Banner Saga publisher Versus Evil are going to be releasing an Afro Samurai game, they announced this morning. The game is being developed by Redacted Studios for PC and next-gen consoles.

Afro Samurai will be a third-person action-adventure game with an original storyline, new characters, and improved special moves and combos that “firmly [establish] the franchise as the undisputed leader in dynamic dismemberment”.

In addition to the Afro Samurai game, Versus Evil are also publishing Kyn, a Viking-inspired strategy RPG for PC, Mac and Linux.

  • In…teresting? I could’ve sworn this franchise was dead. The movie ended on a cliffhanger that’s still waiting to be resolved.

New game, original story. Don’t know where it will go… :/

  • D. Collins

    Do it

  • aizen310

But of course, I wish for a Bleach game and I get… this.

Well, it has samurais in it?

    • stephane3012

STFU Aizen! You already had your game. Let another anime have his chance.

      • aizen310

Afro Samurai had his chance on the PS3 already.

        • TheFoolArcana

Bleach already had its chance on almost every console since its release, what’s your point?

          • Yannick Ho

I would like to see DIMP and Studio Japan (SCEJ) tackle Bleach together for once. :/

          • aizen310

Take all of my YES, friend. Naruto or DBZ should rest for a little :/

          • aizen310

I’d rather see a Hellsing or EVA anime game. Why Afro Samurai? It’s obscure and I think if publishers want money they should stick with more known titles.
            Good enough for an opinion?

  • RobertLWilliams

In addition to the Afro Samurai game, Versus Evil are also publishing Kyn, a Viking-inspired strategy RPG for PC, Mac and Linux.

  • Kroz

Cool, the first game wasn’t good but it definitely wasn’t terrible. looking forward to it.

  • Shippoyasha

Maybe a sequel anime is coming? I adored the blacksploitation coolness of the first series. Nice to be funded by western funding as well.

And funny enough, the game adaptation paved the way for stuff like Revengeance with all the freeform cutting.

  • Please for the love of god don’t screw this one up. Has the potential to be such a badass game.

    • Yannick Ho

Namco was developing the previous, I would like to think that in this studio’s hands things will go for the better. ;P

  • urbanscholar

Please still have music by/approved by RZA

    • Yannick Ho

One would think so… (obvious, since the producer and therefore the studios have the rights on this franchise, which could also include the music approved by RZA).

  • tilt

I`d like to see Platinum`s take on an Afro Samurai game.

    • Yannick Ho

I would better like Platinum to tackle something like Hellsing or Attack on Titans… or even Full Metal Alchemist!! It would fit with their prerequisite of over-the-top action sequences. :D

  • PreyMantis

What I don’t get is the fact that some people still call current generation platforms as “next-gen.” We’re past that.

  • DragKudo

    • Yannick Ho

      Yes it is.

  • Hakai Ouji Vegeta #BADMAN

    Better not be a sequel…

    • Yannick Ho

It is.. apparently titled… Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of the Bear.

  • IS | 桂木

    The biggest question is…

  • I didnt think much of the origonal

  • Chee Yang

Now this just made me want a new Samurai Champloo game too.
