Beat)

Does anyone know whether P.F.C. was usable before?

  • Lt. Gen. GoldLiger(SS3 Beat)

Was prior version usable at all during that series?

  • Astrotrain

    H was better.

    • Roll Caskett

H has a generic design in it. You could see why not many people voted for H

  • KrazyBean

I prefered E…but this was good as well.

  • Lt. Gen. GoldLiger(SS3 Beat)

    Good choice.

  • TatsuyaKyo

Nice, I really like the design. Bonus points for them ribbons.

Now, let’s hope it doesn’t end up like this…

    • J_Joestar

Well good thing that Call isn’t the little sister of a military robot then. Roll-types tend to survive better than Iris-types.

  • Syde Tokai

she looks like blossom from ppgz

  • Shadowman

Nice! I can hear her already saying “Here Beck this is a new invention I hope you like it” lol

  • Unretributed

I preferred E (the flight attendant looking one).

This one just looks like a more generic version of Roll

  • I remember I really liked the Klonoa-looking Call back before they had the actual poll, which didn’t include that version for some reason.
From the actual poll, I had a soft spot for the one that had an evil look on her face. I think people were calling her Dr. Wily’s daughter robot.

  • Wow, the bitching on the kickstarter page is great. This is the best design for a heroic playable character. The other one looked like a goddamn flight attendant.

    • Are there some mentioning for refunds because of the poll result?

    • Arcana Wiz

While i agree that bitching and refuding is silly, i think you should respect others opinions, actually this Roll wasnt even in my top 5… so dont try to pass your opinion as a fact.

  • ZekeFreek

Not my favorite of the choices but was definitely in my Top 3. I’m satisfied.

  • Otoya

Now is a figure of her and everyone that voted her will be even more happy. XD

  • Kai2591

  • Vash bane

interesting I know its just me lol

but to me she looks like a fusion of roll (clothes color wise) ciel (took awhile to notice that she also has the vest mini skirt combo going) and maybe aile ( by the face).

    cute design

    • J_Joestar

She pretty much embodies the typical Blonde partner/sidekick/supporter that Megaman usually has in some shape or form.

  • CirnoLakes

    This makes me happy.

  • Guest

    Watch out Ronald.

  • JNT

    nice, Not-Roll was my favorite

  • T-X

If Capcom does decide to pick this up and support Inafune and make this a Megaman game then it’d be cool to preserve the names Beck and Call as Mega Beck and Roll Call, lol.

  • 4shiki

    Eh…sure, she’s adorable as a button, but…I’m still very sad I (as in the design labeled I) lost. :( Oh well… /sigh
