Intelligent Systems Has Been Growing These Past Few Years

Intelligent Systems, best known as the developer of Fire Emblem, have been keeping busy these past few years. They’ve been taking on a pretty large number of projects for Nintendo, including Fire Emblem: Awakening, the Pushmo series, Paper Mario, the latest Daigasso Band Bros. game, and more.

In addition to developing videogame software for Nintendo, they’ve been involved in a supporting role as well, on a number of projects. Intelligent helped develop prototypes for the Nintendo 3DS Camera app, and were also involved with Square Enix’s Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection for Wii and the Dragon Quest Wars DSiWare game.

As the company has become of increasing importance to Nintendo’s overall strategy, Intelligent Systems has also been growing in size. As of 2003, the studio had 81 employees. As of 2013, that number has expanded to 130 employees. Here’s a look at how the employee count has increased over the years:

Recently, Intelligent Systems also got their very own headquarters, complete with their name on the building. Prior to this, Intelligent shared the headquarters of Nintendo’s Software Planning & Development division, which was housed in the Kyoto Research Institute building in Kyoto.

Intelligent Systems recently wrapped up work on Pushmo World for the Wii U. Their next major project is Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., a turn-based strategy game with third-person shooter elements, for the Nintendo 3DS. Other projects that are in development at Intelligent have not yet been announced, but they appear to have three or four games in development at any given point in time.
