Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Headed To PS3 And Vita

By Ishaan . July 4, 2014 . 9:31am

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax will be released this Fall in Japan for PlayStation 3 and Vita, Dengeki Online has revealed.

The fighting game is developed by French Bread and is a crossover fighter featuring characters from a number of ACII Media Works’ publications. It includes characters from Durarara!!, Accel World, Shakugan no Shana and other anime franchises.

Dengeki says the console version of the game will have more content than the arcade version did, but does not go into specifics.

  • Woohoo! Fighting games make easy imports, so I’ll be enjoying this on my Vita.
What a time to be alive, getting to beat everyone up as Shizuo, with support from Kino or Boogiepop.

    • colorblindnightmare

Actually. Shizuo and boogiepop are a good team.

  • ARMs7777

So does this game have any chance of coming to the west?

    • Go2hell66

I’d say so, especially if you look at some of the other fighting games that have been localised recently

    • 7743

Just get it off Japanese PSN, when they put it up there. I think chances aren’t great it will come out here, but Aquapazza made it, so…

      • Renaldi Saputra

hmm but I think the licensing issue on this game is pretty high unlike Aquapazza

    • Kornelious

      But don’t you realize…….THAT IS STEP 2! >:D

    • Vesperion

Chances are about as low (if not lower with the Sega content) as Aquapazza. It took like 2 years, but it did make it to the states

      • murinto

It blew my mind when I heard they were localizing aquapazza.
It made me feel as though anything could get localized.
        localized eventually, anyways.

        • Renaldi Saputra

nope, I think what aquapazza got localized is bcos of the developer…

this will have a bunch of licensing issue, so I doubt. Maybe will be just like J-Stars

  • Hagaren

Very nice! I’ll be importing this and Under Night In-Birth. (assuming none of them get western releases)

    • carlospsp

They will all be released in english, be sure of it.

      At least unib

      • Hagaren

        Let’s hope so!
All I need is some patience, because normally I’d insta-buy these the moment they’re out in Japan. :)

    • i 2nd ths but arc did give us aqua and arcana so it could happen….

      • Hagaren

Actually I’m only worried about Dengeki because I’m assuming, like J Stars Victory Vs, there will probably be licensing issues, since it’s a crossover. But, at the end of the day, even if they won’t, fighting games are easily playable even without reading the japanese menus and such.

  • Highasthesky

  • MSJ

it’s great to finally have a console release date also French Bread my favorite developer for fighting games <3 I hope they have time to add some 2-4 more characters to the roster for the console release.

  • Kornelious

HAHA! It was only a matter of time :D

Now step one is complete (With the Vita being step 1.5)…..Now we move onto step 2 >:)

    • otakumike

localization? I know i’d buy the crap outta this.

      • Kornelious

        Indeed :D

    • 오렌지

If Aquapazza could get localized, there is always a chance. Atlus published Aquapazza. And look, SEGA owns Atlus.

      • Renaldi Saputra

I think there hasn’t been any SEGA game were localized by ATLUS

  • Vesperion

    Kirino’s been waiting for this

  • John Diamond

erm capcom where’s xbox 360 + psp support?

    • Kevin Komic O’Shea

psp development is dead. no one is making anymore PSP games.

      • IS | 桂木

The Xbox brand is also dead in Japan. No one develops on it anymore aside from AAA companies

  • friendly neighborhood_dude

Localization or not this game WILL BE BOUGHT DAY ONE!

  • pokeslob

    HYPE LEVEL=HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ASCII Media Works*

  • Alberto Maytorena

    Man, good for French-Bread.

  • DemonicX

Awesome news! Now this needs to be localized….which will probably not happen. T_T

  • BentoBlame

I was hoping that they would release more characters before console release but great news regardless! Can’t wait to try out Shana.

    • yahavcd

“Dengeki says the console version of the game will have more content than the arcade version did, but does not go into specifics.”
      We might get more characters

  • benhofb

HELL YEAH! Even if this doesn’t get picked up for a localization, I would totally import. Awesome news!

  • vault2049

Localization, PLEASE! I want this game so bad…

    • DingLayGorFe

seriously, why do u need English for a fighting game?

      • vault2049

I wouldn’t mind about the English. It’s almost all (90%) about the price. Sigh…The inconveniences of living in a third world country. I guess you wouldn’t know.

      • friendly neighborhood_dude

        Importing can be expensive.

