Sakurai Explains Pac-Man’s Bonus Fruit Move In Super Smash Bros.

By Ishaan . June 19, 2014 . 12:29pm

Last night, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai took to Miiverse to highlight one of Pac-Man’s moves in the game.

“Pac-Man’s standard special move, Bonus Fruit,” Sakurai wrote, alongside the screenshot above. “As you charge this move, the bonuses will change, and all of them have different characteristics and movement patterns when thrown.”

“The bonuses cycle in the same order as in the original game, and the charge-up period doubles once you cycle beyond the orange.”

Super Smash Bros. is in development for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

  • You know, Ishaan. I believe it is better to just wait till the weekend to compile the Pic of the Days an a week for better coverage, just like before E3 happened. Because I was kinda wishing there wasn’t any articles about the vague description of this guy’s standard B. And I’m kinda expecting that Sakurai will elaborate on this more along the way.

One of the moves looked like the ship from galaga, and it had a satellite like function. Don’t know nor care about the others yet.

    • SuperSailorV

I kinda like seeing small updates spread throughout the week to slowly fill in the void. I bet it’s better for traffic, too…

    • That’s certainly a valid point of view, but if that happens, then some people will start to gripe about how “this news is almost a week old” when the compilation is published. Seems like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t kinda situation. :/

      • That’s true, too. It’s really annoying.

  • Strawberry Starlet

I’m waiting for Miss Pac-Man costume. The bow shall cause enemies to flee in terror.

    • I am anxiously awaiting this as well. If it happens, then this will definitely be on of my main characters. XD

    • Saying that just reminds me of Family Guys “Ms. Menstrual Pac-man” joke. (and I can’t upload the gif because Siliconera doesn’t allow it)

  • DeAndre Atchison

I expected an explanation, not just him saying that the different items have different properties. Like, what does the strawberry or cherry do?

    • Ruins72

well he did say you throw them, and as for their effects we’ll have to wait and see.

  • SlickRoach

Looks like I found my new main. For some reason I love characters who have a randomized move/set in fighting games like Mr. G&W, Teddie (P4A), and Platinum the Trinity.

    • The Watcher

Ha, i’m with you on that one

  • Tonton Ramos

I want Simon Belmont or Solid Snake in Smash Bros 4!

    • GH56734

Play DreamMix TV Fighters 2003. It also includes Barbie.
I’m afraid Konami’s relationship with Nintendo isn’t really at its peak right now.

      • Tonton Ramos

I have faith that there will be one last 3rd party character in this game. Hey the “other” game has 4 3rd party characters so why not this game… Also Kojima really wants Snake but it’s up to Sakurai to put him in or replace him with Simon.
