Yo-kai Watch 2 is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan, Level 5 reveal in the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine. The game will be available in two versions—Founder and Head. (Thanks, Anime News Network)

In Yo-kai Watch 2, Keita and co. will travel back in time to a Showa era version of New Sakura Town, with the help of a mysterious youkai. The game will reveal the secret of Keita’s youkai watch, which allows him to communicate with Japanese spirits.

Two new characters will be key to the story—Keizou, a boy in the past that bares a resemblance to Keita, and Dekanyan, a new cat youkai. The game will have new events, and will also give you access to special youkai if you own the first Yo-kai Watch.

Yo-kai Watch 2 will be available in Japan on July 10th. Both the Founder and Head versions will have limited editions that give you special rare medals. Meanwhile, Level 5 International America have been gauging interest for the first Yo-kai Watch in the west.

I highly enjoyed the first one, so I’ll be looking forward to this release. My only question is if there’ll be more differences between the two versions beyond the medal.

  • Aristides

Hope we get the first one so we can actually get excited about the second one XP

  • MrRobbyM

Well that was fast. I wish Level 5 localized the first one before announcing this. For me, it’s hard to get excited for a game knowing a more refined, probably better sequel is being made. That’s assuming we’re getting the first one at all.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Time to grab the first. Though I’m sure everybody saw this coming. The game is STILL selling a lot.

  • D-Omen

Hm, around the time we EU folks are getting the first Inazuma Eleven GO. Not bad.

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, the franchising rises! Just hope they let you play as the girl too, not sure if the wording here means there’s just one protag… but eh, that feels like a silly thing to change for the sequel so probably not.

  • Kenny Loh

damn man, please releasing the english version of the first game soon, i don’t want to buying a japanese 3ds to playing the game.

  • Guest

With how successful it has been this is expected. But cool to have the confirmation, with the recent localization announcements there is a good chance Youkai Watch (and Fantasy Life) coming next!

  • Ethan_Twain

I haven’t seen something as colorful as this magazine scan since the bonus stages at the end of Mario 3D World. It’s like a box of crayons barfed over the page.

    • That’s CoroCoro for you. I think the exact same thing every time a Pokémon report appears in the magazine.

  • Trinity

I misread this and thought it was for a localization announcement. Oh well.

  • Audie Bakerson

Showa is pretty long, 1926-1986. While it would never take place 31-46 (even the west wouldn’t set a children’s product not explicitly about that war during it and over there they barely talk about their involvement, so it’s not going to happen), it’s a pretty big slice of recent history.

And if Keizou isn’t his (great grand) father (or a shapeshifter…), I’ll be really surprised…

  • Okay, now this is making me curious. Japan’s getting 2 versions of Yo-kai Watch 2, while most people have yet to get the first one… Is this gonna get localized or not?

  • Tsurugi
