Like Bravely Default, Bravely Second Will Have A Subtitle

By Ishaan . January 24, 2014 . 9:29am

Back in December, we translated an interview in Famitsu magazine with Bravely Second producer Tomoya Asano and character designer Akihiko Yoshida. In the interview, Yoshida and Asano discussed the improvements being made to the game and how it was progressing.

In the same interview, which is now up on, Asano also mentioned another little tidbit about Bravely Second—that the game will have a subtitle as part of its final name.

The previous game in the series, Bravely Default, used the subtitle of “Flying Fairy” in Japan, which was a reference to various aspects of the game. While the updated version of that game, Bravely Default: For the Sequel, didn’t have a similarly meaningful subtitle, Asano feels that taking the same approach with Bravely Second would disappoint fans.

And so, Bravely Second, like the first game, will also use a subtitle with some sort of hidden meaning. The game is currently in development for Nintendo 3DS.

You know, since this is a sequel, will we be getting new classes as well?

    • Neophoton

There was a Dengeki poll on most wanted classes last month. Most I remember was most voted class was Gunner, albeit it’s already in Praying Brage as a military lolita design, but they’ll probably bring it over in B2nd.

      • Samsara09

I can’t think or anything more.Bravely default has so many awesome jobs.Well,GUNNER like you said…maybe I should inspire myself on X-2/V..let’s see…GAMBLER.Yes,BERSERKER.BARD.GEOMANCER.
What do you think?Quite some good jobs.Bard well, there is performer.

    • TheRealMalek

      My guess ? Adventurer

  • Adrián Alucard

The subtitle is a hidden spoiler in the fist BD (well, both subtitles, “Flying Fairy” and “Where the Fairy Flies”) I hope they do something similar with BS

    • Shippoyasha

Bravely Second has a really unfortunate abbreviation. What BS.

      • surakian

That is why they call it B2nd lol

    • natchu96

I still think that subtitle was pure genius.

    • Notquitesure?

Knowing me i’ll try and figure out the secret meaning behind the subtitle for BRAVELY SECOND, “where the fairy flies,” was so well done.

  • XiaomuArisu

    That arrogant smirk~

    • TheGioG

I love my ladies like I love my weapon choices: With a healthy hint of sharpness to ’em.

      • XiaomuArisu

I like them like my whiskey….no wait…that joke is NSFW~

  • BlueTree

The literal meaning of “For the Sequel” still amuses me.

  • 하세요

I just finish For The Sequel, like 10 minutes ago. After seeing the true ending + extra scene, I’m very hyped for Bravely Second. I hope it has an English option again, but I can wait if it doesn’t.

    • TheRealMalek

Seeing that he sold well in some countries of europe (has been sold out for some time…), my hopes are quite high :D

  • James Enk

enjoying the hell out of BD and i am already exited about the sequel:) i want to see more from Luxendarc

  • Unfortunately, after the rather neat thing they did with the subtitle in the first game, it’s probably going to be far too easy for people to spoil themselves if they repeat it..

Massively looking forward to BS after the ‘hidden’ movie. The main character looks to be really entertaining, especially if she has more lines like in the movie.

Also hoping in the sequel they give you more ability points. Felt like your points were mostly used up by some select ‘must have’ abilities.

  • mojack411

I can’t wait to discover the hidden meaning of “Flying Fairy” when I get my hands on the game in a few weeks!

    • Notquitesure?

When you see it, you know it’s very well done.

  • I’m sad we lost the subtitle too, but I am curious if they tried to make the Western one at all story relevant (seems it, being so wordy and all).

    • TheRealMalek

      it is :D

  • Neophoton

I do recall they mentioned B2nd isn’t the final title of the game, hoping for some actual new info soon.

Also going by a NG+ message in BDFS that implies we can carry our data over to B2nd, albeit something tells me it’s costumes-only that will be carried over.

  • Junko Enoshima

Isn’t pointing out that the subtitle has a spoiler kind of a spoiler within itself?

    • SMT

It’s okay, it’s kind of hard to realize what the spoiler is until it hits you in the face. But it’s really big, so be careful not to step into discussions about the subtitle.

  • riceisnice

I hope it doesn’t spoil the entire plot when I accidentally find out.

    • makubexnas

Bravely second : Saving The World Again….

  • Aaron K Stone

Great now he’s said that when the game comes out people will manage to find out a spoiler within a matter of minutes

  • Anesia Hunter

the question is though… will this game get censored too if and when localized?

  • Ren Yuumei

    Magnolia is hot

      Bravely Second: Magnolia is Hot.
      it’s decided!

      • Bigabu Beaze

        whats the hidden message?

        • Zero_Destiny

Magnolia is sick with a fever.

          • Bigabu Beaze

Oh no! Do you starve a cold and feed a fever?

        • Eric Cramer

agnolia s ot. Nope, that can’t be it.

  • Samsara09

Well, the won’t be pulling the Flying Fairy again. They will most likely use an amagram.

  • Solace

That subtitle reveal floored me when I saw it. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I mean, it wasn’t information I didn’t already know by the time I saw it, but it was such an “a-ha” kind of moment. I had thought the subtitle was a not-so-subtle way of interjecting “FF” into the acronym. It was so much more brilliant than that.

But now that I know they’ll be keeping the tradition, I’m going to start the next game trying to reinterpret the subtitle and probably spoil something for myself XD
