Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Will Hit Japan On August 28th

By Ishaan . April 23, 2014 . 7:22am

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will be available in Japan on August 28th, this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reports. (Thanks, Hachima)

As reported earlier in the week, Persona 4’s Rise Kujikawa is now a playable character in the game, and a Shadow variant of Rise will make an appearance as well. There’s speculation that the game’s story will somehow connect to that of Persona 4: Dancing All Night, but no details are available on this front.

Additionally, the game now has a new Golden Arena mode, which is a tournament utilizing an RPG-like system whereby you can level up and customize your characters with different skills. Famitsu says there are over 150 skills to choose from.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will be available on PlayStation 3 in Japan, but North America will get the game on both Xbox 360 and PS3 this Fall. Meanwhile, the arcade version of the game in Japan will be updated with the Golden Arena mode later this month.

    Meanwhile in europe…. orz

    • SupaPhly

hopefully they don’t region lock the ps3 version again like douches
seriously if they want to avoid people importing the game in japan, they should just make it slightly cheaper there

      • XiaomuArisu

ehm…..I think they already said they did that…

    • DeadLineDance

I genuinely wonder what the demographics for this website are. Based on the most upvoted comments, I’d say “ATLUS Fans From Europe” make up a sizable proportion.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

Golden Arena mode sounds really interesting, sort of like unlimited mars in blazblue? Definitely looking forward to learning about it later. My only hope is that they don’t region lock the game again, I plan to import the JP version to get it sooner!

    • Corn

It’s more like Abyss mode from BB. Unlimited Mars is like the Score Attack of P4A.

      • Afternoon Intergalactic

        Sorry, got them confused haha.

      • God

Don’t remember me about Score Attack, I only got past Mitsuru once… Out of over 100 attemps! It was Traumatizing!

  • friendly neighborhood_dude

How would Rise fare in a fighting game? I’m pretty sure she will be a technical character.

    • Freakmasta

Her weapon of choice is a mic so I would assume trap set-ups with voice projectiles and sound traps.

      • friendly neighborhood_dude

I bet that she will even have lower health than Elizabeth.
        definitely not my play style…

        • DeadLineDance

Yeah, this is my pessimistic expectation as well: that we finally get a playable, fighting Rise, but that her play style will be some weird, tricky character that I don’t like playing as. Meanwhile, the character with my favorite fighting style is my LEAST favorite P4 girl. I love playing as Chie in Arena, but I don’t like Chie herself as a character.

          • friendly neighborhood_dude

Dude I <3 Chie and I don't know why people hate her.

          • DeadLineDance

Say what? From what I’ve seen while traveling the internet, Chie’s everybody’s favorite. Except for me.

          • friendly neighborhood_dude

Well what I meant is that Mitsuru-sama steals everybody’s heart.
I don’t know maybe it’s just a coincidence but the Mitsuru lovers I faced always had something against Chie.

          • TheExile285

Because deep down, they know Chie is better in superior!!

(I’m kidding. No waifu wars plz)

  • frogurts

I wonder how Rise will control… maybe she’ll be a joke character. now we just have to see if Ken is in this game. After all, a character with a spear would be fun to use.

  • hazelnut1112

At least Europe MIGHT get it in two years after this.

  • Dasheble

“Coming soon region-locked to a store near you!” Waddaya mean you’re European?

  • Mirai

Please don’t region lock! Please don’t region lock! Please don’t region lock!
I do not want to have to wait almost an entire year after its released in US before I can play the game.

My face when I read this article:

  • Jake_Indiman

Well Atlus, an announcement of Koromaru, and Fuuka would be nice. Then my hopes and wishes for this game will be complete. :)

Golden Arena mode sounds like the greatest thing ever.

  • frogurts

i hope this means Ken will be in the game, a spear user would be pretty fun, not to mention Ken has gotten older, he may look a lot different.

  • frogurts

I guess Rise’s persona is like Mitsuru’s, it can provide support and fight. i guess it never occurred to her or her persona somehow gained the ability to fight, huh.

    • Robert Kupper

It gains the ability to fight as a result of some plot stuff. I think because she has to face herself again becoming an idol.

  • Firion Hope

That’s a bit earlier than us I think, I’m jealous. I’ve been playing the first one recently and having fun

Still think Rise randomly being a fighting character is kinda dumb and out of nowhere though

  • Byron Kerrison II

    Shadow Kanji is fabulous.

I wonder if he will be given his default outfit.

  • Dianatos

One of my hopes for this game is a less convoluted story mode. The format of following every character’s perspective worked in the first few BlazBlue’s, where everyone did their own thing until they crossed paths. Not so much in P4U where it was very redundant and had no sense of continuity during the tournament part. Hopefully, with the Shadows on the loose and no tournament, the a multi-perspective view might work if they don’t drop it altogether like BBCP.

    • DyLaN

Its been establish that the story mode is split into “Episode P3″ and “Episode P4″.

    • Skode

Story repeating itself too much in too many cases as well… i dont know if thats because it was so restrictive in having it just based in the school and a few levels within or the small roster overall for a fighting game (given the distinct lack of NPCs around as well to buffer the story out) but i just burned out with it too much too often… didnt help having to go back and forth with certain characters as it would cliffhanger midway just when they started to get interesting and do their own unique tale twists.

Im probably gonna give this one a miss personally, storywise i can simply catch up on someones stream or youtube.
