A Large Batch Of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Screenshots

By Ishaan . July 29, 2014 . 11:01am

Bandai Namco have shared a large batch of screenshots of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment via their Facebook page, in an album titled “Floor 77”. Unfortunately, the screenshots are all from the Japanese version of the game, and don’t feature any localized text.

Swords Art Online: Hollow Fragment takes place at the end of the first Sword Art Online arc. Kirito’s fight against Heathcliff is interrupted by a glitch in the system, and the game starts you out on floor 76, letting you explore up until the hundredth floor.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be released in North America on August 19th and in Europe on August 20th.

Anyone know where I can pre-order this? I can’t seem to find a place!

    • Manny Being Manny

You can’t, digital only titles only go up for preorder if its AAA games.

      • Nate

Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn had a preorder, and it was digital only. We won’t know until the week before.

      • Jorge

It’s digital only? I don’t remember reading that anywhere

        • Federico

I believe they said it when they first announced it was coming overseas.

          • Jorge

            Sad life

          • Giordan

Just get it to support games outside of Japan, ok?

          • Jorge

I’m getting it regardless. Physical is just nice. Pleading with me to buy it to support JRPGs stateside is preaching to the choir.

          • Giordan

I know, but considering Vita sales right now…

  • refrain

Dat Silica and Sinon! Can’t wait for this game, Disgaea 4 and Akiba’s Trip in August!

  • dark-kyon
  • Jadfish

I feel there is just a little too much focus on the girls aspect of SAO…. Is the gameplay fun? Does it play like an action game or do you issue orders in a tactics kinda way?

I absolutely loathe the SAO anime, but I love the premise and the setting so much that they can save it and make a great game out of it, so please god please let this be awesome

    • Christopher C

there are gameplay videos out there. youtube it.

  • Spirit Macardi

Is this going to have Bryce Papenbrook and the others reprising their roles? Because the English cast was most of the reason why I liked SAO.

    • Manny Being Manny

Sub only, as all digital only titles are

      • fireguardiancoty

The Atelier games would like to have a word with you.

        • Manny Being Manny

The Atelier games already had dubs made years ago so they added them in.

I’ll rephrase it, all brand new digital only titles are sub only.

The reason these games are digital only to begin with is because they don’t have a lot of confidence in their sales, so committing a lot of time and resources to a dub would be counterproductive.

          • darke

Pretty much. They probably came to the conclusion that it would cost more to produce/distribute the physical then the profit of additional physical sales would be. (Especially in the EU; which tends to import physical from the US anyway since it’s much cheaper.)

If the game sells well, they might decide it’s worth the financial risk to sell physicals of any sequels, like with Senran Kagura. But if people don’t want to buy it because it’s digital only, then the only thing the accountants can logically conclude is that it’s not a profitable series; not that “people aren’t buying because it’s digital”. (shrug)

          • Giordan

you don’t know that for sure.

      • Spirit Macardi

Well, then it looks like I’ll be passing this up.

Why the hell is Namco so cheap with these localizations? It’s not like they haven’t hired Bryce before, since he was Asbel in Tales of Graces.

  • Land of Green Pasture

Strea, Philia, and Sinon = Main Waifu Material

  • ElAbuelo69

    No physical? No buy.

    • Manny Being Manny

Well its not like they’d lose a sale, since this game is so niche that its either digital only or it wouldn’t be released at all.

      • nobitakun

Sadly, you’re right. But i prefer to spend money learning japanese than buying a digital copy and then getting the limited edition lol.

I hope someday people realize how bad is buying a digital copy, is like peeing over people that wants physical one, that way developers encourage to release digital only.

        • Manny Being Manny

Refusing to buy digitally just means we’d get less games localized over here to begin with. Buying digitally shows theres an audience and future games can get physical releases, like Project Diva on Vita and Senran Kagura.

          • Pyrotek85

Agreed. As much as I’d like a physical release, not buying it is just spiting myself and others, and ultimately hurts our chances of getting any further games period, physical or digital.

          • Isshak Gravi

            Thank you for getting it!

