Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds For Vita Delayed To Next Week In North America [Update]

By Ishaan . July 30, 2014 . 1:29pm

Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds was supposed to be released on PlayStation Vita yesterday, but the game never made it out. On their Facebook page, 5pb addressed the delay.

Update: The game has been delayed even further. It will now be released on August 12th, as opposed to August 5th.

Original story continued: 5pb stated: “Unfortunately, Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds Vita won’t be out today because reasons. New date is 8/5 (NA) and 7/30 (EU, with Kurisu DLC delayed until 8/6). Apologies for the inconvenience.”

Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds will cost $12 in North & South America and €10 in Europe. The Makise Kurisu DLC will cost $6 (North & South America) and €5 (Europe).

It’s been delayed to August 12th. No, I’m not joking.

  • 하세요

“Because reasons.” I don’t know why that made me laugh. Maybe it’s because that’s how I would handle it, just meaner. “Because fuck you, that’s why.”

    • Remlot

lmao, this is exactly what I thought when I read that

    • AuraGuyChris

      Because bears.

  • Will Jay

I didn’t even realize this was getting localized until now so all’s fine with me

  • Reki Honoo

Will we be getting any other dlc? I read a while back that the 360 version got two more characters after kurisu, and that there’s an exclusive vita character that was released in the japenese vita version.

    • NeoStrayCat

The DLC characters is still in the works though, its not yet finished

for some reason, but hopefully well get them soon, and also the PS4 port of PB:BG as well, someday.

  • Suriel Cruz

Why so many delayed dates? Why giving a date in the first place?

    • That’s something that’s always bothered me about the video game industry in general. Can you imagine a movie doing this? Right when it’s about to air in theaters… “Just kidding! It’ll release in a week or two, IDK.”

      • NeoStrayCat

You guys do know that 5pb is notorious for pushing back some of their game titles for newer dates, even in their own region, it happens, but yeah. >_>

        • Suriel Cruz

I didn’t know that, but with these delays I don’t think I will be a fan any time soon, I mean, I won’t trust them in the first place. Yeah!

          • NeoStrayCat

Don’t worry about it, if I can handle certain niche game always giving the boot on long delays, than this one is alright. But don’t worry, you might be a fan of it later, maybe. >_>

      • darke

What’s the quote? “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” or something.

Clearly the movie industry just doesn’t care if their product sucks.

        • ishyg

Well, a movie element isn’t going to be easily changed. But it’ll be a good laugh when it happens.

“Movie x will be delayed for a week due to an error in the dubbing. Please understand.”

That said, isn’t the reason for early screenings is for getting feedback?

And of course, there’s always an exception to the rule with that quote. Like Duke Nukem. As long as it doesn’t turn to “a delayed game is eventually cancelled”, it’s all good to me.

          • darke

As for Duke Nukem, there are always exceptions to the rule. :P

Aliens Colonial Marines was also another one that I recall doing the delayed/released/failed thing recently.

  • All Fiction

Is it any good ? It popped today on the EU PSN but I don’t find a lot of reviews for the Vita Ver, just for the 360 one but I don’t know if they are the same.
EDIT: Hey wait a sec, it is 14.49€, not 10€

    • MisterHoot

Pretty damn enjoyable so far. Think Scott Pilgrim with anime girls, but mostly with more satisfying combos and combat. I’ve only played the arcade quickly so far as a first taste though so can’t comment on the story

  • NyaBoy

The game cost 14.49€ in PSN Europe without DLC…

  • Yan Zhao

    “Because reasons”

    • James Reilly

Don’t want to bore the consumers with bureaucratic explanations. TLDR: Something happened so expect a mild delay.

  • Rintarou

    Not again. :'(

  • Kornelious

Because Reasons”….At least their honest XD

This was a little disappointing, but as long as we get this and the DLC next Tuesday, then my pitchfork and torches will have to wait another day :P

  • Vesperion

Ha! This sounds like what they said when Phantom Breaker was delayed on 360.

    days turned into weeks
    weeks turned into months
    months turned into years
    years turned into never

Granted i’m just over reacting. I’m sure it’ll be out next week

    • NeoStrayCat

8/12 now appearantly, at least unlike 7-S, and they are answering their responses over social media, at least. But yeah, the original PB for the English release, don’t remind me. >_>

    • darke

It’ll be the reverse of Persona 4 for the EU. :P

  • Kamakuma

Honestly this is one delay I’m kinda happy for. xD Only because I’m broke until my check comes in the mail so gives me more time to feed my wallet as September is nearly upon us….!

