  • Syde Tokai

Maybe we can actually get a GOD DAMN RELEASE DATE. Pardon my French.

    • NeptuniasBeard

A release date would be awesome, but I got a feeling that they are just gonna give us a release season…

      • roydgriffin

I don’t know, Nintendo needs this game out desperately, I’m quite sure there will be a release date.

The question ist will there be a worldwide release date like Pokemon? :)

        • NeptuniasBeard

How will having a specific date mean we get the game faster?

          • roydgriffin

I meant it is very likely that they will announce a date, because then potentially a lot of WiiU’s will be sold in the meantime.
If you have a specific date to look forward to then you’re more likely to prepare your living room for it.

        • ForteWily

          Ok, first off…
I not sure if I really want to have a date set at this point. I am already sold on the game as is…. so I would rather the time be spent on crafting something that I can enjoy for a long while. I would not want to introduce a crunch to this for a long as possible to be honest.

Second, I am kind of hoping for a global release… BUT those are hard to coordinate. I am not sure if Nintendo would do that, the big reason that Pokemon did one was manly to keep the game from being pirated in mass quantity. When you consider the among of hacks that surround Brawl… I would think that the Smash franchise would have the same dilemma as Pokemon (that fans of the series simply will not be willing to wait), which encourages the company to do that.
Still that is a lot of details that need to be ironed out. So we’ll see.

    • Virevolte

      Tu es tout excusé. =p

    • Coming November 2018! Look forward to more of our constant stream of daily blog updates covering every pixel of the game! =D

    • Hikari Langley

lol I bet they’ll stick with “Soon”

  • Reki Honoo

Hopefully some new characters will be shown

    • Hopefully YOSHI will be shown. -_-

  • Nirun Rangraengjit

Maybe they’ll announce a new character! Or… change the name of the games to something less generic.

    • hazelnut1112

They have many other words that describe fighting. I for one hope it’s Kerfuffle, it’s an actual word.

    • NeptuniasBeard

Meh, most people will just call it Smash Bros anyway

  • Tonton Ramos

You owe us 4 characters Sakurai since you didn’t announce any characters at March!

    • Kurizu208

      wasn’t diddy for march?

      • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

        February, I think.

        • Kurizu208

Yep you are right. We did get two that month though at least.

      • Tonton Ramos

        No he is Feb…

  • Akemi Homura

    -spits out drink-

  • BlinkingRune

    Come on, Ice Climbers…!

  • hazelnut1112

Really can’t wait for this. Will this Smash Direct be the “biggest” in all of Smash directs?

    • PreyMantis

It’ll smash all the other directs before it with it’s super brothers.

  • I nearly jumped out of my chair when I saw this. Looking at the time, too, I’d say a release date is imminent because it suits the Western audience better.

  • anthony apduhan

Maybe Sakurai will announce a new gameplay single player mode where if the character is staggered by an attack little smash balls pops up and are collected to fill up a Smash Meter ala MVC/SF/etc. when it’s full you guessed it FINAL SMASH!

    • ForteWily

That has been tried, it’s just not called smash bros. Look up the game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal if you ever have the time.

      • anthony apduhan

I meant with percentage health bars that Sony game has no lifebars…

  • Krisi92

They will announce Goemon, Paper Mario, and Isaac.
Also an Eternal Darkness stage, a Rhythm Heaven stage, and a Card Hero stage.

    And I’ll die of excitement.

  • Would be nice if you guys added others regions times as well.

    • Phoenix

They added three major ones. Wherever you live, it shouldn’t be too hard to memorize your time zone in relation to one of these.
For them to add more time zones is just extra work for something you can easily google, so I think this is fine.

      • The way it is fine as well. They added THE three major region for gaming but there others and it would be NICE to have it here as well. Not demanding it, just suggesting it. There are people from other parts of the world that access siliconera like me that would like that ;)

It’s not a matter of me really wanting to know really, it’s just that little you know being considered as other regions are.

  • MrJechgo

So, one hour about SSB? Nice ^_^

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Maybe he’ll announce splitting the stages, music and trophies is a dumb idea, will renounce it and give the Wii U something better than Pilot Wings and a boring Kid Icarus NES stage.

  • Guest

I’d expect some updates that are not possible to transmit trough Miiverse, like new music arrangements, menu navigation, adventure mode, fight moves in motion and what not. A new character reveal is a given, but is it going to be a veteran or maybe a newcomer? Can’t wait!!!

  • Nate

Awesome. No game Nintendo makes can make me think about getting a wiiU like Smash Brothers can. Smash Brothers 1 and Melee where some of my favorite games. I hope they make some changes to the mechanics, like ad more b attack moves. I’m also pulling for a character that’s been on Nintendo since the first console. He’s cheap now that his parent company went under….. Bomberman.

  • The Watcher

Not expecting a release date till E3, If i had to guess it would be sometime between Late Autumn/ Early Winter, Those holiday months sales would be going through the roof for the game and the Wii U itself.

  • Smash focused direct?
I believe I speak for everyone when I say:

    • JoJo_718

  • Roberto

    My body is ready

  • Makoto Yuki

I swear when this game release I will spam Megaman for 1 week!!

  • pokeroi

September will be a good season if Bayo 2 will be release in summer

  • The Watcher

4 Player Boss Rush Mode GO!

  • Herok♞

If it is a direct completely about it, I expect characters, stages and a release date. After all they wouldn’t call it a full direct if they don’t have any real news.

