Sonic Boom On 3DS Will Focus More On Platforming

By Ishaan . June 3, 2014 . 2:42pm

Sega have shared the first details and screenshots for the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Boom, titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.

Developed by Sanzaru Games, the 3DS game will focus more on platforming and puzzles, as opposed to the Wii U version’s focus on action-adventure and exploration.

Additionally, collectibles found in the 3DS version will be able to unlock special content on the Wii U via Wi-Fi connectivity.

Sonic Boom is slated for release on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this November. Siliconera recently spoke with Big Red Button about developing the Wii U version of the game.

Wow, those look like DS graphics.

Hell no. The DS can’t even pull off PS1 graphics. DS Sonic Games had worse graphics than the beta footage of Sonic Xtreme….
This game is looking roughly on-par with some Dreamcast games (not as good as Sonic Adventure/2 though), so we’re talking a PSP-looking game really.

      • Bobby Jennings

Nah, Rivals looked much better. This game once again has to rely on 3D to look decent.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

No PSP game looked this bad; I’m not trying to diss the 3DS / Nintendo / this game. I mean, it’s still early to conclude these will be the final graphics. But come on, these screenshots are utter crap~.

Still murders all DS games visually. For @Theob Vious Choice to compare this game to ANY DS game is an insult to this game. Even if this game looks like a -shovelware-, -throwaway- PSP title, that’s still eons better than the best that the DS can possibly try to achieve.

    • Bobby Jennings

Agreed. Sonic Rivals looks better than this.

    • Smooosh

It’ll look much better on 3DS. God knows why, but a lot of 3DS screenshots look horrible, even if they look just fine on the actual system.

Just sayin’, but it’s looking to me like they’re focusing the overall geometry priority to the character models. Can’t say that’s a good thing to do, but I guess it’s a decision they came to. Also, these might still be under development, so things may change.

Also, you should know better, by now, that stills don’t do movement justice. Besides, for all we know, they may also be focusing on providing 60FPS 3D, so don’t diss just yet.

FYI~ screenshots for the 3ds games doesnt do it any justice~ its better to wait for the actual game because i dont fucking know why the graphics of 3ds games in screenshots are always bad

  • fairysun

First thing comes to my mind ….

    • Ric Vazquez

      Mah thoughts exactly XD

    • ishyg

Can you shop that so that the projectile looks like Sonic?

    • Nobody

      Surprisingly, it wasn’t mine.

Another sidescroller… sheesh…. Wouldn’t be surprised if BigRedButton passed this version down to Dimps to develop.
I’ll be picking up the Wii U version and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it very much~

    • Invisbin

“Another sidescroller”. You…do realize we are talking about Sonic.

  • Shippoyasha

Maybe the portable lines should have their own identity because I adored Sonic Advance and Rush series. It feels a little tacky and secondary when they are riding the console game name all the time.

  • kylehyde

normally the screenshots barely makes justice to most of the 3DS, but certainly lost world for 3DS looked better in screenshots. About the developer,is not very well know name and have worked more on collections, but I heard some positive things about the Sly cooper game that they developed so I hope they can deliver a solid gameplay, but as I read in some previews this version was more liked than the Wii U version.

  • Kornelious

Wait, this game is on 3DS too!?

  • tubers

Maybe it’s 60 FPS that’s why it looks roughly like a PSP game

I’ve never followed Sonic game news tho.

    WiiU it is then!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

They must be joking….This looks pretty freaking bad like a pre beta DS game

    • http://www.nintendoworlds.com/members/turbopikachu.22921/ TurboPikachu

No DS game looked even half as good as this. Most DS games looked between SNES and Sega Saturn-quality graphics. This game is like a shovelware-grade PSP game.

  • Hector Velar

has a feel like Crash Bandicoot , maybe is the colors all bright and tropical.

  • RunningWild1984

Are people really arguing graphics, in a portable game? Get a life. Granted I’d prefer 2D artwork over shitty 3D models anyday.

Also I doubt this game can pull off the same level of platforming as the classic Genesis (Or even Game Gear) Sonic games.

  • CozyAndWarm

Good, that’s a much more appropriate gameplay style for a handheld. Personally I think the graphics look fine, but since it’s a Sonic game I hope the controls and frame rate are rock solid.

  • Nobody

I was hoping there would be both, ala Sonic generations.
