Check Out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Game’s New Web-Swinging Mechanics

By Ishaan . March 27, 2014 . 12:31pm

Beenox have shared a developer walkthrough video of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game, featuring new footage from the upcoming title.

Creative director Thomas Wilson begins by demonstrating the game’s web-swinging system, whereby Spider-Man’s webbing attaches to actual buildings and objects, rather than an invisible point in mid-air. Additionally, Spider-Man’s arms are now mapped to the left and right triggers while swinging.

Wilson then demonstrates the game’s “Hero or Menace” system, which keeps tracks of your actions as Spider-Man. Wilson also hints at an increased number of costumes to use in the game, and says that these will offer more than just a cosmetic change.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be available on April 29th in North America and May 2nd in Europe for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

“Spider-Man’s arms are now mapped to the left and right triggers while swinging.”

Where does the web come out when you press them together? :>

  • Jungo

Webswinging looks solid, I’m looking forward to it.

  • This looks so good! And I’m not just saying that because Spidey is my favorite comic book hero. I actually liked the first game too, it just had a few problems like swinging (which was a deal breaker for a lot, but the system worked well enough imo) and limited number of crimes to stop was lame. Looks like they’re improving just about everything here. The one thing that struck me about these games is yeah, it’s totally ripping off Batman Arkham, but it’s in a way that actually makes sense. Spider-man’s powers are a perfect fit for the stealth mechanics and reaction-based combat that the Arkham games offer. So I guess have pretty high hopes for this one!

    Hey, people.

Is it normal that no comic hero-based game that’s not named Batman Arkham appeals to me?

Am I being this dudebro or something? Or is it that I still feel that “Game based off movie” effect dilemma disney movies-based games started? Why I keep feeling this from everything comic hero-related not named Batman Akrham? Maybe because of Rocksteady?

PS1 Spiderman 2 was good, btw.

  • Spidey you thrifty man you.

  • FlameEmperor

Whoa……. This is shaping up to be awesome.

  • The Watcher

This is how movie-game adaptations should be done. With quality and time. Haven’t played a good Superhero game since Spider Man 2 on PS2

    • Ebere Nnorom

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (only the first one though) was really fun and you could play with multiple people.
I’m personally tired of Spiderman games only from Marvel as a whole (yes I know Spiderman’s movie rights belong to Sony), I’d love to see a good Ironman or Captain America game, or even a good Avengers game personally.
Regardless this game walkthrough spiked my interest. Let’s hope it’s as good, if not better than the Spiderman 2 movie game. :)

    • TrueDefault

Web of shadow is my personal favourite Spiderman game, just after Ultimate spidey.

      • Spider-Man

You have excellent taste in Spider-Man games.

        • TrueDefault

          Thanks, Spidey!

          • Superior Spider-Man

            You’re welcome.

        • Superior Spider-Man

If there was a game about me, it would be Superior in every way!

          • Spider-Man

            You’d need a body first.

  • I still can’t help but feel that the animation for this game is lacking. I mean, that’s a common problem in games these days. The Batman: Arkham games have weird animation, too, but ASM1 was dreadful in terms of making Spider-Man look agile.

    • Bobby Jennings

      I see it too.

Still looks better than #1 at least.

    • Spider-Man

I agree, last Spidey game I played was Web of Shadows. I tried the later ones but they didn’t capture my essence.

  • Valtiel Ikari

I can the improvements right away!
the animation though do need some more adjustment, but seing how more stuff being upgraded and added, is ok.
Also, yay Amazing Spiderman 1 suit!

  • Kornelious

I’ll shall say it again, I love the changes and as long as Sam Riegal is still voicing Spider-Man, then this will be one of my few PS4 games :)

  • Makoto Yuki

Looks solid, but why is the graphic seem so pale ?

  • Ben Sylvia

Was the Vita version of the first game any good?
or just a crap port of the 3DS version?

That will determine if I’m sad at no Vita version of this one.

  • Spider-Man

All them nice costumes! Shame there’s no Ben Reilly costume, I miss my bro. But hey, still have Kaine.

    • Superior Spider-Man

The costume @2:29 is the Superior costume. It should be the main skin of the game.

  • Paul Rodriguez

My lack of interest in movies based on comic books (due to studios wiping their butts with the source material) really hinders my desire for these games, and makes me wish they would make a game that is not tied in with the film. Games like Ultimate Spider-Man, Shattered Dimensions, and Edge of Time were quite good.

  • Histirea

“New Web-Swinging Mechanics” got me extremely hopeful, and I was not disappointed. Spidey 2 on the PS2 had the best web-swinging mechanics in the series, and The Amazing Spider-Man was just atrocious. ASM2 seems to be fixing a lot of its flaws. (I wish the Web Rush wasn’t still so necessary.)

  • Christian Wright

I’m mad that there’s still texture loading issues on a next gen game. i guess it’s because spidey’s swinging so fast :|

  • This actually looks pretty good.

  • heartless141

annnnddd they didn’t make a new battle system. still trying to stick onto that batman’s one.

Spiderman 2 on PS2 was great
Web of Shadow was FRIKKIN GREAT!

    why use this one?

  • 27sanderrm .

Where the hell is the old school Scarlet Spider & Ben Reily Spider Suit?! Those were awesome!