    • NeoStrayCat

At least your wallet wont be crying and at least will be happy for now. XD

  • I can wait a week I guess :)

I’ve got lot’s of RPG’s in my backlog to finish ‘nways, hehe

  • z_merquise

You might update the article. New release date is now August 12.

    Because reasons.

I read that the level cap for the game is only 50 and will increase to 99 when you buy the DLC character. Is that true?

    • NeoStrayCat

Yes, and its the same for the 360 version, don’t have the DLC, you’re stuck at Lv. 50 until you get it. Then you can get Kurisu and reach the max Lv. 99.

      • z_merquise

Dang. Why can’t they just turn the level cap to 99 right away and just charge for the DLC character?

Oh well. I’m still going to get the game. It looked so fun and I love 2D beat-em-ups.

        • NeoStrayCat

Yeah, would have been nice just to go straight to lv.99 w/o DLC, but you have to anyways, but hey, its still good, lol. :3

    • Wow, Phantom Breaker is just always going to be cursed, isn’t it? Thanks for the heads up!

    • ishyg

      That image is awesome.

  • Jumbokitty724

Is it only a Vita release? I’m cool with that but a ps3 release would be awesome. I don’t know enough Vita owners =/ So I can’t play it with anyone.

    • NeoStrayCat

Well, there’s a PS4 version in the works, but I would be surprised if they did a ps3 version, I mean, Constant C came out on PS3 eventually months right after its PC/360 release.

    • It’s on Xbox 360, too, if you happen to own that.

  • Limbless

$21.95 on the Australian store. More than I expected.

    • darke

it’s always more then we expect, or at least hope for.

Thankfully I’ve been playing on a US account for the last couple of months so I can get both the base game and expansion for less then the copy of the base game.

Granted, the AU version is *only* a 75% markup… (facepalm)

      • ishyg

I’ve been playing on a US account for years. And I’m not even from North America. Worse, I’m in Japan. So much confusion, but I’m glad PS hardwares are region-free. Because Pokemon and For the Sequel have English language pack on their Japanese cart, but you’ll never be able to play it on your US 3DS. :(

        • darke

I guess one benefit from being from the AU region is that I look at the JP game prices and don’t get price shock like American gamers apparently do. More along the lines of, “oh, these games are pretty cheap”. :(

That’s one thing I like with almost every indie game on the JP PSN is that they’ve still all got the English ‘translations’ in them. So if I get a game from PS+ from there I don’t have elsewhere it’s still easier on the brain to play.

Having fun playing through the Demon Gaze Global Edition too at the moment and occasionally swapping to the Japanese text whenever I need to grind rather then progress the story; much fun.

  • NeoStrayCat

If anyone wants to know, I guess, for them citing…”because reasons”, is probably this little sentence from a tweet.

“Turns out game submission is kinda crazy! We’ll do some giveaways to make up for it. Promise.”

That might be one reason, and I hope they really do give out some giveaways form that soon. But at least those in EU/PAL regions for now get to play it in English or something. But a 2 week wait for the NA region might be tough, but hopefully worth it.

    • darke

My math says one week (30th of the 7th, to 5th of the 8th), so it’s not as bad as you expected.

Edit: Of course now they update it to the 12th. :?

      • NeoStrayCat

        Yep, I guess…>_>

  • Damm it!

    • NeoStrayCat

      Darn it! >_>

  • Happy Gamer

    steam :(

    • NeoStrayCat

      We wish…>_>

  • Astraea’s Eyebrow

Anything Phantom Breaker seems to be riddled with delays lol

  • Wait, whaa?!

    • NeoStrayCat

      How I feel right now. -> T_T

    • Isuke-sama

      What anime is it?

      • Daverost

I didn’t watch it, but I -think- it’s Shugo Chara.

        • Christopher C

          you are correct.

  • Holy cow.

PB has had NO luck with US releases.

    • NeoStrayCat

Except for PB: Battle Grounds on the 360, but if you mean the series as a whole, then yeah. It can’t get a break. >_>

  • Seven of The Scions

My main account on my vita is region 3. will i get it?

  • I swear it was more than that on the PSN in the UK yesterday

  • leingod

Oh, if it’s because reasons, it’s okay. I understand.

  • Kayriss Wins

    Because of reasons? seems legit.

  • Nazar

Deal with it NA, enjoy your 2 week delay lmao. (Payback after the Freedom Wars bullshit)

  • Nazar

Lol look at the butthurt NA comments.
