Forbidden Magna Gets Its First Screenshots, And It Looks Cute

By Ishaan . February 12, 2014 . 8:25am

Famitsu have released the first screenshots of Forbidden Magna, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS strategy RPG from the developers of Rune Factory. Details on the game can be found in our previous report on it.

Forbidden Magna’s battle system is reminiscent of Valkyria Chronicles, in that your characters will not be locked to a grid.

Outside battle, you’ll run an inn with the help of a number of female companions in the game, and you’ll be able to improve your relationship levels with them in order to improve their abilities during battle. Three of these companions, who are supposedly spirits of some sort, have been revealed so far. That’s them below.

Left to right: Charlotte, Beatrice and Diana.

Forbidden Magna is currently 50% through development. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will be released sometime in 2014.

    3D models style is definitely… lovely…
    But background sure are nice.
Really want that game. And more news
Also, it still doesn’t look like a SRPG to me. More like a Rune Factory

Most likely, you will be able to move people with action points, and attack a certain amount as well. When you move your person, the next character(or enemy) gets to move.

      • Thatguy

Make sense. Only now managed to see AP on screenshot.

  • Zer0faith

    Gotta love that anime style.

  • ronin4life

In games like this with “Dating” elements, the story always makes it seem like you have to go along with the first Partner option…

Also, I feel this will follow traditional Harvest Moon cycle: There will be a sequel that allows for choice of gender.

    • Kai2591

      I get what you mean.
They should make it so that, say, the first girl you see isn’t fixed but depends entirely on your actions and which path you take or something.

    • neocatzon

Following Harvest Moon and RF pattern there’s no first girl. If they do that for years, this one might not an exception.

    • Audie Bakerson

Wonder what the other character labeled “ルクス” and “主人公” in the first scan was if not a female Lux then.

      • JustThisOne

I think it was his innkeeper uniform. xD It’s the same dude.

  • So… the three girls’ names have the initials B, C and D? Is that a coincidence, or can we expect E and F and stuff down the line?

  • neocatzon

Ishaan, wrong tag. Why is it Forbidden Manga?

    • ronin4life

Because some Manga was just never meant to be seen by Human Eyes…

      • Kai2591

        so true…so, so true…

    • Damn it. We managed to catch that before the post went up every single time before this. Had to happen eventually, I suppose.

  • Yuuki

    dont get hyped…..

    • Fair point, but I’m at least hopeful enough, if only because I find Neverland Co. to be pretty keen and efficient in streamlining the systems in their recent games (which is to say, the Rune Factory games) – even if the graphics tend to be a tad on the crude side.

  • TheExile285

I’m liking what I see from this

  • mojack411

Why is it that hardly any concrete details have been revealed about this game and I’ve never played a Rune Factory game before yet I already want this game really badly?

  • Kai2591

On one hand, I like the 2D character designs.
On the other hand, I’m a bit disappointed they’re chibi when in 3D.

Was expecting proportionate body in 3D and doing VC’s BLITZ-like battles.

  • malek86

There seems to be a touch of cel-shading in there. Either way, the black lines are somewhat distracting.

    • I love those; they give the visuals the looks of a colored Manga page.

      • I love it too, tho, nothing has been like my fav style, of WA3 :D, its like a painting

      • malek86

I would too, but with the low resolution of the 3DS, they are probably gonna be either too thick or too thin. Not an ideal implementation.

        • why so negative, what happened to that always happy shiny full of hope malek i knew?!

  • Now if only we can date/marry the girls like in RF or HM….

    • Greg

What’s HM? And don’t forget about Conception II.

      • JMaster3000

Harvest Moon? Uhhh;.. kinda weird that you know RF but don’t know HM…. RF is spinoff of HM.

        • Greg

Really? I know Rune Factory is a spin off of Harvest Moon but I didn’t know both had the dating-sim features since I only recently heard that Rune Factory did.

          • It’s an essential part of Harvest Moon~.

  • Kornelious

It;s 50% done/ And coming out this year!? Well that was fast :O

  • *Crosses fingers*

  • Shippoyasha

Lovely looking game but I really wished they had less of a chibi look on the field because the character costumes could be shown off more with ingame modeling. But it’s just a slight peeve of mine and nothing game breaking.

But it really does look adorable.

  • Best girl is Diana of all :3

  • AkiraScare

Overseas will probably get it in…. 2+yrs (TT_TT)

  • Greg

I’m loving what I’m hearing, and seeing :D

  • Wow, this game is so sold =^_^=

  • Well this doesn’t look so bad :)

  • Genjo

Meh any girl would be fine as long she can cook and fight including be great shape for after hours in bed wise xD

  • piichan

guh, it looks good but i’m not a fan of the chibi style. will still get it tho.

  • Looks cute.

  • resuri

Looks cute… I might consider getting this game if it gets localized.

  • Aristides

Why in the world did I get the impression this was a Vita game on earlier reports? X_X. Oh well still buying it :P
