One Piece Unlimited World: RED Coming Westward On 3DS, Wii U, PS3 And Vita [Update]

By Ishaan . March 12, 2014 . 9:20am

One Piece Unlimited World: RED will be released in Europe and Australia in 2014, Namco Bandai announced this morning.

Update: The game will also be released in America. 3DS and PS3 will get the game at retail, while Wii U and Vita will see a digital release.

Here’s the interesting part—Unlimited World: RED was a Nintendo 3DS game in Japan, but in the West, the game will be available for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

As detailed in our past coverage of the game, One Piece Unlimited World: RED is a multiplayer action game that involves hunting and gathering, fighting large monsters, as well as rebuilding the town that serves as your base of operations.

    No doubt I’m getting this

Question… Will it spoil the anime? Because im very far behind

    • Jesse

Since I see parts from past the timeskip, I’d say yes(I don’t know where you left off, though).

      • DanielGearSolid

Don’t even know what the timeskip is lol…

I just finished the Nico Robin vs world govt arc

        • Jesse

          …crap. ^^; Well, I didn’t mention any important details, at least. XD;

          • DanielGearSolid

Honestly even its spoiled its worth watching Its just that good!

My dream would be ovas for every story arc up to now so I can catch up. (unless they already have that)

          • BlakShiranui

You can just catch up to 600+ episodes of the anime and you’ll be good.

          • Revorse

            Any filler?

          • BlakShiranui

IIRC it’s pretty faithful to the manga and there isn’t a ton of filler compared to something like Naruto.

          • James Williams

No there’s a lot of filler in OP’s anime still, i’d honestly just read the manga instead, you’d be done twice as fast.

          • Aaronrules380

There’s a ton of filler, it’s just mixed in with the canon stuff more often than segregated to their own arcs. I almost prefer filler arcs to be honest, because then the canon stuff isn’t dragged out so much by the need for a 1 episode to 1 chapter pacing

    • Namuro

Even though the game will be using an original story, but it will borrow a lot of elements, like the characters, and places from the main story.

So yeah… you’ll get spoiled quite a bit.

Just try to catch up with the manga before the game comes out!

  • Namuro

Well, that’s nice! It’s a good thing I haven’t bough the JP version, yet.

  • Leon_Tekashi

There’s only a matter of time until this comes over to NA as well.

    • zferolie

Can’t be too sure. This is a one piece game. Rare that it comes to NA.

      I hope it does though

      • Slayven19

No, they should be coming down because the anime airs in the U.S now. For a long time the anime had stopped which meant there was no real reason to bring out the games.

      • subsamuel01

The previous 3 One Piece games came to North America.

  • TheExile285

Wow, this is unexpected. Hopefully they bring all these versions to NA.

  • Kaien

    Yeah! It’s coming on console/handheld I own!

Should I expect Girls und Panzer too? (sarcasm)

EDIT: oh, wow! A WiiU game!

  • Zer0faith

I was worried about the lack of an NA release but then I noticed that Vita was included there so if worst comes to worst there’s always importing.

  • Kaetsu

This game looks really cool however I’ve never seen the anime or have read the manga. Would I still understand what’s going on? Also I’d have to wait for an NA release.

    • Cravia887

I recommend reading the manga and watching the show it is one of my favorites.

      • Kaetsu

        I’ll give it a shot.

        • Kazekage Gaara

Beware though…..its long and getting through it will be HELL if you don’t have patience.

  • mynameisdats

    Vita!

  • subsamuel01

Yes! At least its PS3 so I can import this.

  • Nas

You can count my support on the Vita.

    Edit: Some more info:
Europe will be getting retail versions of Unlimited World Red on PS3, PS Vita, 3DS, and Wii U.

    • MaximDualBlade

The update says vita and wiiu will get digital only. Are you sure?

Edit: Sorry I misread the article

      • Nas

That update is for the US.
Europe will be getting retail version as we’ll as digital.

        • MaximDualBlade

I misread. Oh boy I’m excited now! Retail for all systems is how the world turns arounds better :)

          • subsamuel01

Retail in North America is only for the 3DS and PS3 versions, Wii U and Vita are digital only. Europe has retail for all.

    • British_Otaku

Almost definitely getting the Wii U version then, now we have to wait and see whether the DLC is there for us or whether we will be charged for money reasons.

  • Learii

is this game follow the anime or no?