        • 7743

Get Japanese PSN cards off websites, maybe sharing the price with someone else. Nowadays there’s a download version of every game on the Japanese PSN. I’m from a developing country myself, so, for me, they really come in handy. No need to pay for shipping, deal with customs or have the game taxed when it arrives here.

          • vault2049

Right, it’s an option. Still, they charge like 10$ plus the original value of the card. IMO, the most expensive method. If you find a website that sells the cards ‘cheap’, let me know.

      • So you can uhhhh i dunno
        . Read the menus!
        .The command list !
.And read the text the characters say after they win the fight.

I don’t really care for English voices but if i cant understand anything in the game that annoys me !

      • aizen310

Dunno… because SEGA may implement new game modes that needs you to understand the text? A complete Story mode, or a carefully created challenge mode or something more unique like BlazBlue’s Abyss mode or Guilty Gear’s M.O.M?
For the fighting, sure, you can pick up and play. Or not. If you are a somewhat noob player, you still need to tackle the training mode, and guess what? Japanese training mode is just a guessing game for all the people who don’t speak japanese. Think a little.

      • mikanko

Really, I’d only want it to be localized so there’s a chance more people outside of Japan would be playing it for online play.

It’s super unlikely to happen regardless, and chances are the netcode will be bad.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      1. Licensing issue just like J-Stars
      2. I heard the publisher is SEGA, so we already know where this is going

    • Dark Zerato

Localization for this game is involved with a bunch of license. It would be a pain to deal with.

      • vault2049

I, know. Thus my emphasis on “please”. In the worst of cases, I’ll get it digital. I still have some credit on my JPN PSN account (just checked).

      • friendly neighborhood_dude

        I forgot about the licenses…
        So yeah no localization.

  • Based Ignacio Puppo

Please let it come in a physical format, please!

  • Fsteak

If by ‘more content’, they mean playable Maou, then call me hyped.

  • HououinKyouma

More and more news. Of course, I was expecting this to come on Vita since the day it was announced. Nice!

  • buddyluv324

Now I know what game to import for my Vita! ^_^

  • Dark Zerato

Hope for Accelerator. There’re a bunch of target for his infamous punch.

    • Hagaren

Yes! I’m still disappointed Touma’s not playable. Misaka is great but having Accelerator there would be even more awesome.

      • Dark Zerato

Touma is special. He’s nearly almighty in the Raildex universe. But what could his imagine breaker do with someone like Shizuo ? His strength is of a normal person. I’d like to call him one punch man because his fight usually end up with a punch to K.O his opponent. He’s really not fitted for a fighting game.

        • AkuLord3

Its a fighting game…even if the person isn’t a fighter doesn’t mean developers can’t come up moves for the character. Let’s throw away show logic (unless it has stuff to do with their abilities and such blah blah) i mean Kirino playable, so its FIEN.

        • Kamakuma

But Touma himself is a brawler when it comes down to it. :’o I’d say he should be more than welcome after all this is a man who goes out of his way punching nuns so hard they have flashbacks and repent… x’D

But yea in any case I could see him playing like hot Shiki did in Melty Blood having multiple counters that would need to be timed and for his specials his famous punch. Of course there would be be nerfing here and there but I’d say it was more than possible.

  • DoctorButler

    Playable Akira.

  • aizen310

This game is going to be so much better and technical than J-Stars Victory VS. I already see myself being sick by the lack of sleep because this game will KICK SO MUCHO A**! Kirino mained lol

    • GÍlgamesh Goldenking

XD there is Under night in birth exe late is also coming lol looks like ps3 era is coming to an end that’s why there are so many awesome games releasing

      • aizen310

You just had to remind me, right? You just had to! XD

        • GÍlgamesh Goldenking

Aizen-sama you play game too XD

          • aizen310

Of course. Mind games. My favorite :D

    • Guest

      2d compare 3d games lol

      • aizen310

J-Stars is not a decent fighter, that’s a fact. It’s a comparison between 2D and 3D. It’s a comparison between how much skill the game will need, and how many options you have to obliterate your enemies. J-Stars lacks of said options and is painfully unbalanced, so if you pick your character right, you just as well declare yourself a winner or loser. It’s litterred with bad design choices, like Yusuke’s Mazoku form, Bleach characters’ slow motion evasion move “Flash Step”, Vegeta’s moveset is overly spammable, Taro Yamada, nearly all of the forms in the game (only Naruto is done right transformation wise)… and Aizen can’t transform into it’s Monster or Hogyoku form (no, not the butterfly form, it’s the form between condom and butterfly, the plain long-haired Aizen, the one playable in Bleach: Soul Resurrección)

That’s why I think that this plain fighter will be much better than J-Stars Victory VS. Simple, straightforward, more skillbased… like a REAL fighter.

