Watch Sony’s E3 Press Conference At A Movie Theatre

By Ishaan . May 28, 2014 . 12:02pm

Sony’s E3 press conference this year will take place on June 9th, and the company is making arrangements that will allow fans to gather at movie theatres in the U.S. and Canada to watch the conference on a large screen.

Over 40 movie theatres will simulcast the conference, and attendees will also get access to 30 minutes of extra content, which will include game footage and developer interviews. Sony are also teasing “surprise gifts” for attendees.

The event is free, but space is limited, so if you’re interested, you’ll need to sign up relatively quickly. You can register for the event here. Sony’s E3 conference is on June 9th, at 6:00 pm PST.

None of the places are close by so forget that. I will just watch it on the internet. My “E3 experience” will not be all that crazy with sony anyways.

  • I’d go, but Sony conferences are always long as hell with not enough focus on the good stuff. I’ll just stream it. I’m still not sure if I should go to the Smash Invitational. On the one hand Smash Bros, on the other the Smash FGC which is awful.

    • PreyMantis

Just go with the “for fun” side, if they have it.

  • Well that’s certainly unique. :P It’s a fun idea and I’m glad they’re trying something new, but I think I’ll just stick to watching it on the internet. These E3 presentations can honestly be really boring sometimes because often they’ll just show off gameplay from a sequel to a game that plays the exact same, or they’ll just spout buzz word after buzz word. At least when I’m watching at home, I can get up and take a break while they’re wasting time.

  • RichyGaming

All I care about is Kingdom Hearts 3. My hype for FF15 died so hard that I wouldn’t care if the game releases in 5 minutes.

    • Ronldbx6

New Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer FTW! It best not disappoint. My body is ready this time. Last time they pulled that one over my head.

  • Shaverdian

I don’t want to be stuck in a movie theater waiting for Sony to get to the good part. At least when I’m watching it on the internet I can play Pokemon or something while waiting for something cool to happen.

Here’s hoping that they show Persona 5 at the conference.

  • Christopher C

Do you think it’d be possible to get tickets, go, get that surprise, and then leave? Unless it’s some crappy gift…

  • Well it’s free, at least.

  • raeldor

Nowhere in Silicon Valley? That’s a little disappointing, especially since Sony themselves have a huge office here too. Still, nice to see Sony trying something new.

  • DesmaX

    GoW Ascention PS4 confirmed

  • klkAlexar

I’m tempted to go since it’s going to be streaming in my city, but I have prior commitment that night.

    • Steven Higgins

You should check the showtime. Mine was 9-11 AM so you may be able to make it and your other appointment.

      • klkAlexar

It starts at 6 PM so I can’t make it. I wish it would have been in the morning for my city as well.

        • Steven Higgins

Well, I was wrong anyway. Mine’s PM too. I still can’t make it. I don’t have a car.

  • JustThisOne

    Holy crap.

Looks like I’m goin’. And it’s the theatre near that sketchy part of town too? What a plus! *__*

  • Shippoyasha

May as well go if there is one nearby I suppose.

I don’t care about console wars one bit but it should be enteraining to see how people react to game news in real life.

  • randominternetperson

Does anyone else think that Sony has something BIG coming up at E3 since theyare going this far to broadcast it in theaters?

    • PreyMantis

New Crash Bandicoot, The Last Guardian release date, Persona 5 release date in the West!? One can dream.

      • Ronldbx6

I’ve been hearing people say crash has been teased a lot. My question is where? I haven’t seen a spec of him on the internet.

        • PreyMantis

Those are just fabricated hoax. However, I’m still hopeful they become true.

  • Steven Higgins

    Aww. I can’t drive.
Wonder if this is some kind of experiment. Like if they get a high attendance rate they’ll do it again next year and add more venues. Anyway.
    “Please be excited”

  • nonscpo

Well my theater us sold out, I guess ill be fine as I can stream it at home; but ill miss out on those free prizes :(

  • xanox

Just signed up for the one in portland. Woop Woop :D

  • Daniel Kursave

mission valley one sold out right after i got mine, thanks ishaan

  • i’d go to see nintendo in a heartbeat

  • hmm odd to be sure but might’ve been interesting too bad the theatre in my area is sold out

  • Someone said there was a FF15 appearance 50secs into this vid….

  • Misty Dawson

sigh. houston is sold out.. great!

  • FivePointedTheStar

Ah-ha. Did Sony do this to compete with Nintendo?

    • darke

They’re simulcasting a live presentation; unlike Nintendo who’s wimping out and just airing a canned ‘prefect’ press demo.

  • Guest

    Uhhm… Coooooool?

When I try to imagine why they’d do this, nothing good comes to mind. Either they struck some sort of sweet deal with movie theaters, or they’re wasting money generating a miniscule amount of extra hype that will soon fade and benefit no one.

I mean, who the hell wants to pay money to go out and see a press conference at a movie theater?! If anything, the fact that they paid to see it will only make viewers more skeptical and raise their expectations.

    • 3PointDecoupage

Or maybe their just doing something fun for their fans?

    • SerendipityX

uhhh…its free you just have to RSVP.

    • darke

It’s free. And there are ‘surprise gifts’ for those attending. Did you not read the article?

And it’s quite simply possible that they’re doing this for their fans. You know, the whole “good will” thing that’s not on company’s balance sheets but is surprisingly valuable in the real world?

  • r0gamer940

    on the wait list

    • mike dickson

      same here long live montreal

  • I almost thought Boston wouldn’t be on there, but it was…and sold out too :/
At least they have a waiting list, it’d be fun to experience it in a theater instead of on my laptop for a change.

    • Lastlight

      Boston is sold out???!!

  • Brion Valkerion

After the random quality of the presentations in past years… uh I’m staying home. Get a camera producer who realizes people at home don’t want to see the back of the audience head during trailers or cut to the trailer 30 seconds in. I can get that awful experience for free.

    • GOLD

did you read the article? the tickets are free. I understand why you wouldn’t want to go though.

  • GOLD

according to the map from the video, there are no participating theaters in my state. no worries though.

  • revenent hell

Eh…… I remember in my younger days how I used to look forward to these things but now a days they seem like an experience I would rather read about than see.

  • ecoutercavalier

This isn’t helping playstation’s “movie” image one bit..

    • darke

Huh? What ‘movie’ image? I thought people were bitching because it didn’t do 3d movies from bluray, and simply didn’t play movies from usb drives or DNLA and stuff?

At least it it’s not TV-TV-TV like the XB and then doesn’t really support anything but the US properly with it. :(

      • Red Harlow

At least the XB actually have good games for it..

        • darke

That’s news to me, there’s not enough non-multiplat games on either platform to justify a purchase for me still. Even the ‘console seller’ Titanfall was better on the PC and just adequate on the 360. :(

The only reason I bought a PS4 was the latest Just Dance and the potential it’s going to have a bunch of JRPGs sometime in the future.

  • Kornelious

This reminds me of when they showed the final epsidoes of Attack on Titan in theatres in Japan….Apparently Popular stuff = Movie Theatre

  • Tonton Ramos

Why did it have to be Geoff Keighley

  • The Watcher

would have been better to see the Whole E3 Conference

  • Red Harlow

Good, more room for people to boo at whatever broken promises they show

  • Learii

I like to go but I rather stay home eating pizza and watch E3 other then eating popcorn XD

  • Lacie

Sold out where I am. :(

  • Ronldbx6

well Virginia was not on the map so I’m out.
