Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 Coming To The West With Enhanced Features

By Ishaan . July 2, 2014 . 7:07am

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 is coming to the West on the Nintendo 3DS, Sega announced this morning. The game will be titled Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix, and is an enhanced version of Project Mirai 2, which was released in Japan last year.

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix will come with two different rhythm game modes (button and touch) and three difficulties per song. Here’s how Sega describes the game:

Players will enjoy a highly customizable experience with user customization options for button icons and sounds, character costumes and gear for the character rooms. Players can create and share personalized player cards that show off who you are as well as create customized dance routines to the songs, your own musical phrase and personalized comments about their favorite in-game videos, all via StreetPass. The game also utilizes the AR card and photo capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS to bring characters to life in 3D.

The Project Mirai games have a unique feature in that you can actually have the Vocaloid characters sing certain songs other than their own. You can see this feature in action here.

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix will be available in 2015 in the West.

Correction: Game scheduled for 2015, not 2014.

    ….*Deep Breath* “YES YES YES!”

  • GigaHero

Oh my god… My money… 3 Hatsune Miku games in the same year? Ok

  • Herok♞

Wait isn’t this the one with the songs from both games? In which case hype!

    • 하세요

Yes, everything from the first game is included.

  • Mika Moreno

I’m so happy, I’ve wanted this game for months! If i remember correctly, this game has Gumi also! :D

    • Justin Graham

      It does, in fact!

      • Mika Moreno

Hooray! She’s one of my favorite Vocaloids. Not to mention this game has Senbonzakura and Matryoshka, which in my opinion are some of the best Vocaloid songs.

  • Aristides

Not sure if this game is for me, but I’m glad they’re bringing it over.

  • SpaceOfSoul

    I am so excite (- 3-)/

  • Makoto Yuki

Yes! Finally, so upset when I couldn’t play the first one because of region lock

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

Which means another game to my list. Better edit that in me notepad later as a mental note.

  • 하세요

    That’s good. The game is just as fun as the standard Project Diva games. I still play it fairly often. I hope the Streetpass isn’t region specific or I’ll still be foreveralone without other peoples’ profiles ;=;

I’m still wondering what the enhancements are because so far everything listed is the same.

  • Odd, I thought the announcement said it was gonna be next year.

  • tturtlejosh

Aaaaaah! I’m crying this is so awesome and this year!
Edit: Guess you guys were too excited and forgot the word “next” still great news

    • AkuLord3

Good things happen once and a while

    • Weeb

Ehhh, they gotta do a lot more before you can call em gods. But this is a great announcement.

      • Neppygear

I confirm them for godhood whenever they announce a new Miku game, it’s a thing.

        • Weeb

I’ll confirm them to godhood when they treat western fans of their various other abandoned or non-localized game series better. So far they are barely doing anything about that outside the slow release of the 3D classics.

    • SupaPhly

they’re great, but they are WAY too far from being gods,

they don’t even respond to the people asking about their other games at all :(
even a simple “we’re not planning to translate that” response would ease everyone down instead of completely ignoring

  • Interesting hope UK is included in that

    • Neppygear

It is, Sega’s blog post also confirmed Europe.

  • Keko

Welp, finally a 3DS game I do want!

  • Quizler

Oh god yes, this is it, it’s fucking HAPPENING. my dreams are finally coming true. I can’t even put it into words how happy I am, thank you so freakin’ much sega.

  • otakumike

Am I the only one who can’t stand the chibi designs?

    • Rose Spinoza

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the particular art style used in the game, but the features and songs will probably get me to buy it anyways.
      I’m weak!

      • otakumike

I’ll keep an eye on it but seriously I hate this trend. The new guided fate paradox and corpse party are pissing me off for switching to 3D chibi models too. :/

        • Rose Spinoza

Well. Besides the 3d-ness, Corpse Party has always been chibi, so tht doesn’t really bother me.

          • otakumike

to me that’s not really the same. The transition from 2D to 3D just makes them look awful. I mean Guided fate paradox had high definition sprites, now they’re just bland big headed 3D models.

        • 4shiki

I would not call this a trend since SD designs are old as dirt (okay, not really, but you get it).

Also, consider Japan fucking loves cuteness.

  • Anna Scruton

Ive been holding off on the Vita games for Mirai. Ive wanted to play Mirai forever!

    • Anna Scruton

And I hope they keep the Puyo Puyo mode in this new version! Haven’t had a Puyo Puyo game in the west since 2004!

      • 하세요

It’s really laggy. The framerate on it is horrible and I have no idea why.

  • Cyrus

This game is super good, easily one of my most played 3DS games.

  • Anesia Hunter

YAY!! Took them long enough. ^.^

  • SupaPhly

Thank you sega! Day one buy!

    now if only you could just listen to your other fanbases… please ;_;

  • KuroNathan

Even though its basically Vocaloid osu, I want it anyways!

