NIS America have shared a trailer for Natural Doctrine, an upcoming strategy RPG for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. The game is planned for release this Fall.

In addition to singleplayer, Natural Doctrine features a local and online multuplayer component, and will allow for cross-play across all three platforms.

Wow, I’m surprised they’re still bringing it over, considering.

NIS may be banking on their Western fanbase being more open-minded than their Japanese fanbase. In which case they’d probably be right.

    • landlock

Since they’ve already licensed and worked on it. It’d be pointless stopping now. Also the Japanese sales don’t mean anything really.

    • persona_yuji

If Time and Eternity made it to the west, it doesn’t really colour me surprised.

But I bet that they just want to spread the word fo the awesomeness and epicness of the adventure of the legendary badass hero, whose name makes his enemies tremble! JEFF!…. (so freaking anti-climatic xDD)

      • landlock

Better then something like Edge Maverick. Unless you want the enemies to die laughing.

        • darke

I still maintain if he was called “Edge Something” or “Something Maverick” it’d be fine; it’s just the two together that is a little… ug. >.<

        • Afternoon Intergalactic

          Star Ocean…. merrrrp.

  • cirE

Cross-platform multiplayer between PS3 and PS4? I’ll be keeping my eye on this game for sure!

  • Thatguy

    I don’t care what people say – i’ll get this on PS4.

Because i don’t remember, when i played that kind of game last time

    • otakumike

don’t let people bashing it due to it’s graphics get to you. They usually wind up being hypocrites anyway. Get games for gameplay.

      • Thatguy

Well, people bashing that game for gameplay, though :/
        Like *computer-is-cheating-bastard* thing.

But i liked what i saw. Looks and sounds… rewarding. Autumn will be boring for me, anyway.

  • John Pena

John definitely interested in this game, john may get.lol

  • Kai2591

Hoping this game will help fill (if only partly) the Valkyria Chronicles-sized hole in my heart :)

    • Duo Maxwell

Just remember don’t go playing the game hoping it to be another Valkyria Chronicles, since it’s really different once you played. Some people were disappointed because they wanted it to be “Valkyria Chronicles on the PS4″.

The game is good enough in its own, though.

      • Kai2591

        I see.
Well as long as its good :)

    • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

That’s going to be a deep hole to fill for all of us lol

    • fairysun

If anybody ever wondered how that hole was created at the first place.

      • Kai2591

Ah I love this character. Her story shouldn’t have ended the way it did…she’s good enough to have her own sequel story imo – along with that engineer in the DLC XD

    • Ric Vazquez

      Same here

  • lionintown

    JEFF U R SO STRONG!!!

  • Cephrien

Yeah, this game still looks awful

  • Johnnyxt

i cannot deem this as graphics suitable for the next generation consoles. you can just see how poorly done it is even in the movement flow of the characters when they shift their bodies or draw their weapon. kodakawa’s going downhill. =/

    • DyLaN

That their first internally developed game, mind you. Nobody perfect on the first try.

      • landlock

Yeah it’s there first and since it’s on the Vita as well it’s was always going to mid-tier (not a terrible thing).

    • God

So? For most people graphics are not that important as long as the gameplay is good.

      • revenent hell

        Totally agree here.
Mind you I do get picky when it comes to next gen graphics sometimes with certain developers BUT at the end of the day story and gameplay totally overrides graphics for me.

Edit: I think kids these days prefer “pretty” over gameplay/story sadly.

  • Thelastgunstar

I’m honestly torn. The concept looks interesting and the art style is right up my alley. However, seeing such a broad release makes me stop and question…why?

From the gameplay snips, you can see some decent texturing and shading. Those are getting cut for the Vita version. The PS3 should be able to run it no problem….and the PS4 is just plain overkill for a game like this. Why release on all Sony platforms?

I’ll end up getting this for the Vita and I hope they don’t have to cut back too much to get it running well on the system.

    • darke

Because it was probably developed for the PS3; that’s the hardest.

Porting it to the Vita there’s apparently special tools that Sony has that make porting PS3 games to the vita relatively easy.

Like almost all games, it was probably originally developed/tested/debugged on the developer’s PC; so porting it to PC-like hardware like the PS4 is pretty easy. And I bet Sony is probably minimising/waving any certification costs for it’s new hardware at the start due to just plain wanting more games on it.

  • KH1989b

I definitely want this game but I will be honest the poor reception it got in Japan does worry me.

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

Cross play with all three!? You now have my attention. I’ll have to wait and see how the online multiplayer works out before I try to drag my gaming friend into playing it with me ( ._.)

Also. I’m usually not one to do this sort of thing but “local and online –>multuplayer_<)

  • nonscpo

This game looks nice for a Vita release however Im not so sure for the PS4.

  • Learii

    go NISA go <3

  • Bigabu Beaze

    Is that mech dude playable?

  • HilariousNPC

Nothing I like more in a trailer for a strat-RPG than 0% gameplay. Looks like I’ll wait for a substantial price drop and than grab it on my Vita.

  • Ric Vazquez

I WANT THIS TO BE LOCALIZED!

    • revenent hell

Localized for where? Its releasing in Japan, Europe and the USA…….

      • xXDGFXx

Fucking Mars. Martians need some Japanese games, too!

        • revenent hell

          I totally agree.
If aliens infest the earth I think videogames will save mankind from becoming dinner.

      • Ric Vazquez

        I didn’t know that info

        • revenent hell

Then you should do a quick google search before asking for a localization. Siliconera has many articles stating that the game will be localized for these locales.

If you look above the article header where it states what platform the game is on the flags tell you which countries the game they are talking about is for.

          • Ric Vazquez

I honestly didn’t noticed that until know

  • darke

I guess, yet again, we can’t expect a cross-buy since as far as I can tell the Japanese release doesn’t have it, despite the PS3/PS4 versions being the same cost (which is unusual for the ‘big budget’ releases at least in the western markets).
