Konami Appear To Be Making Progress With Metal Gear Rising’s Region Lock On PC

By Ishaan . January 9, 2014 . 8:30am

It looks like Konami are making some headway on the Metal Gear Rising region-lock front on PC. As previously reported, Rising is unavailable in certain parts of Europe and Asia, with cross-region gifting disabled as well.

Yesterday, however, Platinum Games’ J.P. Kellams tweeted: “MGR Region News: Ireland is apparently in the clear, along with some countries in the Middle East. Still dunno about Asia. Waiting to hear.”

Last week, Kellams tweeted that he was aware of the region lock issue, and that, while PlatinumGames have no control over the region lock, Konami were “looking into it”.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is available today on Steam.

Yep, another backward thinking by out of touch suits at big publisher. Things like this will only encourage piracy if anything.

Oh well, at least they’re seemingly trying to rectify it, on the surface at least.

This is good news. They’re working on getting there and you can’t hold that against them.

Off Topic: Why do you guys refer to a single company as thought it’s plural?

I Picked up a PS3 copy of this game a couple of weeks ago. Shortest. Metal Gear. Ever.

This is old news (like few days back old). MGR has already released and checking SteamDB (http://steamdb.info/sub/36077/#section_history), the region lock for Asia was deliberately added. Really hating Konami right now =/

Now it’s suspected that they implemented always online DRM. I hope this isn’t true, since it doesn’t even hurt pirates but punishes the paying customers.
