These Are Some Of The Skills You Can Use In Azure Striker Gunvolt

Azure Striker Gunvolt has a levelling up system by which you can raise GV’s level, increase his HP, and acquire new skills to use. Skills in Gunvolt are learnt at certain levels. You level up by defeating enemies, and at certain levels, GV will learn a new Attack or Support skill.

Skills are used by touching a Skill icon on the Nintendo 3DS touch screen, and you can equip up to four skills at a time. Each skill costs SP to use, GV can have up to three SP at any given point in time. Below are a few examples of skills:

Lightning Sphere (SP Cost: 1) – Spheres of electricity appear around Gunvolt
and deliver consecutive damage to enemies.

Electrocaliber (SP Cost: 2) – GV summons a giant blade of electricity that thrusts forward.

Voltic Chain (SP Cost: 3) – Numerous giant chains crisscross the screen and get charged with electricity. The more enemies there are in the area, the more effective the attack.

Healing Voltage (SP Cost: 1) – Gunvolt boosts his body’s electrical system to recover HP.

Aside from Skills, Gunvolt can also use Psychic Abilities in battle. One of these is called “Afterimage”. Afterimage activates when GV is hit by an enemy attack, and automatically allows him to dodge attacks for as long as the ability remains active.

Note that Afterimage can’t be used while Gunvolt is using his Lightning Ring attack, which is another Psychic Ability. Afterimage and other Psychic Abilities cost Energy Points (EP) to use. The EP bar is the curved gauge you see underneath GV himself, and if it reaches zero, he overheats.

EP can be recovered by quickly tapping Down on the D-Pad twice. Another way to recover it is to use the Recharge skill, shown below:

Recharge (SP Cost: 1) – Completely restores EP lost from using Psychic Abilities such as Lightning Ring and Afterimage. The skill allows Gunvolt to recover immediately from overheating, making it a useful aid in any situation.

Azure Striker Gunvolt will be released in Japan this August. A North American release will follow sometime later during the Summer. Plans for a European release are currently being discussed as well.

Looks interesting definitely going to keep my eye on this game.

  • CptPokerface

Ky Kiske, eat your heart out.

  • kenshinx13

Okay, August, I can handle that but if we get stuck with September for NA i’ll be a bit sad considering all the other games i’ll be shelling out for that month T_T

  • NightzeroAX

Need some info on the soundtrack. Everything else is WIN.

  • Nobody

I hope there will be a way to activate them using buttons; using the touch screen would just slow me down way too much.

    • PotatoPower

i agree, its just a messy control scheme to use touch screen like that in general

    • Christopher C

mapping them to the d-pad would be better.

  • spyro20

this is SOOO much like megaman zero.

    • Reki Honoo

Yeah considering the creator of megaman is making this game.

    • Natalie Rath

Keiji Inafune AND Inti Creates. DUHH

    • AshSatoshi

That’s because this game is a spiritual successor of sorts to Mega Man Zero by the same 2 guys who made that game series, Keiji Inafune and Inti Creates. Only difference is that there’s no involvement by Capcom.

  • IndigoRift

Don’t think I’ve seen this posted here yet:

    • John Diamond

iunno really, the whole lightning ball thing makesthe game look easy

      • neocatzon

I take it in different light. Since the basic strategy looks powerful, they can make the enemies even more unforgiving.

        • John Diamond

~The enemies and Stage layout were already unforgiving in games like megaman zero. Even the miniboss near the end was downed in no time flat.

i just hope there’s an X-buster esque weapon

      • ShinNeoGranzon

The really broken thing is that it seems that any enemy that dies drops an item that recharges your energy, and even if your low on energy you can just press down twice or use the recharge skill

      • 60hz

looks fine to me, you still have shoot each enemy you want to do the lightning attack on, seems like if you shoot them more than once the ball does more damage…in most action games you just need to shoot the enemy, in this one that’s just the first step… hard to say if it’s difficult or not tho, but it looks fun, i am looking forward to this one.

    • murinto

that lightning ball thing seems like it would get old fast

  • LaserVision

This is looking more like my favorite Castlevanias. Which is a wonderful thing.

I just might end up getting this game twice, mainly because I’d rather have it on my XL, which is sadly only my Japanese one ._.’ but knowing if one battery’s out I can still play it on the other would be great. Depends on the price, of course.

  • MSJ

    holy shit dat Excaliba!

    • God

If only they could have come up with a better name, it’d be perfect…

    • ShinNeoGranzon

I know! I just want to pull a Saber from Fate/Stay Night and go electro-CALIBER! Though honestly, with the lightning spheres covering such a wide area and only taking one point, and I assume that we can still move and attack as its active, I can’t imagine myself using any of the more expensive skills unless it only lasts for a few seconds or is limited in some other way.
Edit: So I just saw a video on a lower comment and apparently the lightning sphere skill is a stationary skill that only last a few seconds, so maybe I’ll try out the other skills

  • Ren Yuumei

I kind of dont like all that Lightning Ring spam, it makes the gun look useless

  • D. Collins

    All right!

  • CrossZX

I really hope this game comes out in Europe!

  • Christopher C

I think you forgot to add that the percentage also represents the psychic bar? Just by looking at the pictures it’s pretty obvious.

  • Can’t wait

  • XiaomuArisu

Im hyped. Dont dissapoint your EU bros~

  • Kudan

    Can’t wait.

  • KuroNathan

That’s pretty neat. I always love platformers with customization. I wonder what’s the limit on skill usage besides what’s equipable? an energy system or a cool down?
