Dragon Quest IV Out On iOS App Store In New Zealand

By Ishaan . August 6, 2014 . 10:57am

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen has gone up on the iTunes App Store in New Zealand, which, judging by past instances, means it will be available later tonight in North America and the rest of Europe.

As previously reported, this version of the game is based on the Nintendo DS remake from a few years ago, and will include the bonus content from that game, including the bonus story chapter. It also has a quick save feature.

Whether the game will be available for both iOS and Android devices this week remains to be seen.

Food for thought:

An amusing typo on the New Zealand App Store lists the game as “Dargon Quest IV”. Presumably, the typo will be fixed by the time the game launches in other regions.

I guess they’ll release entries up to Dargon Quest VI: Realms of Revelaitons.

In all seriousness, I wish my DS case had this typo.

aaannnd AGAIN i open Siliconera and on the top i find DRAGON QUEST! i thought i read Dragon Quest VII Out on 3DS in US/EU GodDammit not again LOL many may say its over for DQVII , i am still waiting cmonn square *sigh*

I’m convinced it’s coming at this point. I’m thinking they’ll reveal VII, X and DQM 3D all at once in a special Nintendo Direct while showing the new DQM and DQXI for Wii U (and any other spin-offs coming) in a Japanese direct at the same time… probably during TGS, though I would be ecstatic is it was the August direct at Gamescom.

        Lol, poor guy.

        • ElAbuelo69

          No kidding. So innocent :)

          • awat

i agree with @randy and @james I believe that we will get the unlocalized DQ games hopefully very soon :)

    • Randy Marsh

Well since Dragon Quest VII is on the official Dragon Quest
mobile website as one of the titles getting ported to the Android and iOS, we’ll obviously get it considering they’re actually starting bring the mobile ports to the west. So don’t worry, you’ll get DQVII 3D, you’ll get DQVII 3D….hehe.

18.99 for a straight port of the DS version? that’s a bit overpriced, no?

    • James Robert Thompson

18.99 NZD, it’ll be 14.99 US. and even then it’s not a straight port, they’ve added the Party Talk function and a fast forward for battle animations which really speeds up grinding… not that IV needs much to be fair.

    • Perro

Eh, you know it’s not too bad. As of late, the DS version is commanding really high prices.

    • dmysta3000

Considering the DS version is currentley going for over $90 on amazon right now, I’ll gladly take this for 15 bucks

  • jugss

Is this game stable? As in no glitch or crash?

    • Zero_Destiny

Been about an hour since I started playing it, no crashes and everything runs fine (on my iPhone 4s). Plays as it should, and I didn’t notice any new typos thankfully (except Dargon Quest IV being the name on iTunes x’D).

The iTunes page doesn’t list any warnings ether, where for Dragon Quest VIII the iTunes page flat out listed warnings for crashes, recommendation for hardware, and some work arounds to get the game playing on older model phones.

The game was a bit big and harder for some phones/tablets to run (since most reports seem to of been for older model phones/tablets) so DQVIII’s shaky performance probably has more to do with the fact that it’s such a big game for phones, the DL size seems to list it at 1.3GB (where DQIV is listed at 171MB).

But yeah, anyways, in short, about an hour into the game, everything is running fine, and no real signs pointing to any glitches or crashes yet. The reception on the Japanese iTunes seems to be mostly positive too, since it’s been out for awhile over the pond. I’ll keep playing though to see more.

However, on a side note, I will say on my 4s the game kinda cuts off a bit, since it was optimized for the longer iPhone5 screen. It’s barely noticeable, but it is there.

Does this version have confirmed party talk / chat? I want to know if I should get this version or try and play the DS version… If this has the missing content, I’ll gladly pay the money for it.

    • MK

Yes this has party chat translated which was omitted from the ds version.

    • Zero_Destiny

Party chat is included this time.

You activate it by pressing the little face icon on the menu.

They should go all out and misspell the company name. They’ll get press about it for years!

    • Zero_Destiny

Oh my God, CeeCee. xD You guys are the best. lol

  • http://jesse-dylan.livejournal.com Jesse_Dylan

I’m a little disappointed that this is every bit as ugly as the DS version. Still, it is one of the best RPGs ever made, and party chat is back! I would buy it no matter what to support it, but I think I will play through it yet again, too. :) Now where is DQ I-III??

Buy this and DQVIII! We need more DQ, in whatever form!

    • MK

The DS version actually inherited those graphics from the PS1 remake.

  • Fairlee

Still waiting on the news for DQVII…
