Super Smash Bros. To Have Trophies From The Wonderful 101

By Ishaan . May 7, 2014 . 11:30am

Wonder Red from The Wonderful 101 will be a Trophy in Super Smash Bros., director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed over Miiverse. Sakurai says that trophies of other members of the Wonderful 100 will be in the game as well.

Why stop with Smash Bros? Bring Samus and Beyonatta into Hyrule Warriors!

      • Ixbran

ther were rumors circulating around that Hyrule Warriors would have Samus, Pit, and Takamaru guest staring in that game. due to the fact that the first game in all four series were made in the same year. I’ve often even seen people refer too Link, Samus, Pit, and Takamaru as the “Famicom Four” or something..

    • I’m sorry, but you can’t say “Smashing” on a picture and not expect this. (Horrible edit, I know. I’m half asleep and I don’t care. Please feel free to make a better one.)

      • Göran Isacson

You’re doing the Lords work, son. Which lord I do not know, but there is SOME higher power at work here.

  • AuraGuyChris

Nowhere in the posting says he’ll be an Assist Trophy.

  • Dianatos

Sweet. Now this to lead to a bunch of other questions, like will Bayo and the other Platinum ip characters make cameos too? Or is this a roundabout way of working Snake into the game, because Platinum made Revengeance and…

  • James Enk

you know what it would be cool if the assist trophy is a big W and when used a random character from the game showed up

  • Solomon_Kano

Well… it’s better than nothing, I suppose, though it would have been sweet to see somebody from the game playable.

    • PreyMantis

Let’s not jump to conclusions since it’s more than likely that the playable characters all have their own trophies like in the past games.

      • Solomon_Kano

Oh? Well, if that turns out to be the case, that’d be great.

      • British_Otaku

It would be very strange to reveal a playable character with a trophy first, when playable characters are usually announced with a trailer teasing or showing off their moveset, OST and stage.

Waluigi had a blatant denial in both Brawl and SSB4’s announcements of his assist trophy but that doesn’t make anyone else have much better odds.

        • PreyMantis

But that was an assist trophy. This is not. It’s just a trophy any of the playable characters also have. It doesn’t prove anything besides the fact that the series is in the game.

  • PreyMantis

I don’t know, but there’s always this weird feeling that we’re being trolled whenever Smash Bros. 4 related news comes out. Like this, for example, can mean anything. Since playable characters do also have their own trophies, this can mean that Sakurai is hinting that Wonder Red will be playable, but at the same time, it can also mean nothing and he’s just a trophy… Damn all these uncertainties…

  • PreyMantis

The article is misleading. Sakurai never said anything about the Wonderful 101 as assist trophies, just trophies.

    • Akemi Homura

It’s not even misleading. At this point in time, it’s just flat out wrong.

      • PreyMantis

You’re right, but I’m also correct since it misleads others unaware of the fact.

  • Spirit Macardi

It’d be super easy to get Wonder Blue into the game, since him and Sonic share a voice x3

    • British_Otaku

That only means that recording days for Roger could be scheduled on the same day for both characters potentially, nothing else.

      • Spirit Macardi

        I was joking there.

… Did I seriously just have to elaborate on that?

        • British_Otaku

While it didn’t seem “serious” (in which case, I might quote cases where other characters with the same voice actor didn’t make it), it didn’t seem like a decent joke either.

… I often respond to false claims or guesses with paragraphs of death. Count yourself lucky. >_>

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

The same with others, not an assist trophy. Just a regular old trophy.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Before we even head down this road, I’d like to remind folks that the W101 IP is OWNED by Nintendo unlike Bayonetta. However, since Bayonetta was basically saved by Nintendo, there’s a good chance a PG13 version of her will show up in the game.

Sakurai’s post was purposely vague if you ask me…it would do wonders for the original game if Wonder Red did end up being playable by possibly having the Roy/Ike effect that helped Fire Emblem back in Melee.

    • I think you mean Roy/Marth. Ike wasn’t in Melee…

      • SetzerGabbiani

  • TruSpindash

So playable Wonder Blue instead then, got to keep that hope alive.

    • British_Otaku

While it isn’t impossible for a rival to be picked over a lead in a crossover title (Marvel vs Capcom 3 had Zero but no form of Megaman), Smash Bros has consistently picked the main character of a series first before any rivals, partners and so on.

