Rurouni Kenshin To Get Spin-Off Shishio Manga In August

By Ishaan . June 4, 2014 . 3:53pm

The July issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine in Japan contains details of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s new Rurouni Kenshin spin-off manga, Comic Natalie reports (via: ANN).

The new manga will be just two chapters in length and is titled Controlling Flame –Rurouni Kenshin: Hidden Chapter-. It will focus on the meeting of Shishio Makoto and and his significant other, Yumi Komagata.

The manga will also detail how Shishio formed the Juppongatana, his organization of warriors and assassins that he recruits in an attempt to overthrow the Japanese government in the original Rurouni Kenshin manga.

The first chapter of the manga will be published in the August issue of Jump SQ, the same month that the first of two Rurouni Kenshin movies focusing on the saga’s Kyoto Arc will debut in Japan.

Wish it was as long as the previous spinoff Rurouni Kenshin Restoration. Someday I will tackle the anime instead of just reading these spinoffs.

I imagine viz will run this one in our english weekly shonen jump like it did restoration, hoping for the announcement in the coming weeks.

When i saw that picture, for some reason i was expecting his hand in his pants like Al Bundy.

    • Aoshi00

Love and marriage.. I watched so much Al Bundy when I was younger lol.. So now it’s Yagami Light playing Shishio right.. the first movie was good and can’t wait for 2nd and 3rd (new OVAs horrible)

Although it’s cool to see Watsuki to revisit Kenshin after all these years, wish he would just concentrate on Embalming (it was an irregular monthly serial alrdy).. it guess it’s going to take another year or 2 for another new volume to come out :(.. all these spin offs and alternate universe just aren’t that great, especially the new OVAs and the games.. the new manga is so-so.. the live action movies are actually the best thing of this revival.

Other than that, we need a real Kenshin fighting game, Persona 4 got Arena and now another one *.*;;.. while RK had 2 crappy PSP games.. imagine a Watsuki fighter w/ Busou Renkin, Rurouni Kenshin, and Embalming, that’d be heaven!

Damn. Shishio as a main character. He is the opposite of all shonen tropes. He is a freaking villain. I wonder how it will work.

    • Altin

If it is anything like in this picture, he is probably going to live a pimp life.

      • Nice Boat Quatro

Sadly, all those burns damaged Shishio’s pimp life. If his body temperature increases he will explode

        • Altin

Dont you worry – he always keeps his cool :D

  • Pfantzypantz

Tsuyokereba iki, yowakereba shinu. I’m down, I love me some Shishio and Yumi.

Spoiler alert – it doesn’t end well.

    • Shady Shariest

How dare you spoil thousands of tv-shows, movies and games like that :<

  • Heisst

Series should have ended right at this arc. He was so good.

    • CureMarine

I honestly disagree. The Kyoto arc was really good, don’t get me wrong. But I think the Jinchu arc, fit Rurouni Kenshin’s themes perfectly for it’s ending.

They should have chose to do an ongoing manga about shishio, yumi, and houji taking over hell after they died. Shishio meeting yumi and forming the jupongatana could have been flashbacks.

Ah well, I’m happy for anything kenshin by now.

“The manga will also detail how Shishio formed the Juppongatana”

I want to know how Shishio recruited all those interesting characters.

  • Michael Connell

Aw, and here I was hoping we’d see how Shishio’s campaign to take over Hell was going, lol