          • Natsu Dragneel

Normally I’d agree, but with PS Vita’s game sizes and limited MC space at high prices, this is a HUGE issue, I have a 64GB, I had to delete a game to put the Ratchet collection on today because it’s digital only… How the hell is one of Sony’s most successful names getting a Digital only release… It’s a excuse devs hope you’d buy. Sadly Namco doesn’t seem to have any form of real interest in Vita. The devs do maybe, but if we’re getting a Digital only release you’d think they could at least include a dub. I only buy DL if it doesn’t get physical, but I can only do so if they do something making it feel of value. Subbed only makes it feel cheap to me, but knowing Namco it’ll be more than $30, so like Dragon Ball I’ll wait till it hits $10 on sale at this rate lol. These guys might not even give us the +30 hour patch lol. Until that’s confirmed, I have no intent of purchasing this

          • God
    • Do what I did get the HK Asian version its physical and in English

    • Giordan

The game is a HUGE Vita game (around 3GB in size) so it’s cheaper for Namco.

  • TheGunheart

Kinda nervous that they didn’t bother to show any dialogue boxes. Hope the localization turns out alright.

    • James Reilly

Should turn out at least better then the English subs in the Taiwan version since it was very random to say the least.

      • Isshak Gravi

The English localization will be different for the EU/US version :)

    • X_Bacon

I was thinking exactly the same thing

    • Isshak Gravi

Hey! Bandai Namco EU CM here, don’t think too much of it! It’s honestly just because we’ve been a bit busy, and so asked a fan if he could help us out with some cool screenshots since he has the Japanese version, and the main content is the same :) The localization is fine.

    • I Have the English HK version and so far its fine

  • James Reilly

Wish the game had a limited physical run like Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus.

  • friendly neighborhood_dude

Ausna’s rapier looks really big for some reason…

  • Raltrios

    Sinon best grill.

  • That foul blue hair

    • Aristides

He looks like a drag queen XD

  • PreyMantis

Log Horizon would be a great game to make…

    • Natsu Dragneel

seeing that Log Horizon followed the laws of gaming alot more, it would likely be a much better game, I personally thought Log Horizon was the better show.

      • Takes quite a while to get there since the first few episodes just didn’t click for me, but eventually it got to be a ver interesting storyline ^ ^

    • Lemski07

Log horizon = different job classes = Fantasy life (3ds) 0_0

  • Kornelious

This is definitely my most anticipated Vita game coming out, even if it’s digital-only, And since Tales of Xillia 2 is coming out on the same day makes me even happier :D (And also that more broke X( )

I hope that they decide to localize the update as well……And a Limited physical release would be nice as well!…..No?…..Well you can’t blame me for trying :P

  • Renaldi Saputra

yet still no words about Re:Digitize Decode :/
even though those 46k petition numbers

    • Giordan

That doesn’t equal 46K in sales.

      • Renaldi Saputra

It hasn’t nothing to do with sales, just the existences

        • Giordan

:/ Sales are important to companies, though.

          • Renaldi Saputra

But it’s only proving that the fanbase is still strong and they should not forget about us. Heck, they can even localized a more niche title like Jojo

  • Astraea’s Eyebrow

I hope they don’t call Kirito “The Black Man” in the us version lol >_>

    • David García Abril

In the anime it was “The Black Swordsman”.

I know that racists have ruined the word “black” for a lot of people, but come on!

      • Croix Zapp

Meh, There is only 1 Black Swordsman for me: Guts

        • Aristides

          Truer words where never spoken.

      • Astraea’s Eyebrow

Actually I thought it was hilarious, i just felt other people might take it too far. =

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

i really hope this is noting like the psp one wear the character attacks on there own and all you do is lunch specials

    • Natsu Dragneel

Lets put it this way, even Japan didn’t like the PSP one LMAO. But they do actually like and enjoy this, The combat has been changed though

      • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

Really that’s a relief, so you attack when you want know?

  • I’m still not convinced with the game, personally Its really feels like its fell short it had the potential to be probably the best game on vita.

  • darkbartz

I think it’s hilarious how every screen here that has two females on it has at least one of them with a face that pretty much goes “Wow, this is awkward.”.

  • Lemski07

Im still 50/50 getting it since this coming months alot of games like akiba’s trip and disgaea4 will be out also im interested on some 3ds games too that will be soon be released…. neeed to dig further down my pocket. and Im tempted just to buy a 2nd hand r3 english version of it since its pretty much cheaper maybe than a newly released. and it has an option for a Japanese voice-over too if I’m not mistaken?