  • RawrWata

And mean while PSO2 and Phantasy Star Nova for EU/NA release are no where to be seen. :D

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Wow Sega since you got altus you’ve been localizing more games. another one added to the list

  • Muddied_Waters

I imported a Japanese 3DS just to play this game. I do not regret anything and will happily buy another copy to support the Western release. The game is so fun and cute to warrant it, anyway. I really love the touch mode of the rhythm game.

  • SobriK

I’m extremely happy about this – and not just because it’s a game I’ve wanted to play for a long time. Having it scheduled for a 2015 release means I’ll have time to clean out my handheld backlog before it launches. Hell, I might even be done with Persona Q by then!

  • nekolife

I couldn’t get into this game at all. Something about the super-deformed midgets dancing was just creepy and unappealing. And I usually think SD art is cute.

Gameplay ways I didn’t find it very compelling either, so it’s sat on the shelf ignored. :(

  • Rose Spinoza

Me: Hm. Not a fan of the art style, I pass…
Article: But you can change the voices on the songs! Also Gumi!

    • Sadly Gumi is only available with her extremely limited (but awesome) costumes is in 1, 2 Fanclub. We don’t get her as a usable character otherwise ;-;

But there still are songs like Matryoshka and Invisible so it’s not a loss.

      • Rose Spinoza

Mm. I see. Well, I’m mostly happy we’re getting her vocals in a few songs at least. Matryoshka is one of my favorite songs!

  • HououinKyouma

THANK. YOU. I was planning to buy a Japanese 3DS just to play this!

    • Suki

You and me both. I struggled with the decision and just forgot all about it. Now we get a chance to play and I couldn’t be happier!

Also, Sega must be really happy with Project Diva sales over here. I’d scream for a Project Diva Arcade box in the US. *hint hint*

  • YAY!!!! I really didn’t think we were going to get this and just put it aside. Already another game to look forward to in 2015.

  • Pandakids09 .

Glad SEGA finally seen how popular Vocaloids are in the West

    • Zazon Zenzy

Then my saying is true: SEGA US only cares Sonic and Miku… sigh.

  • Not sure what this game was like but someone said Miku’s OSU so I’m looking forward to it :P

  • PlayLife

Yay SEGA is little by little learning that people from Europe/America also enjoy japanese games; now start localizing Yakuza 5, PSO2 and start development on Shenmue 3 ;)
Anyway I’m glad this is coming, high-five for SEGA.

  • kandori

I’m happy about this, but too bad it’s not coming out this year. I guess my 3DS will remain on the shelf for a while longer.

  • Max

What exactly is the enchancement over Mirai 2?

    • ronin4life

I’m gonna guess it has the patch pre-installed, and the fact it is coming to the West…?
I’m wondering myself if they will add songs or extra bonus doo-dads.

  • Astraea’s Eyebrow

  • DS23

    Very exciting news.

  • ShugoTakahashi

I read over their official post and I can’t find any mention of enhanced features. The listed features are all already included in Project mirai 2, so I’m assuming this is just going to be mirai 2 with translations. (They can’t very well call it ‘2’ if there was no ‘1’ in the west, after all.) You might wanna amend your article.

I already own the Japanese version, but this is great news anyway. It means my Japanese 3DS is finally obsolete; all the Japan-only games I used it for are getting localized. Always good news when more games come to the west.

…well I guess I do still use my JP 3DS for GB Picross 2 on Virtual Console, ha.

    • Neppygear

The PR release mentioned that it’s an enhanced version of Mirai 2, it’s not just Siliconera being wacky.

Who knows, maybe they’re just yet to announce the enhancements.

    • Perhaps you should have read a little more carefully?

“Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI Remix (working title), an enhanced version of the popular Japanese video game Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI 2, will launch in the West on Nintendo 3DS in 2015…”

      • ShugoTakahashi

How the heck did I miss that? I swear I read it like three times.

  • Serephitus

    Hell yes, chibi Miku!

  • buhyA

Will this game contain both PM 1 and 2?

    • ShugoTakahashi

PM2 already contains all the songs and outfits from PM1, so yes.

    • Max

      Not necessarily.
PM2 includes all the songs and costumes from PM1, but the gameplay modes/modules are completely different.

  • Ren Yuumei

  • Zazon Zenzy

Better give the US PSO2, SEGA, since they’re crying out loud…!

(Squealing in excitement of this announcement, though)

  • Kayriss Wins

FINALLY, I’ve always wanted to play the 3DS titles and now we get to play the 2nd Mirai title and it’s an enhanced version?! I’m gonna faint… but that 2015 release window is a little disappointing.

  • *squee*

  • Eric Quaresma

  • 2015 is a bit too far away. But hey, this is great news!

  • kliskur
