This Old Famicom Game By Nintendo Is Coming To The West For The First Time

By Ishaan . May 26, 2014 . 10:32am

If you played Nintendo Land, you probably saw an attraction called “Takamaru’s Ninja Castle” in the game. This attraction was based on an early Famicom Disk System game released by Nintendo only in Japan, titled Nazo no Murasame Jō.

This week, the game is being released outside Japan for the first time ever. Titled The Mysterious Murasame Castle, the game will be released for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Europe on May 29th, a whole year after we first caught wind of its overseas release. It will cost €4.99/£4.49.

The Mysterious Murasame Castle plays similarly to the first Zelda game, with the difference being that it’s more fast-paced and has a time limit. The game’s stages take place in Murasame and its four neighbouring castles, with weapons like a katana and shuriken available for use.

You may recall that Samurai Warriors 3 contained a mode inspired by this game, too, and it included Takamaru as a playable character.

      This please!

  • SirRichard

Oooh, that’s pretty neat. Definitely picking this one up as a curiosity, that’s for sure.

  • Aisha Lee

My smash bros. senses are tingling.

    • AuraGuyChris

Your European senses, because this means nothing if it’s not released in NA as well.

      • Aisha Lee

well I don’t see a europe only tag anywhere (not like we never had a character represent in SB with a game released in NA first) and I find weird that I’ve seen people mention this series in SB news without it being that well known and now a western release? But who knows. Could just be a coincidence

Last time a famicom game got localized on the 3DS it was Summer Carnical ’92: Recca. Europe got in August, while North America got it in September.

It’s kinda obvious everyone is getting it, why would a third party game get global localization over a first party game?

This game is pretty fun. It’s also nice that Nintendo is re-releasing older games that never made it to the west. I can only hope that they follow suit with text-heavy games like Famicom Tantei Club.

If this comes to the US VC I am so gonna buy this. Then tell everyone I know to buy it.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Nooo! I’ve been waiting for this game for ages! Don’t get stuck in Europe please! Come on NOA! Don’t make us create another petition :(

  • Guy Wesley

I sometimes die a little on the inside when North America hardly announces stuff like this. It’s like NoA hates taking chances.

Nah, that’s not fair to Europe, since the only thing that comes there first are some Nintendo games. There are other games out there that they don’t get at all. Still, I’m not changing my opinion about NoA.

    • landlock

NISA published games usually arrive here first as well. :)

How lucky for EU, I hope we see it here too! I’ve always been very happy for the JP only games that we’ve been seeing with VC, and I still hold out hope that Sega will one day give us Napple Tale~.

  • Professor_Icepick

No NA release? I’m not even surprised anymore.

  • That guy

Excuse me friend, but the 3DS has plenty of games.

  • persona_yuji

Shin Megami Tensei IV would be nice, but that is better left for another topic.

  • ( `Д´)ノ)`ν゜)

In 2013 maybe, some new ones would be nice.

  • That guy

But friend 3DS are going to be announced, it’s the WiiU that needs games now.

  • Aaron K Stone

The 3DS has had a few game released in 2014. Maybe not as many as 2013, but there has been.

  • Lordshade

I read somewhere that Nintendo of France was translating it into French, although it was just passivley mentioned by name. http://www.lefigaro.fr/secteur/high-tech/2014/05/22/01007-20140522ARTFIG00230-mario-kart-8-va-relancer-les-ventes-de-la-wii-u.php

  • persona_yuji

It may have just been mentioned passively, but it is SOMETHING.

  • landlock

That’s something more then Atlus has said, LOL.

  • landlock

At the moment the Vita is looking much sweeter for Japanese games for the rest of the year and beginning of 2015.