    • Kaetsu

I’d also like to see more about the online component.

  • Hopefully they’ll give us new characters, both returning and newcomers.

  • mojack411

Wow, they’re announcing this one earlier than normal. Usually it’s like, “OkNintendoDirecttomorrowkSeeyouthere!” Now I actually have to wait.

    • pokeroi

Blame week-end, which doesn’t count as workdays.

      • mojack411

Then I wish they didn’t announce it until Monday so I didn’t know about it for so long haha.

  • fairysun

Can’t wait for ….. the actual game.

  • SirRichard

I would think it’s too early to call for a release date, at least in the sense that it would seem like something they’d save for E3, but clearly there’s something they want all eyes on.

    • Anime10121

You never know, last year Nintendo skipped E3 entirely for a Direct, and usually these “exclusive” Direct’s are release date Directs…

Same thing happened for Mario Kart and Wonderful 101…

      • Kaetsu

They didn’t skip E3 they just didn’t have a conference. They still showed up with a gigantic booth.

        • Anime10121

Yeah, thats what I mean though, conferences are where they debut the big trailers and announce stuffs. They had booths last year, but everything (new) was pretty much showcased at the Direct.

          • Kaetsu

I know they can save money by doing Directs but feel like they should really have a conference this year. It generates way more buzz and publicity for them. Especially if they’re going to announce the next Zelda and Miyamoto’s new IP.

          • Anime10121

I vastly prefer the conference as well, as it feels great to have the big 3 belt it out on stage by showing the goods! But with the consecutive losses the big N’s had over the last couple years, I’m sure they’re not raring to waste the money :(

          • Kaetsu

The best moment was when they announced Twilight Princess at E3. I wasn’t there but seeing to footage is awesome because everyone is roaring with excitement. I have never seen people more happy at an E3 conference(even the PS4 one). I want them to do that again because it leaves a much bigger impact on gamers.

          • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

Dude, come on. The best moment was, obviously, Wii Music.

  • AuraGuyChris

Oh god, a Smash Bros. Direct? Me thinks we’re probably getting a release date in it…maybe.

  • Shadowman

Please a release date, maybe two character reveal’s.

  • Eder García

    all aboard!!!

  • Ben Sylvia

  • ronin4life

I think seeing a new character announcement that reveals a new Game would be interesting…

    • J_Joestar

Zero Suit Samus reveal that segues into a new Metroid game?

      • ronin4life

I would like to see Isaac from Golden Sun Personally…
        And a new GS game…
I don’t really see that happening soon though.

        • Kaetsu

I believe he was an assist trophy.

  • Spirit Macardi

Hopefully this will be when Klonoa will be announced as Namco’s character for the game!

    … Yeah… Hopefully…

    • Kaihedgie

Is Klonoa really that imperative? Namco may be working on this game, but I don’t think they ever said they were putting any of their characters in.

      • Spirit Macardi

Well, they said they weren’t going to give Namco special consideration simply because they were helping with the game. Never said it wouldn’t happen though.

        Really this is just wishful thinking on my part, since to me Klonoa deserves to be in it (considering they ignored his 15th anniversary, haven’t given him a new game in forever, and cancelled his web comic). My luck though, they’re probably going to put in pac-man instead >.>;

  • Slickyslacker

Only a Smash-centric Direct? They’re seriously stretching out their time before E3.

Eh, I just wish we could get a sort of wild card character, like Chibi-Robo or something. Not just boring slotfillers like the Wii Fit Trainer.

    • NeptuniasBeard

One mans boring slot fillers is another mans wild card…

    • Kaetsu

It sucks that they said the roster size is going to be similar to Brawl. I think it was due to the fact that the 3DS version is holding it back. Smash on handheld is cool but if it doesn’t work that well then they should have kept it on console.

  • J_Joestar

I hope they go into detail about how the 3DS and Wii U version work together (since we know there is no direct Cross-Play feature). They really need to explain to us why we need both games and not just one or the other.

  • Jonah Paley

    my ready is body

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Calem for smash, calling it now

  • Kaihedgie

Maybe we’ll get an actual final name for this game

    • Anime10121

I think they already actually confirmed that the name of the games are Super Smash Bros Wii U and Super Smash Bros 3DS :/

I know they’re plain and lack pizazz, but I think those are the names that are set…

      • Kaetsu

I really wish they weren’t. Melee and Brawl sound really cool. They should have stuck with the theme and called it something like Takedown or Skirmish.

        • Anime10121

Agreed, the names are extremely bland… I just hope the games’ll actually be good themselves..

          • Kaetsu

I’m a little worried about the 3DS version pulling the Wii U version back but hopefully it’ll all work out in the end.

  • Refresh220

I just don’t see how they could improve this to be better than Brawl. I mean Brawl was pretty much perfect, what could they possible do with these games to make it better than Brawl?

    • Kaetsu

I’m exactly sure what they’ll do myself. To me the game looks like Brawl with some improvements and that’s perfectly fine with me. It sure doesn’t look like it’ll make the leap from N64 to Melee but I’m sure it’ll still be fun.

  • Mugiwara

And in the end of the Nintendo Direct…. Layton is confirmed!! YEAAH!!!
    Let me dream people.
