Ar noSurge English Screenshots Show Off The Game’s Localization

By Ishaan . July 11, 2014 . 6:26am

Koei Tecmo have shared a large batch of screenshots for Ar noSurge: Ode to an Unborn Star, featuring a glimpse of the game’s English-language localization. You can check the screenshots out below. Here’s how the publisher describes them:

An array of new images focuses on the playable characters Delta, who came through the barrier of Felion to protect humans as part of the Special Forces team and Earthes, a strange combat robot who helps the mysterious Ion with her quest. Also featured are Ion and Casty, the heroines of Ar noSurge: Ode to an Unborn Star, who have the ability to create magic with their song.

Ion (Ionasal kkll Preciel) seems to be aware of details about the world that none of her contemporaries know and is adept in engineering, always tinkering with machines and creating strange devices. Casty on the other hand is a cheerful human girl from Felion whose ability to use Song Magic has earned her a spot in the Special Forces’ ‘Genomis task force’.

Ar noSurge: Ode to an Unborn Star will be available in North America on September 23rd and in Europe on September 26th for PlayStation 3.

    Just 2 more months… *_*

  • Eric Harris

please release this on vita. Then I’ll buy it. With the way it’s going though, this will likely be a digital only release on vita. Oh well guess I’ll wait til it’s $25 on PS3.

    • There’s a Vita version (a Plus version with PS3 DLC and extra content) that was just announced – coming out 2nd October. Just be patient.

      • Eric Harris

        whaaaa? Where? MUST SEE!

        • Sorry, forgot to mention it was announced for Japan. A western release will have to wait.

  • Masa

Betwen now and December…a list of games i want to buy,
i need to rob a bank to afford them all, lol.

    Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate
    Samurai Warriors 4
    Natural Doctrine
    Dragon Age: Inquisition
    Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
    Assassin’s Creed Unity
    The Evil Within
    Far Cry 4
    Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed
    Tales of Xillia 2
    Risen 3: Titan Lords
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin F – Coffin of the End
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution
Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star
    Fairy Fencer F
    Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX

    • I know how you feel I’ve pre-ordered so much I’ve had to cancel some games ¬_¬ Though a lot on there I’m not bothering with,

      • Masa

I might have to do the same. :(
Will probably buy the rpgs and the not so popular games first as i find they are harder to find once they have been out for awhile.

        • Ladius

I couldn’t agree more, niche games are the ones that need more support, the ones with smaller print runs and the ones less likely to see fast price drops.

    • Eric Harris

has Super Robot Taisen OG Saga been announced for the west? SHOW! MUST SEE.

      • Masa

nope, it hasn’t, never will, xD.

    • Ladius

I’m also looking forward to Tales of Hearts R, Disgaea 4’s updated version and Danganronpa 2 (plus Sword Art Online, even if I’m already playing the Asian version), there are definitely lots of interesting games coming in the second half of 2014.

    • Kornelious

I need pretty much everything on that list except for The Evil Within, Far Cry 4, Destiny, Risen 3, and SRT: OGS………….You can see where my affiliation lies :P

  • fyi1191

I think I saw some Japanese in some screens there.

  • I can’t wait for this

  • I love tecmo koei! no unnecesary name changes like stupid nisa, I won’t forgive them for changing Efolle to ethel in fairy fencer f. (source that nisa isn’t translating )

    • aquagon

Though they are still doing some changes with the names, two of which were bad enough that I had to send them an e-mail on the matter:

Shelanoir -> Sharanoir (we got the spelling for this from Singing Hill -Ar=Ciel Ar=Dor- four years ago).

Nero -> Nelo (is supposed to be an anagram of REON: one of the in-game languages and an AI that had an extremely important role in the times of Ciel nosurge. Plus, the name “REON” can be seen written in romaji at several points in the game, including in the Interdimend interface shown in the opening video and during the Phase changes).

    • Andrew A

So, the EU release is being localized in house but the US version is going to be localized by NISA?

      • Ladius

No, both versions should be localized by Tecmo Koei, it would make no sense to have two different localizations for the same game in the same language. It’s still unclear why NISA teased the Ar nosurge logo, though.

        • Justin Graham

And Koei Tecmo’s US Twitter account confirmed that they are publishing the game. I have zero idea what NISA was talking about, either.

    • DyLaN

Both Effole and Ethel sounds “exotic” (I could just say “chuunibyou” but w/e) anyway. But really, its still within acceptable range.

Also I wonder why PKM get the pass for this practice somehow. Is it because of the “main stream”-ness?

      • NeptuniasBeard

        PKM = …Pokemon?

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Because a lot of the Japanese pokemon names kind of suck.

    • NeptuniasBeard

I never get why people get up in arms over every little name change. It’s like they never played a Pokemon game before, or at least a Mario. Unless it like, breaks the plot or something, then it’s not that big a deal. Like if the main character in the original was called Yugdab, as a sign of forshadowing that he’s really the main villain, but then he got localized to Keith, which IS like, the third most evil name ever, but loses pretty much all meaning.of the original.

      • shadowind

It’s the same with those who complain about censorship that’s necessary for a game to come out in English; the most infamous examples being Monster Monpiece and the Mugen Souls series.

I hate censorship as much as the next person, but at the same time, I thank God I’m not one of those types that throws a huge tantrum over necessary censoring in something like a videogame.

  • Alexander Aubert

can i understand this story without playing ciel no surge?

    • aquagon

You’re better off reading at least a summary, as there are many things Ar nosurge takes for granted from its players, such as the main parts of Ciel nosurge’s story or the relationships between its characters.

And by the way, “nosurge” is supposed to be a single word, as demonstrated by the titles of both games and by the song titles from this one.

      • Alexander Aubert

        thanks for the great reply!

  • Aristides

I can’t wait to play this game… on my Vita! :3

  • Oh my god. Awesome! Now….*crosses fingers for Vita version*

  • So much beauty and action in these screens. I can’t wait to play this. With all the games coming out, I’m going to be so broke this Fall lol

  • DyLaN
  • Shadow Rebirth

Question: should i play Ar series before this? or is there something i need to know about this game?

    • aquagon

It would be advisable, as there is a point near the end of the game that has next to no meaning if you haven’t played the Ar tonelico games.

      • Shadow Rebirth

        oh, ok. thanks.. :)

    • doubleO7

I would say it helps, but isn’t entirely necessary to enjoy this game.

  • Kornelious

looking good so far. It’s amzing how fast this is coming along!

I hope that they can localize Ciel no Surge and the Vita port just as fast…….RIGHT TECMO! >:)

  • Will the cat song make a return? :P
