While Square Enix made a lot of smartphone ports and spinoffs, they also developed the Chaos Rings series with Wild ARMs developer Media.Vision. Famitsu reports the fourth game in the series, Chaos Rings III, will be released simultaneously for iOS, Android, and PlayStation Vita.

The Vita version will be the first version of Chaos Rings sold in stores. Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy will cost 4,800 yen in stores or 4,300 yen as a download. The Chaos Rings series has three games currently out for smartphones – Chaos Rings, Chaos Rings Omega, and Chaos Rings II. Only Chaos Rings has been released for Vita as a PlayStation Mobile title. Chaos Rings III will cost 2,800 yen as a download for iOS or Android.

Square Enix also has a limited edition planned with a short story & art book, illustration book (which includes works by Final Fantasy artist Yusuke Naora and the artist from Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur), a CD with twelve remastered songs from Chaos Rings and Wild ARMs composer Noriyasu Agematsu, and a code for crossover content with Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur on Vita.

iPhone screen captures rather then from the vita? iPhone is 960×640 and vita is 960×544.

The screenshots you’re refering to are from an iPhone 5, hence the resolution is 1136 x 640.

…While we’re talking about iOS games, could you please release the FUCKING AWESOME Drakerider OST, Squenix? Please? Pretty please??

CRII was very impressive for a mobile game. One of the handful of mobile games i ever finished. Would love to try the series on vita

But how this game can get a retail release when other games get the dl only treatment, I dont even…

      You must be odd. /jk

  • Oh man, can’t wait! Keeping my fingers crossed for a localization :)

  • Death Saved

this is confusing me, will the Vita release have all of the games?

    • MK

Vita will have this game’s prequel trilogy, which are Omega, 1, and 2.

  • Guest

Is this the same as Chaos Rings Sigma, or a different game?
Edit: Never mind, not the same game.

Despite the buzz around the game where sites would herald it as a
true console JRPG on phones, I found CR on my PSV to be a subpar game.
The music was amazing, the graphics were below PSP quality, the game was
too easy, the battle mechanics were too dumbed down, the characters
were interesting but the plot was overly simplistic and the true end
presented a Deus Ex Machina argument to solve something that initially
lead you to believe required a lot more to be deal with~.

All in all, for $15 it was an almost okish game; I hope they’ll put a lot more
effort into this game than they did with the original CR. I’ve heard that Omega was copy + paste of CR, never saw reviews for CRII~.

The original Chaos Rings was probably the first iOS game I ever really dove into (and completed), but the sequels didn’t grab me all that much. This definitely looks like something different – but $28 for an iOS game is a touch ambitious, even for Square Enix.

Oddly, however, I’d have an easier time justifying the ~$40 Vita price tag assuming that its controls are in order.

  • I may have to look into the series a bit more.
    Also sad that they don’t have Michiko Naruke on-board as well. ;u;
