In This 3DS Game, You Hang Out With Disney Characters And Manage A Café

In Japan, Disney and Namco Bandai published a Nintendo 3DS game titled Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life. This game is headed to North America, and will be published by Nintendo under the title Disney Magical World.

Disney Magical World features a number of Disney characters across a variety of Disney-themed worlds. You’ll get to customize your own character with a large number of Disney-themed outfits and accessories, while you manage a café, plant crops and collect Disney character cards within the game.

You’ll also help the Disney cast solve their problems or find items for them, and you can check out some of the characters in the screenshots below.

Disney Magical World was released in Japan on August 1st, 2013. Since then, the game has gone on to sell over 400,000 copies. It should be interesting to see how it does in North America.

Disney Magical World will be available in North America on April 11th. You can watch a Japanese trailer for the game above, if you want to see what the fuss is about.

Oh, so they’re bringing this over? I guess I’ll just buy it anyways… Not for me… It’s for a friend…

  • Barrylocke89

I was surprised that this game did so well. I mean, yeah, everyone all over the world knows and loves the Disney characters, but it seemed like one of those titles that would hit a nice niche and then move on.

But Japan does love these Animal Crossing style games, and we know they can do well in the West too. If Disney markets it nicely, this game could make them some cash.

They love Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and friends a lot. No wonder Nintendo grabbed exclusivity for both console Epic Mickey there.

  • mockturtle

YES!! I have been waiting impatiently for a localization announcement since it came out.

    • Phoenix Wright

Me too! I can’t believe that after all of this time, it is going to end up coming out!

  • Grape Monet

Wow, I don’t think Nintendo has published a Disney game since Magical Mirror on the Gamecube! I know this, of course, because I still have that game.

    • Barrylocke89

Oh! I didn’t even realize this game was being published by Nintendo in NA. The chances of it being a success just went up then, since Nintendo and Disney together would be able to market the game in a way that other publishers wouldn’t.

    • GH56734

Both Epic Mickey games in Japan.

  • Christopher McNair

I am excited for this. Even Pokemon wasn’t enough to make me care about 3DS too much. I WILL have this game!

  • Saphiren

Holy shit, the moment I saw donald in the thumbnail I was already with the Keyblade in hands screaming “KH3!”

;_; Seems a good game though.

  • Serge

I love this kind of game, is my guilty pleasure.

  • Slickyslacker

Oh, I thought they had finally gone off the deep end with Kingdom Hearts spinoffs.

  • harmonyworld

now if only I could wield a keyblade~~

*Ignores Disney Land and goes to the Marvel Building, then goes to the Star Wars Battleship, and then to the Indiana Jones Jungle*

  • Space_Ghost

If this game is quality I’ll likely pick it up for my sister. Just bought her a 2DS and Animal Crossing a few weeks ago :D I’ll turn my loved ones into gamers if it takes a lifetime!

  • Learii

manage a café, plant crops and collect Disney character cards also help the Disney cast solve their problems or find items for them
hm anything else? no fun time like Disneyland or riding stuffs?

    • Maybe a Nintendo Land / Disney game crossover should be in the future~?

  • I wonder if this café will allow members of the Jewish community in it’s doors.
    I know, I know. I just couldn’t resist.

    • Göran Isacson

While I did snicker a little, I also got to think about something else: will you be able to change your avatars skin color here? I mean, everyone in this game seems to be “pale” since hey, Japan, kinda homogenous over there. But in the US? And especially considering Disney’s massive appeal? One hopes they think far enough ahead to make it so everyone of all colors can hang with the mouse.

      • Which is kind of the sad part, because that’s still excluding quite the community in Japan if the characters were all that skintone.

But yeah, you’d think they’d add more customization given the audience.

  • J_Joestar

Toss this thing in and i’ll consider it.

  • I remember seeing a CM of this before, it looked really cute and fun and I’m excited to see it come here!

Also, this could do incredibly well for them (and maybe boost 3DS sales) if handled right, or just do okay (if even that). I hope they advertise this right. Just a few commercials during the right programs and they could make some good money off this~.

Here’s to hoping it does well. I’m looking forward to trying it out. ♥

I’m 27 and i’m psyched. Any time you mix elements of Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, and management sim, i’m there. Now if only something destroyed the magic kingdom and forced you to rebuild it again…

  • Sora outfit for DLC.

    • AuraGuyChris

That’s Square-Enix’s side, and knowing how they own the character…tough luck.

      • KnifeAndFork

Disney owns all Kingdom Hearts original characters. Square-Enix just developed it

      • Ixbran

KnifeAndFork is correct. Just pay attention to the games loading screen, or read the back of the games box.

it will always say “(c)/Copyright Disney Interactive Studios. Developed by Square Enix” (and h.a.n.d. for the DS titles)

then following will be a list of SE copyright info regarding the SE Logo, and SE characters and music from the FF titles (or TWEWY in the case of KH3D).

SE only takes claim to making the games, and owning the FF/TWEWY characters/songs.

Everything else is owned by disney.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I feel this is going to be such a special game.

  • Ben Green

  • neetyneety

It’s like Kingdom Hearts, but without the FF characters, and entirely different gameplay, and… ok, it’s completely different, but it still looks good. I might actually get this.

  • Razzlero