    • British_Otaku

Nope, it creates a new setting, an excuse for clones of foes and friends (including the crew) to fight them and cloned versions of familiar environments from the story to push a new story with a Level 6 escapee.

If you haven’t caught up, this isn’t going to help you get the whole story but you might enjoy it anyway.

      • Learii

        ok thx

  • Slayven19

I’ve known about this trailer for about 4 days. However the video was hidden so I didn’t want to share it or anything to risk my youtube account getting banned.

  • http://youtube.com/user/Chubunater Chubunato

USA gotta get this even if it just the semi-slow combat 3ds version we just gonna get it.

    • Zangetsu777

we are getting it on every console as well. They updated this article.

      • http://youtube.com/user/Chubunater Chubunato

That’s great! Digital only for wii u is kind of a bummer but hey at least the Wii U gets something. 。◕‿‿◕。

  • Malon

Digital release for Vita and Wii U in Europe as well as in America ? I really wanted this game on my Vita, but I don’t have any space left (Atelier Totori and Meruru, plus FFX-2 HD in a few days…) and I don’t want to buy another one since they are expensive as hell.
I’ll pass if it’s a digital release in Europe as well for memory-sticky-reasons. Damn.

    • Kazekage Gaara

If you are in the NA buy a European copy since they are getting all the versions at retail and the Vita isnt region locked.

      • Malon

I do live in Europe, that’s why I wanted to know and the article got me confused.
But it seems we aren’t going to have any version going digital at all.

  • Zangetsu777

Definitely a must buy for PS3 and PSVITA

  • Martin Davis

It was just announced for NA. The PR is mostly the same with this exception:

ONE PIECE Unlimited World Red is scheduled for a physical and
digital release for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS, and a
digital-only release for the PlayStation Vita and Wii U in 2014.

  • Zoozbuh

Oooh this is interesting. Not because I’m a fan of One Piece, but they don’t usually convert a game to multi-platform when localising it into English. I’d be curious how the sales turn out, and if they consider doing something like this for other games :)

  • Ace Trainer Chris

I really don’t understand why Bamco hates releasing physical copies of games in the west on Vita. Memory cards are ridiculously expensive and having to not only do installs to games, but also plenty of newer ones being digital-only makes it difficult due to space issues.

    • kthanxyousuck

Because they don’t think it’s worth a physical release because it hasn’t sold enough. Same reason why they aren’t doing physical for Wii U.

  • NeptuniasBeard

I hope they dub this one, especially if it’s coming to US. Either way, game looks interesting

    • Slayven19

Yes it will be dubbed, anime games in the west have to be dubbed if the anime is on-going on cartoon network.

      • NeptuniasBeard

Not necessarily. Romance Dawn just released, and from what I recall, it was Japanese VA only

        • Slayven19

It was also 3ds, this has a ps3 and vita version and I don’t think they can get away with not dubbing that, especially with how the scope of the game is. Not to mention that they probably knew that game wouldn’t be a hit since its a port of a psp title. But point taken, I still think this will be dubbed since its on multiple systems counting the ps3.

          • kthanxyousuck

Agreed, Romance Dawn was also somewhat of a limited physical release with it only being available at Gamestop.

  • CozyAndWarm

Definitely Wii U for me (why no retail version, Namco?). I’d heard the game was made for a younger audience and the difficulty level’s a tad low, but it looks fun regardless.

    • British_Otaku

I disagree. I wouldn’t call it “difficult” but the game can be pretty savage when you go out on quests with how much damage enemies do (Kizaru and Dinosaurs are monsters) and how poorly the dodge system stacks into the experience at times.

I tend to have Chopper in my team so I can bide for time and heal even if I have stronger characters or want to give someone else a go.

  • MikelAL93

A retail release for a One Piece game on PS3 in the U.S.? Instant preorder. :)

  • Kornelious

So there not only localizing it, but are releasing it for systems it was never on? And why Make the 3ds and PS3 physical, but the Vita and Wii U digital? This is quite an interesting announcement….

    • 3PointDecoupage

      Successful systems> nonsuccessful systems.

      • J_Joestar

yeah, clearly shows which consoles they have faith in and which they don’t.

        • Slayven19

But this is namco and they aren’t about wasting money. I really can’t blame them lol.

          • J_Joestar

of course, the business reasoning behind it is evident, if anything we should be very grateful that they are getting ports of the game as well.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Holy shit I need this now!

  • fairysun

This is probably the One Piece game that I wait for 3DS.

