In A Game Center Far, Far Away…

Game Center CX is where all the retro people come to play. The series comes from a TV series in Japan where they sit a man down to play those brutally difficult old-school games and film him doing so. For the hell of it. And above, we get to see what some of the many games packed into Game Center CX: Arino in District 3, a game based on the TV show character, will be like.

All of them have some form of root within classic video games, like the original Mario Bros. meets Lode Runner style game where you’re a cleaning witch, Star Soldier-esque shooter and others. Each game also has some form of twist to it. Wing Hero, the above screenshot’s plucky airplane side-scroller, requires you to blow into the mic to shoot, for instance.

These don’t necessarily look like they’d take a lot to localize, but you gotta remember that the “main plot” points of helping Arino recover his memories might be the sticking point. Well, that and the first title didn’t do so well, which is a crime somewhere, I’m sure.

Game Center CX: Arino in District 3 has been delayed till March 20th. The game will be available for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan.

If only people outside Japan bought the first one, we would now be playing the second game and this third game coming out.

I did. I own so many XSEED games.

That was an amazing teaser to watch. I kept on gasping at everything I assumed was a reference, even ones that probably weren’t intended, given the demographics of the target audience (eg, I felt there was at least two “Joust” references near the end of the first game).

So glad I’m importing a Japanese 3DS. I’m definitely getting a copy of this.

I saw a bit of Adventure Island in there.

The fact that we never got the second game, and that the chances for this one are pretty slim too is a real shame. The first game was incredible.

    Someone save this series! Please!!
