In Sega’s latest Yakuza Restoration video, producer Masayoshi Yokoyama shows us some of the main differences between the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions of the game.
Yokoyama starts out by briefly explaining the meaning of “fps” (frames-per-second), and how the PlayStation 4’s version of Yakuza Restoration will run at 60fps compared to the PlayStation 3’s 30fps. The actual comparisons start at the 4:30 mark of the video.
We first get a look at the detailed kanji characters and shadows in the PS4 version compared to the slightly blurry ones seen on the PS3’s side on the left part of the screen.
Yokoyama also points out that the details in Sakamoto Ryoma’s clothing is also apparent when observed side-by-side. While they may have a difference in details, the producer points out that they’re made from the exact same models, with the PS4 being able to show that much more.
At 7:00, we get a comparison look at some of the movement details, starting with Ryoma walking down the streets of Kyoto, then a few battle sequences. While they may look a little different, Yokoyama reassures that both versions will have the exact same content, so the only difference will be quality.
One thing to keep in mind is that videos on Youtube appear as 30fps, so this video doesn’t exactly show the full difference, according to Yokoyama, as he says that the only way to truly check for yourself is by having both versions on separate TVs in front of you.
At the 10:05 mark of the video, we get to see a comparison of an event scene. As you may have noticed, there doesn’t seem to be any differences between the two. Yokoyama explains that the reason being is that the PS3 has always excelled in quality when it comes to cut-scenes, so the difference is very minimal, apart from minor details.
Yokoyama concludes by saying that the purpose of the comparison is to show that those who wish to play on PS3 won’t be missing out on much in terms of content, while showing those who wish to enjoy higher quality exactly what they can expect to from the PS4 version of the game, with the main differences being noticeable during action and movements.
Yakuza Restoration will be coming out on February 22, 2014, for PlayStation 3 and 4.
