Aksys To Publish Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters In North America

By Ishaan . July 4, 2014 . 3:30pm

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is coming to North America, courtesy of Aksys Games. This is a quirky visual novel RPG that features a quirky system where you lay out sensors and traps atop a map to detect enemy movement.

When you aren’t hunting ghosts, there’s also an in-game board game that you can play, which functions similarly to the main game.

The game will be released for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in 2015.

    But is it quirky?

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

I was genuinely interested on this. VN’s in english are on fire this week :p

  • DesmaX

Will it crash a lot, like Xblaze?

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

    A nice surprise.

  • klkAlexar

I’m interested, but i wonder why it has such low rating in Amazon. Oh well, I’m planning on buying it anyway.

    • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

It’s just an alright game. A lot of people who played it expressed the fact that this game looks eye-candy but the story (the AVG aspect of it) is very short. It’s basically a 26 episode anime crammed into 10-12 episodes due to budget constraints.

Also, make sure to use a guide for this game if you’re hunting for specific endings as it’s quite vague – but feel free to ignore if you want.

Battle scenes are a bit drawn out and tedious.
But the shortness of the story and the drab storytelling is what really makes this………… meh.

      • new_tradition

Any word on how long a play through is? If there’s multiple endings, is there some point you can save at and then just reload from there to continue to pairing specific outcomes?

        • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

Yes, definitely, have you played XBlaze? It’s around the same length if you want to achieve all routes. If you’re not skipping and taking your time and fully enjoying each game experience – I would say at least 12 hours+ hours for each route. And shorter after you finish each route of course.

Total playthrough would be around 25hrs+.

Both games are made by ASW.

But despite what I said, would I recommend it? 100% :)

All I wanted to do is temper the expectations a bit. It’s really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really

a fantastic looking VN with mature characters.

          • Zoozbuh

“Total playthrough would be around 25hrs+.”
Interestingly, that’s about the exact playtime I had for Virtue’s Last Reward. So definitely not a short game in any sense.

          • neocatzon

Ok, definitely going to get this one. Most handheld VN I had clocked around 30 hours, this is just perfect.

  • Jesse

    Aw yeah, I was hoping for this. Fate Extra CCC as well, but unless it’s another game they announced today, I guess it means that game’s time is up, unfortunately. ^^;

    • lackofstyle

      one can dream, right?

      • Jesse

        Yeah, I guess it’s still not 100% impossible, though at this point, there’s almost no way it won’t be digital only. ^^;

    • Aristides

I will never accept this! Ever! We must have CCC ;_; (lol)

    • Will John

CCC is already being fan translated. It should go fast since they have a good amount of translators.

    • Land of Green Pasture

Something strange in the nei-ba-haad? I’ll just join in then #ifyoukno

  • Kornelious

Haven’t heard much about this game, Though it’s for PS3 and Ps Vita so it’s caught my interest…….Has anyone played it?

  • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

This is an AVG where the protagonist isn’t shown but the plot acknowledges you, the player, as a male character. You’ll also get character specific endings/CGs (?) which end similar to how FEA character confession ends – you get a love proposal of some sort.

And both male and female characters can propose to you.

But the story is very short. It’s definitely crammed in and… ugh… you’ll get sick of the “nice animations” after a while…

    • new_tradition

Thanks for the info. I wonder…If they never ever show what the MC looks like, could Aksys choose to localize the dialog so that it’s gender neutral?

      • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

Nope, you never see yourself in the game – you know, one of those complete self-insert AVG experiences.

The good – fantastic artwork, beautiful anime artwork with a strong sense of realism in it – if you have the OLED Vita then you’re in for a complete treat.

The bad – unfortunately and bluntly, the story sucks. The story is very short. Feels crammed due to budget. Battle very tedious for some reason. But hey, don’t let this discourage anyone from picking this up. You may? like it?

I liked it myself. I liked the eye candy and the confession scenes. Again, fantastic artwork.

Did I mention… really really beautifully drawn fingers?

        • Zoozbuh

Well hey if it was JUST a VN, your post would probably discourage me from buying it. But it seems to have an interesting sort of gameplay element I haven’t seen before as well as the story, so hopefully it’s still alright.
+ Gorgeous art is always a good selling point. Dem fingers.

    • Ladius

Your posts down below sound a bit more positive than this one, since you said the game still has some 25+ hours of contents and you would recommend it 100%.

To be honest I doubt anyone is expecting this to be the next FSNE17S;G, so I imagine people will still be able to enjoy it.

  • http://nichegamer.net/ bf313

Kinda wish that this was Liberation Maiden: SIN instead but whatever.

    • Solomon_Kano

That’d be kind of tough, seeing as its a Level-5 game. They have their own international branch.

  • Ash_Riot

Wow. Really cool surprise. Game looks great, looking through the other articles.

  • Rinne111

    so no Fate/Extra CCC:(:(:(

    • Aristides

      Yeah where’s F/E CCC? ;_;

  • PenguinPlayer

Hell yes, I was waiting for this.

  • Hexodious

Seems like Aksys got their hands full this year, eh? Well no matter, they aren’t that big of a company, so that’s expected.

  • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

Gasp! I had always thought this game looked interesting. Aksys, you are awesome! Will definitely be getting this one.

    • Testsubject909

Damnit! Each time I see an Hiimdaisy Adachi picture. I always expect some chatter about Murders….

      ….

Well. They’re Ghost Hunters. Them Ghosts must’ve come from somewhere.

  • Solomon_Kano

Somehow this passed me by entirely. I didn’t even know this was a thing in Japan, but I’ll bite.

  • Ladius

I like what I see of this game’s art direction, and the director being the same as the Tokyo Majin Gakuen series makes it even more interesting. I’m glad to see Aksys sticking to multiplatform visual novel releases for both handhelds and home consoles, I hope they are a success for them.

  • Michael Richardson

Cool. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this.

  • Yagami Mao

    yay! ^^

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Well, that’s…completely unexpected. Aksys, you’ve really come into your own!

  • Zoozbuh

I freakin LOVE Aksys lately for their localisation choices!! And most of their games are importable/on PSN, so as someone in the UK, I still love them! <3

    • Mordina

Absolutely! I also love them for this :)

  • Ric Vazquez

Well played Aksys, glad that many VN are coming our way lately.