This doesn’t confirm that Blue won’t make it (or even Red if we are really desperate to believe) but makes it seem incredibly unlikely.

  • freezestar

Sakurai never said that Wonder Red was an Assist Trophy. What he said was this: ” Fight! The Wonderful 100!! We also made trophies of some of the other Wonderful Ones.”

    • s07195

Basically they’re all gonna come out and form weapons. :D

  • Can’t say I expected him to be in the game in any form. But…

  • Kalis Konig

The post said nothing about assist trophies. They are regular trophies. A waste of a great character if you ask me.

  • NeptuniasBeard

Hopefully now people will stop saying that W101 isn’t a Nintendo IP. I mean… what more proof do you need lol

    • British_Otaku

Was that a thing? The title was published by Nintendo and even had Nintendo characters proposed at a point to be the leads (it worked out being a fresh experience by avoiding those licenses even if it didn’t sell the game).

Bayonetta 2 is the one people seem to be going back and forth about, at least as far as the likeliness of it going to another platform soon.

      • Guest

        It’s a thing.

But worse are the ones who argue it doesn’t count as a Nintendo property :p

        • NeptuniasBeard

          The disappointment is real…

        • British_Otaku

Woah, I’ve seen some uninformed folks on Miiverse before, but I wasn’t aware that it goes this far… >_>

That said, I wasn’t too sure whether Dillon was first or second party (if I wasn’t the type who looks up Nintendo’s IP regularly).

    • Aaron K Stone

It’s the same situation with Microsoft and Gears of War.

    • Guest

The Cyborg Ninja was also an Assist Trophy and does not mean that Metal Gear is owned by Nintendo. Platinum was not bought (that I by Nintendo (that I know) and Sega too, is third party yet. If it was an Assist Trophy related with Xenoblade then yes it would make more sense, because Monolith was bought by Nintendo.

      • NeptuniasBeard

I… hope this is just an attempt at trolling. You even pointed out the flaw your own argument. Obviously Cyporg Ninja was only in because Snake was in. Nobody is gonna say SNAKE is a Nintendo character. If Snake isn’t in Smash 4, all traces of his series goes with him. The W101 have NO such connection.

  • Atwa

Wonder Red is the only newcomer I ever wanted :(

  • z_merquise

I hope the Wonderful 101 characters (or some of them) can be playable characters. That may help boost the awareness for the game, right?

    • British_Otaku

Too little too late? I suppose they could be selling a steady but small flow of copies now for discounted amounts which could lead to a sequel selling much better from the increased awareness, but they missed the train for raising awareness that highly.

      • z_merquise

It’s like what happened in Vanquish. Many just realize just how great it is a year or two later after the game’s release. Though it’s nice that more people discover it, it’s just unfortunate that for the publisher’s point of view (Sega), it meant nothing.

Since Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo IP, I wonder if they would give this game a chance to grow (a sequel or characters appearing more in other Nintendo games) once they become playable in Smash.

  • exrazer

trophies you mean? Iwas so hyped and now.. I’m sad.

  • British_Otaku

Assuming that no members of the Wonderful One Double Oh make it in as playable/assist characters, I hope we get some other good representation of the game…

The stage potential is still high.
If the enemies are used for the 2D Adventure modes like the one on the 3DS, it could be pretty cool.
The soundtrack is still ripe to be used again.
Also, I would love to see the Wonder Mask as a useable item and optional mode in the game.

  • hazelnut1112

    I still want to believe.

  • Kroz

really want wonder red to be playable, i’d rather have him than bayo honestly

  • Zenthos

Maybe its safe to assume well get a character from MM as well? That skull kid trophy tells me a playable character is possible.

  • Göran Isacson

Welp, I learned something today- didn’t know that Wonderful 101 was a Nintendo-owned IP! Kinda interested in seeing if the Wonderful gang might make it in as assist trophies- perhaps a random draw decides which Wonderful 101 leads, so we can have assists with Hand, Sword, Gun, Whip, Claw, Bomb and Hammer depending on the RNG. That’d be neat.

Of course playable heros would be even neater, but I know better than to dream so wildly.