        • Bobby Jennings

Everything you mentioned has nothing to do with J-Stars’s depth as a fighter. You’re just mentioning Fanservice that was missed.

Honestly for the first game to be done like this, J-Stars did very well.

I look forward to a sequel.

And there’s no doubt traditional fighters beat down casual fighters. In the end, it all depends which one is more fun than the other.

          • aizen310

J-Stars is just no fun in competitive modes.

            Also I said:
“J-Stars lacks of said [fighting] options and is painfully unbalanced, so if you
pick your character right, you just as well declare yourself a winner or
loser.” – and this is barely about fanservice and more about the lack of moves and general balance.
I’m waiting for J-Stars Victory VS 2… though once there was a time when I also waited for a Bleach: Soul Resurrección 2 :/
If anything, I want DIMPS or 8ING to handle a future PS3 J-Stars Vistory VS title… or just ditch the VS engine and go nuts with a Marvel vs Capcom-like engine.

          • Bobby Jennings

            Marvel Vs Capcom?

No thanks. Let them stick to the 3D gameplay.

A lot of games aren’t fun competitively if you’re getting your ass beat.

All J-Stars needs is more combo options. It did really good with the roster as well.

          • aizen310

You couldn’t recognize a good fighter even if it would be shoved in your face. Fine then, defend your c***. Fact: J-Stars is awful. And I’m done with the topic.

          • Istillduno

            J-Stars isn’t a fighting game.

It’s also a godawful as a racing game, puzzle game and air combat simulator.

            Apples and freaking oranges man.

          • aizen310

Then what? An epic RPG adventure? Don’t be delusional my friend :(
Bleach: Blade Battlers 2nd proved to me that even a party fighter can be competitive on high-level play with the right defensive moves implemented. Guard, Evade, Throw, Counter-Throw, Parry, Guard Break, Combo Break. Guess how many of these features are presented in J-Stars VVS. As a fighter, it is disappointing. But what is it, if not a fighter? Not to mention Namco Bandai hyped the game as a fighter.

It’s apples and apple-wannabes, as I see it.
Also it’s not a matter of 2D or 3D. It’s not the PS1 era anymore. With enough imagination, developers could do justice in 3D games too. Be it an arena like 3D game or Street Fighter 4-like. Even Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had a decent moveset with both offensive and defensive maneuvers.

          • Bobby Jennings

            J-Stars isn’t a fighter though honestly.

And that’s an opinion, not fact bro.

Don’t get upset now, it’s only a discussion.

FYI: I love me some Persona 4 Arena and Blazblue, just sayin.

          • GÍlgamesh Goldenking

The thing that i hate in J-stars is my fav chatacter yusuke’s demon form sucks -_- seriously man seriously its so broken why is it necessary for yusuke to die in demon form

  • GÍlgamesh Goldenking

Just a question is by any chance rentarou or enju-chan will be there because i saw a post of saying irregular at magic high school miyuki and tatsuya and also saw mentioned about black bullet

    • Rentaro is playable with Enju support.

      • GÍlgamesh Goldenking

*w* yes yes my life is complete i like rentaro lol black bullet is my fav anime and also shana is there too i have no regrets anymore

  • Raging Rasta

I wanted Kaori Kanzaki in this game. Oh well.

  • MrJechgo

“Dengeki says the console version of the game will have more content than the arcade version did, but does not go into specifics.”

I’ll welcome more characters, as always ^_^

However.. that’s yet another game that won’t be localized :(

    • Kurizu208

Since it is a fighting game that isn’t too bad. Not very text heavy being a fighting game.

      • MrJechgo

The text isn’t the problem; the licensed characters are…
In Japan, all these characters belongs to ONE studio/company.
Elsewhere, the rights get splitted amongst MULTIPLE studios…

Good luck getting everyone to agree on an understanding about the rights and the revenues from it…

        • Kurizu208

Woah woah there tiger, my comment was about importing.

To be clear what I meant to say was “No localization isn’t to big of a deal for this game since it is very import friendly with not a lot a text because it is a fighting game.”

          • MrJechgo

            I see…
Still… not too keen on importing… especially after how Canada priced the extra charges for products across the border. I once imported 2 DS games and God, it costs me like $40 more than expected XS

          • Kurizu208

For physical yeah it can be expensive it just depends. Digital is way cheaper if it will be available for this game.