  • subsamuel01

I wanted to get this on the Wii U seeing is how there’s barely anything to play on it but its digital only so I think I’ll get the retail version for the PS3.

  • Anewme…Again

This is the first One piece game i’m interested in buying.
I will get the PS3 version because of trophy and physical.
I’m not much of a trophy hunter, but that’s still a plus imo.

  • MaximDualBlade

A 3DS game on all those platforms? Will they have a graphic overhaul?

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

      Wii U will

  • Prinny Dood

Vita version for me dood! But i do hope the visuals are better dood!

  • Combo

Sweet Jesus, I would’ve expected a 3DS game ported to consoles to look rather bad, but this looks amazing. Way better than One Piece Musou, at least.

  • MaximDualBlade

Retail on Vita :O Does anyone know if the game has touchscreen features? My vita’s screen is damaged so, touch games can be hard on my heart rate XD(I’m serious)

    • British_Otaku

It is only on the 3DS so far in Japan and it didn’t use the touch screen at any point when a D-Pad/Analog Stick and button wouldn’t… No come think of it, the 3DS version used the touch screen for a map, quick item use and management and turning the camera. Camera (analog stick) aside you will have heart problems.

      • MaximDualBlade

thank you for your reply. It seems I will be able to play the game.

  • ragingmerifes

Will get Vita version. Would be nice if there was cross-save features.

  • Tristan Taylor

Hmm if they’re are bringing it to Wii U, PS3..I wonder if the quality/gameplay will take a hit since its coming from a 3ds game, either way this is great news!

  • ZetaSiren

    Yaaaaaaaay

  • kylehyde

3ds version for me, but is good to see that more people are going to joy to the fun.

  • James Enk

which one is the best version? 3DS or WiiU?

    • Kaetsu

Wii U version isn’t out yet.

    • kthanxyousuck

This game only existed as a 3DS game and will be ported I assume to others so, I’d stick with the original.

  • AlteisenX

I’ll possibly pick it up later but I hate supporting Bandai’s business decisions… I don’t mind that its only digital, but the fact that its a multi-platform game that splits between digital and physical is what bugs me. lol.

    • AlteisenX

      …I win for breaking comments…

    • kthanxyousuck

It is kind of a weird thing to do. Seems like they decided poor vita and Wii U sales weren’t worth a physical release.

  • Eder García

WiiU digital only? still Wiiu is getting games, that’s what the console needs

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Of course Wii U will get a version.
They are the developer who work with Nintendo on Pandora’s Tower.

      • Kaetsu

And they co-developed Wii Fit U so they know how to use the platform.

  • Kaien

Vita/WiiU are DD only in USA or WW?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Probably in the West as a whole seeing as how neither are selling too well to warrant retail versions~.

  • Nanaki

    YES!!!!!
My heart won’t stop beating….Too much! PS3 version for me.

  • chibiwall

    What about Vita EU?

    • Tousand

it will be there in retail and digital form. and i will definitely get the retail. :D

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

According to the article, PSV and Wii U only get digital versions~.

        • Tousand

also. according to the newest news concerning this game that is for NORTH AMERICA. the vita EU will get both. and that’s what he is asking i suppose. :D
          so. yay !

          • chibiwall

            that’s a great news

  • Herok♞

Well at least its still physical on 3DS, I will get my copy there since it is the original version, but it is interesting to see it get released on more consoles

  • Cravia887

I will download it for Wii U and then probably import the Euro version as a collectible.

  • Kayseur

I’m not a fan of One Piece (must’ve been a couple of years since I last read it/saw an ep from it) but I might get this on Vita. I’m really surprised they didn’t forget this system, coming from Bamco. So I guess I kind of want to support it, especially since we’re getting a box release in EU.

  • asc kurosaki

glad the ps3 north american version gets it at retail

  • kthanxyousuck

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this game and I just started watching the anime on Adult Swim so I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.

  • Spirit Macardi

Bring it to the US, get the Funimation cast to do an English voice track for it, and I’ll gladly buy it. Or if you don’t want to do an English voice track, then at least reduce the price enough to justify its exclusion.

I have the feeling none of those stipulations will be met though…

    • British_Otaku

At retail or digitally, few publishers have the guts to admit that some games cost less than others to develop or put on shelves by pricing them lower. The closest we get to that are Steam Sales, Humble Bundles and other PC centric sales when the game has already been through the weeks or months of hype where it can sell for $60+.

