Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day Coming To The West Via Namco Bandai

Namco Bandai are bringing Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day to the west via PlayStation Network. The western release is titled Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day.

The game is the fifth story in a series of four short stories called Short Peace, directed by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo. While the first four stories are animated shorts, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day is a game.

It’s been designed by No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda and Tokyo Jungle director Yohei Kataoka, and is a colourful, fast-paced action game. You can watch a Japanese trailer for it above, and read a short story summary below, provided by Namco.

High school girl by day, assassin by night. The perfect setup for this frantic side-scroller directed by Suda 51 of Grasshopper fame. This PS3 exclusive follows the story of the titular Ranko Tsukigime as she evades the clutches of a shadowy power that’s clawing at her heels.

Each level is a race to outrun Ranko’s enemies while also dodging obstacles and defeating baddies who get in her way. Fall behind, and Ranko will be swallowed up by darkness before beginning the level anew.

Longest Day is an explosion of movement and color, where players never rest in their mad dash from one side of the stage to the other. Slashing through enemies will unleash debris that in turn can defeat other opponents. Longest Day caters to gamers who obsess over perfecting their run through a level, eliminating every superfluous jump and missed attack.

Clearing missions will eventually unlock new costumes for Ranko, and unlockable art is scattered throughout the campaign.

Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day will be available this spring.

I usually don’t care for games like this, but this actually looks fun.

  • DemonShadowX

Gotta support my buddy Suda. Game looks really fun too, glad this is heading our way.

    • Last word on this is that the DS port was finished, but never released. Who knows if we’ll ever see it. :(

  • 하세요

Never heard of this series at all but depending on the price, it looks interesting.

  • YESSSSS. Glad we didn’t have to wait too long for this. Now, has any anime distributor licensed the Short Peace film anthology? I loved Memories.

  • Go2hell66

    didn’t see this coming, awesome

Nice to see this localized in English. I wonder what’s the reception for this game in Japan.

The designs looked cool and the game looked unique but I wonder if the gameplay is fun.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Looks really awesome, but I’m a little afraid of all the rainbow effects. Not sure if my eyes can take it all. ˇˇ’

  • Yan Zhao

Interesting. Hopefully the first 4 episodes are subbed at least so I can understand whats going on.

  • I’m looking forward to it.

  • SirRichard

And I put in the AmiAmi payment for it just a few hours ago and everything. Still, good to see it being given a shot.

  • DivinePhoenix69

Niiice! I didn’t think this would have been localized but glad i was proven wrong, really looking forward to this one.

  • Sentsuizan_93

Woah. Never expected that to happen. Thanks Namco!

  • idrawrobots

    That is an intense video.

  • Freud_Hater

Huh. Might check it out if the voice cast is good. I like the main character’s design :3

  • Scipio

You know, not to be rude to the guy, I love his games, but how does Suda do it? I figured this was never coming over but somehow his games always seem to cross the waters, regardless of how much they might sell.

He must be some sort of wizard.

    • Warboss Aohd

Madness is the magic that let’s one do the impossible.

    • Göran Isacson

Brand name recognition, it’s the only thing I can think of.

  • JonathanisPrimus

This sold 2000 copies in Japan, gets localized.
God Eater 2 sells 600,000 copies in Japan, doesn’t get localized.

    Well, okay.

    • DivinePhoenix69

Im pretty positive that God Eater 2 is coming, they might be waiting for the “Burst” version to release to bring it over(though iirc some people consider the latest patch to be the updated version).

    • Renaldi Saputra

Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode now sold 80k.. hasn’t got localized too

  • AkiraScare

    THe Colors!!! Has Hypnoticed me…

  • Kornelious

Awesome, was wondering about this, and am glad it’s coming over. I Will buy :)

  • Meh on digital only.

I was always hoping the entire project would get released here, but digital only really hurts. I might be used to digital-only games, but digital-only anime? I’m not about to get used to that. PSN isn’t going to be around forever.

  • Göran Isacson

A runner with a lot of pop-art cut ins and Suda story.

Welp, I downloaded and liked Liberation Maiden well enough. Maybe this will be as entertaining as that!

  • Anthony Birken

“High school girl by day, assassin by night.” -Kill Me Baby~ (somewhat)

  • Oltheros

    Love that character design/artwork…
