Konami Code Unlocks Bravely Second Trailer Within Bravely Default

By Ishaan . February 26, 2014 . 11:47pm

As previously reported, Bravely Default has a teaser movie for the game’s sequel, Bravely Second, hidden within it. The movie features Second’s protagonist, Magnolia, rescuing a certain Default character from captivity.

Normally, the teaser movie is unlocked by completing the game, but YouTube user Shmiam (via: GoNintendo) reports that you can also unlock it by using the Konami Code on the game’s main menu.

Watch the video above to see how it’s done. Note that the movie contains mild spoilers for the fate of one of Bravely Default’s characters, although it doesn’t tell you how they ended up in that situation.

Despite the more action-oriented feel of the teaser movie, Bravely Second will still be a turn-based game. Producer Tomoya Asano confirmed this in a recent talk with Siliconera.

I’m glad they are keeping it turn based. I hope they keep the “classic” (but with a twist) JRPG mechanic as a marketing device with this franchise.

About the trailer, the only thing that annoyed me about it was having to use the gyro mechanic to watch it. Other than that, it is one of the better debut trailers I’ve ever seen for a game.

    • Solace

Heh, I forgot so entirely about how the gyro video thing worked that I spent most of the scene staring out the first little window and missing all the action. It took me until at least halfway through the fight to remember I could turn the camera XD

The only thing that annoyed me was that she used Bravely Second, so new she canonically used Bravely Second, and i hate Bravely Second for it’s cheapness, ergo i hate her for being cheap.

    Wait… did she say ba’al buster?? Ahaha…

  • natchu96

What has happened to the gaming world where people don’t immediately attempt the Konami Code in every possible situation?

    • dragoon_slayer12

Just just gaming. Non gaming related websites have weird effects upon entering the code. ESPN for instance.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Personally, I think it’s entirely reasonable not to attempt to use the Konami Code in a…you know….non-Konami game.

  • Confirmed working in PAL Region games.

  • Jormangund

Having seen it myself, what I really find cool is how the turn-based system of the gameplay is actually reflected in the fight scene of the teaser, even if everyone’s pretty much moving around like all hell… kinda reminds me of FF12, really.

  • Michael Richardson

This is really cool. I loved the gyroscopic controls and seeing the game’s battle system from an outside perspective.

  • Zetayuri

Will watching the trailer spoil anything from the first game?

    • Michael Richardson

You find out something bad happens to one of the characters. You don’t know exactly what or why it is happening. Not much of a spoiler, really.

      • AJ

I just assume that all epic quests end with bad things happening. I have Scouring of the Shire Syndrome.

  • Vanadise

You know, I have to say that despite only being a trailer, this is probably the best use of the 3DS’ gyro I’ve ever seen. Pretty cool.

Resident Evil: Revelations’ aiming system? Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir’s and the ghost battles?

    • kylehyde

As a left handed player that never buy the circlepad pro I have to say that Resident Evil: “Revelaitons” (I buy the first edition) has the crown about the best use of gyro. Also for some strange reason I almost never lost the 3D effect.

  • Raltrios

Heard about this on Gfaqs the other day. Surprised it warranted being an article on here.

  • Skeptika Crediblus

Oh God….. does Lightning show up?

  • Anthony Birken

An arrow just stabbed my heart when I finished watching that video and saw a youtube releated spoiler unintentionally….I must forget…

  • Jesse

It seems that voice clip pops up after doing the code even if the video was already unlocked. =o

  • FlobotingIt

So… Does that mean this is more likely to come to America then?

  • Hopefully the final chapters of Bravely Second aren’t as awful as in Bravely Default.
