Sega Genesis RPG Pier Solar HD Could Come To Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . February 19, 2014 . 5:00pm

Pier Solar HD, a remake of a Sega Genesis RPG released in 2010, is currently in development for multiple platforms and is planned for release this Spring. Eventually, developer Watermelon say, the game could end up on Nintendo 3DS as well.

Speaking with Nintendo Enthusiast, Watermelon president Tulio Goncalves discussed Pier Solar HD’s second-screen features on Wii U.

“On Wii U, we’re definitely putting the second screen to good use, a feature that will be exclusive of that platform,” Goncalves said. He added: “Well, maybe not for long if we end up making it to the 3DS, but that’s for later.”

Pier Solar HD is tentatively planned for release on Wii U in April. The game is also in development for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Android, Ouya and Sega Dreamcast.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        and gamecube

    • These guys released a game for the Genesis in 2010, and the Dreamcast part is what surprises you?

    • pimpalicious

It’s been getting games. You should check out Gunlord and Sturmwind.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

Gunlord is amazing, its like contra, and Metroid

        • pimpalicious

It’s more like the Turrican series(which is like a cross of Contra and Metroid lol)

    • Jeffrey Thrash

Maybe they are targeting both generations of SEGA fans. For instance, I didn’t grow up on the Genesis, but I definitely want to pull out my old DreamCast again.

  • Earthjolly

Getting it for my Dreamcast, hell yup

    • BizarreJelly

      I miss my Dreamcast…

    • SprintsMcGee

But I wanted it for my Genesis D=

      • You can already get it for Genesis, check ebay. Read the prices. Then cry.

    • Tiredman

Same here. I kickstarted it for dreamcast, and buying the Wii U version to play in HD.

  • BizarreJelly

I’d completely forgot I pledged to this, thanks for the reminder! But yeah, why not add 3DS – they’re pretty much releasing it for everything.

  • Kaetsu

I will definitely pick this up on Wii U!

  • Shane Guidaboni

I hope that’s not the only walking speed, because that’s way too slow. Otherwise, I would snatch this up on my 3DS.

  • MrRobbyM

Available on pretty much anything that has a power cord. Next year it’ll be available for all electronic kitchen appliances and portable CD players.

  • Tyler Beale

There’s 2 platforms that seem to be missing from that list….iOS and Vita. I’d buy it if it was for the latter.

    • Aristides

Why would anyone down vote this 0-o

  • 3PointDecoupage

Seriously? A trailer for an RPG and you dont show the battle system?

    • There’s more to gameplay than combat you know, ESPECIALLY in an RPG

      • Maddok

Not really, not in a classic JRPG like this. The gameplay is generally a 50/50 split between exploration and combat, and outside of that this genre typically relies on the story to keep the player engaged.

  • ishyg

    No Vita?!

  • Göran Isacson

Man, I want this game based solely on that song in the trailer. I just got… so many happy, warm and fuzzy feels. Kind of Magical Starsign-esque, in a way? Think I’d definitely keep the pixel art though, massive nostalgia feels from that look.

  • An RPG trailer that has the AUDACITY to not even show me anything about the battle system?! Blargh!

  • D. Collins

It puts a smile on my face to see the Dreamcast still getting games.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Some homebrew games for dead Systems needs to get more popularity. Some are just hidden master pieces