  • Suicunesol

I’ll bet this was Bando Namcai’s plan all along. I’ll bet it was designed to be brought to other systems eventually, as was the case for the MH games. Japan will probably get the PS3, Vita and Wii U versions soon after, if not at the same time we get them. We’re just getting them first.

  • Ren Yuumei

I wonder about the 3ds gameplay

    • British_Otaku

Do you want any answers on how it works? I imported it months ago.

      • Ren Yuumei

Thats ok dude i didnt know it was out all this time, i’ll just look up a video.

    • kthanxyousuck

What do you wonder about? Search youtube videos. This game has been out for months in Japan.

  • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

WOO HOO! I- Wii U, PS3 and Vita!? Ok, this is unexpected, but AWESOME! I can’t wait! ^_^

  • Muffum

I would’ve gotten it for Wii U in a heartbeat, but that digital-only thing is kind of dissuading me. I also have a 3DS and PS3, so I could get a physical release, but I’m still tempted to get it for Wii U.

    • Kaetsu

I’m fine with a digital release but I’m more concerned about the download size. Wii U games tend to have absurd sizes for some reason.

      • Cravia887

I connected my Wii U to a 500gb external hard drive, although I tend to only download eshop exclusive games. Otherwise I opt for a physical copy.

        • Kaetsu

I’ll connect an external hard drive to mine eventually. I’m just waiting for a good sale.

      • Silver Citizen

        It’s a port of a 3ds game. I doubt it’s THAT big.

        • Kaetsu

          Good point.

  • British_Otaku

Expected localisation but not a huge expansion of the platforms, here is hoping they add online support and otherwise make good use of the tech and time they have had/. Surprised there isn’t a OPUW:R Ultimate/G lined up for Japan.

Already finished most of the Japanese version and pretty disappointed with it in comparison to other Ganbarion games from a content and adventure experience standpoint , but I might get it for the Wii U/PS3 if they do a good job.

  • Capt. Smoker

    STRAWHAT!

  • http://bassoonhero.deviantart.com/ Michael Wootton

Freakishly stoked, thank you Namco Bandai for listening to fans and bringing this across to so many platforms. I’ll be buying it on launch for each one.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Wii-u and 3DS

  • Tousand

I WILL DEFINITELY BUY THIS! TO SUPPORT ONE PIECE GAME, SO THERE WILL BE MORE AND MORE TO COME. and in hope there will be one on the fighting genre that can be enjoyed as much as that of that ninja manga. xD

  • LittleMofreaky

Nice! A One Piece game for Wii U in NA! :D

  • DanielGearSolid

Yea so its looking like I’m never getting rid of my ps3

    • kthanxyousuck

At the moment I have no real reason to invest in a PS4…..

      • DanielGearSolid

Pretty much all of Jpn feels that way. Hopefully it doesn’t take devs as long, as it took ps3, to start pumping out some eastern games

  • Kazekage Gaara

So many games! Wallet too small D:

  • Uberwolfman

    One piece Monster Hunter?

    • British_Otaku

In a sense, all of the Unlimited series from 2007′s Unlimited Adventure till now have been touching on some MH element and given that this has multiplayer, that is another plus even if I think this game drops the ball in others.

  • mockturtle

    Are you Red…y for me?

  • SDDMN

Awesome! If the Wii U version is $60, I’ll get it for the 3DS.

  • leingod

I’m glad this is coming to the Vita… I’m still pissed we didn’t get One Piece Musou 2 in the states :/

  • kthanxyousuck

This hasn’t been mentioned yet but I wonder if the games will be released at different times on different consoles. I only ask because technically the 3DS version of this game is already complete and just needs translation.

  • TheExile285

Don’t forget how they didn’t localize Pirate Warriors 2 for Vita.

Still, I’m not going to complain about this :3

  • XiaomuArisu

PW2 existed for the Vita? Didnt knew. Well OPR looks like a OP hunting game, could be fun

  • Thatguy

Also, Shin Gundam Musou (DWG: Reborn) Vita version: KIA by Bamco

And i am sad, because it’s perfect on Vita

  • Bobby Jennings

Yeah it was released on Vita.

  • MikelAL93

    But only in Japan IIRC

  • Bobby Jennings

    Japan and Europe I believe.

  • Histirea

If Europe has the Vita version at retail, it can be imported for NA players. Thankfully, Sony isn’t stuck in the old ways of region locking like Nintendo is.

It’s not a particularly good option, but it’s the best we have.

  • Bobby Jennings

    Yeah.