          • ishyg

It will probably be on digital form, since I think it’s required for Vita titles to have digital forms.

      • aizen310

        >It’s a fighting game.
        >Text heavy.

We don’t know what extras console gamers get so be wary with statements like that :)

  • BalmungX

Yeah,so maybe more characters, but please put the characters I want as playable not as support as you’ve doing

  • Armageddon

    YESSSSSS! that is all. LOCALIZE!!!!

    • Renaldi Saputra

the previous dengeki bunko never got localized, seems this one too
      bcos of SEGA

      • Armageddon

No idea about the first one, but this one has some awesome characters.

        • Renaldi Saputra

no matter how the character is, all matter is the publisher and licensing issues they must face

          • Armageddon

            damn you SEGA

          • Renaldi Saputra

not only bcos sega, but the licenses from dengeki

          • If NISA (one hell of a smaller company that SEGA) can do it with ZHP’s Dengeki cameo costumes, then SEGA can easily do so with Fighting Climax.

          • Renaldi Saputra

nope, you certainly don’t know what a big company think

          • Armageddon

I wonder if NISA is allowed to publish this? because if there is anyone who can think it’s them.

          • Renaldi Saputra

            nope, certainly not.

          • MrJechgo

I keep thinking that Sega and Dengeki themselves should publish and localize the game for an international release WITHOUT having to deal with license holders.

Don’t really care if it’s sub with Japanese dub, I just want this game to be localized in English IN ORDER to be able to play it on my NA PS3.

Then again, would it be THAT hard to have every North American license holder in a meeting room, have Sega and Dengeki come in, pitch the project, explain that they each hold licenses from the same studio (which I’m sure the holders aren’t even aware of) and ask for their cooperation for localization? It’s not like the license holders would refuse anyway, because I’m sure that they can agree on how the whole profit would be managed.

          • Bobby Jennings

            You could always import.

          • Renaldi Saputra

it’s not that they refuse or not, but the budget of licensing them. The demand of this kind of fighting game aren’t high, only dedicated fanbase. You know, SEGA now only care of Sonic and Miku

  • ShinNeoGranzon

“Dengeki says the console version of the game will have more content than the arcade version did” Hopefully this means that there will be more playable characters, and hopefully some of them will be male. Are there even any playable males other than Shizuo, Rentarou, and Kirito (who Gun Gale Online and fanfiction is making me doubt is even male)?

  • Rawindra

Maybe sightly new sprites (like attacked (crumple (especially while get ground KO (mostly by normals, also Death by Embracing, & Shizuo and Kirito’s throw should be this), twist parabolic, wall bounce, face hits), able to OTG. Needs Yuji Sakai, Ariadust, Emi (she has Mao as assist right?), Takumi (in Cyan Pile form), Izaya, and Accelerator. I don’t think Akira fits as final boss, rather as playable mid boss actually. needs another 6 guests (2 Sega left & 4 Tecmo Koei (due to partnership w/ Sega since DOA5. 1 is a final boss). Sakura Shinguji should be count this since Dengeki publish the manga of her series, Sonic’s kinda too unique for human-like creature in the game, Ryu Hayabusa always the best, perhaps Ayane too, and Atelier’s Sterkenburg being a knight is perfect since there’s swordsmen (Kirito & Shana) and princesses (Asuna, Kuroyukihime, Miyuki). Speaking of final boss in place of Akira for console ver., why am i thinking about WO series’ titular antagonist as a better final boss? Perhaps his godlike powers, serpent and scythe attacks would be like SNK boss.

  • Don’t let me swing my pimp hand and tell you guys ‘I told you so!’

I was really surprised that SEGA even announced a handheld version. We need more games like these for the VITA! :)

  • Armageddon

Maybe I should just say it. The psvita is the best handheld for anime games from what I see.
But then, again only time will tell.

  • Aristides

I hope Atlus localizes this :3

  • Harvey Tejada Loto

  • ishyg

Yep, I’ll not wait for localization on this one. I’m going to buy it day one when it launches. After being hooked on LN-anime adaptations just recently (yes, I’m quite late in the anime game), I definitely need this.

  • Grunwald

My wallet is crying tears of blood

  • Anthony Birken

    Sold, I WILL import

  • Tam Thisoneguy Ngo

I doubt there will be a American release.
All that Copyright it has to go through lol
