Super Smash Bros. Stage From Super Mario 3D Land Will Keep You On Your Toes

By Ishaan . March 18, 2014 . 1:56am

The Nintendo 3DS version of the new Super Smash Bros. game will contain a stage based on Super Mario 3D Land, director Masahiro Sakurai announced on Miiverse today. Sakurai noted the stage starts out by scrolling sideways.

He continued, using another screenshot, “Then you continue into the valley—it’s in 3D Land, after all. The protruding stone blocks change the angles of the platforms.”

“After that, back to side-scrolling,” Sakurai said. “Now it gets you moving—you’ll have to trot downhill here.”

“And finally, you get back on rails to go farther into the stage,” Sakurai explained, with one last screenshot. “It takes roughly two minutes to complete a lap, and at the end you go into a giant pipe that takes you back to the beginning.”

“I know this sequence goes above and beyond a traditional Pic of the Day, so consider this a little something extra on the side from me,” Sakurai concluded.

3DS exclusive content is kinda nice (for a non-competitive game). Is there Wii U exclusive stuff yet? I haven’t been keeping up with it.

    • Yoshinatsu

I think the concept is that the stages on the 3DS will only be from Nintendo’s portable games, while the stages on the Wii U will be from the home console games.

Which makes me sad cause I’d REALLY liked to see that Kid Icarus Uprising stage on the Wii U version.

Or the Mario Galaxy stage on 3DS. :S

  • In Melee, we had Rainbow Cruise. In Brawl, we had Mushroomy Kingdom. In the 3DS version, we’ll have this one. And we already know the Wii U version will have a Galaxy stage. Based on what we’ve seen and heard of those stages, I wonder how the Galaxy stage will work?

Zero gravity floating while fighting each other…

  • Notquitesure?

I never understood the appeal of these stages.

    • DeadLineDance

They’re probably big in Japan. /sarcasm

Keeps you on your toes while fighting. It’s a nice change from er mah gerd FD / BF all day every day.

But that’s just me, I cannot stand playing bland, flat stages all the time.

      • Scissors

My friend only plays flat stages with no items, I don’t even enjoy the game anymore. :(

  • anthony apduhan

Poor Megaman on the last pic :(

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Megaman bursting on the speed of light on the last pic lol.^_^

  • Anime10121

So… its basically like that old giant floating Pokemon stage from Brawl :P

    I can dig it!

    • 하세요

From Melee? Assuming you’re talking about PokeFloats.

      • Anime10121

Yeah, that one! My bad, got em mixed up!

    • PreyMantis

I think it’s more the Rainbow Cruise or Mushroomy Kingdom stage rather than PokéFloats.

  • Ben Sylvia

Been waiting to see more of this one. Looking forward to the music selection for this one.

  • … Welp, I think that’s the closest thing we’ll get of Megaman jumping platforms these days heh.

  • J_Joestar

would love to see it in action…
Maybe a stage preview trailer in the next direct please?

  • katamari damacy

Hated these types of levels in Smash. You ended up fighting the stage more than other people

    • s07195

At least they were few, and the few that existed were interesting. I love these stages, and they remind me of Kung Fu Chaos on the Xbox that I used to play at my friend’s place.
