The iOS version of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is coming to North America and Europe, Capcom announced today.

A release date for the iOS version has not been announced, but the port will feature HD resolution. A price has not yet been announced yet either.

Meanwhile, in Japan, Capcom are developing The Great Ace Attorney, the first game in an entirely new series, for the Nintendo 3DS. This game has no release date yet either.

All of my yes. Now I don’t need a 3DS anymore.

    • John Diamond

cept for when capcom announce the new ace attourney.
hey can u blame me for dreaming? they aren’t sega

      • Guest

        Take that elsewhere.

    • Fronkhead

I hope you’ve played Layton Vs AA, which I found to be a far better game than AA5, one that was more ambitious at it too and with better, more fitting writing thanks to Takumi’s large involvement.

I wonder what Hino from Level-5 thought of AA5 after what he mentioned about Layton Vs AA in Iwata Asks:

“After playing the game, I really feel able to say that. This is a game that Takumi-san got fully-immersed in the development of, and is therefore a “real” Ace Attorney game. The fact that people are expecting big things from it makes me happy.”

  • nonscpo

What’s the point of owning a 3DS if Capcom continues to port their franchises to tablets, next well be told that MH3U and MH4U are gonna be headed to IOS?

    • AuraGuyChris

Because secretly their games don’t meet their weird expectations?

      • Altin

I think you are mixing up Capcom with Square Enix x3
That aside, it is in fact surprising to see Capcom dishing out Ports to other platforms that frequently.

        • Arcueid Brunstud

they are both similar the 2 Capcom and square enix aren’t meeting their expectations. except square isn’t giving the finger to the fans.

    • Because there are other companies that publish great games on the console than Capcom?

    • The point is Atlus, next question

    • Arcueid Brunstud

because it has a lot better games than a phone ever could. its a no brainer that’s why its called handheld games.

    • darke

Didn’t they just port a MH game to iOS? I’m guessing the answer to your question is probably going to be ‘yes’.

  • Strain42

As someone who really enjoys mobile games, I don’t understand all these iOS ace attorney games being released. I’ve played it on iOS and it just works so perfectly with the dual screens you get with DS consoles.

That said, I am in full support of these iOS ports because I’m starting to think those are our only hope for ever getting an official release of AAI2, assuming that ever gets the iOS treatment as well.

    • XypherCode

      Capcom wants your money.

      • Strain42

and if they localize AAI2 they can have it :P

      • disqus_P3Wxk5exlW

Epiphany: ALL companies want your money. That is why they make products or provide services.

        • XypherCode

Not sure you understood what I said…

          • disqus_P3Wxk5exlW

My interpretation of your comment was that you perceive this iOS release as some kind of desperate money-grab, but I suppose in retrospect you could have been commending them for releasing something worth buying. What DID you mean?

    • You know it started off on GBA which only has one screen, right? Also the original trilogy has been ported to the Wii

      • Strain42

I am aware of both of those things. I never claimed it debuted with the dual screens, I just said it works better with the dual screens, and I stand by that.

    • triablos

I personally think AA is one of the game series that are perfect for mobile gaming. If you don’t think its well suited, I wonder what you think about MHFU lol

      • Fronkhead

Indeed, Ghost Trick was a great fit too (though capcom’s port was lazy and left a lot to be desired).

As for MHFU, shame the HORIPAD wasn’t released at the same time the game was released here.

        • triablos

Yeah, basically anything that is point and click or similar is great on mobile.

Speaking of ghost trick, a few years ago I downloaded it on my iPod, thinking it was the full game for free. I was heartbroken when I discovered it was only a free demo and you had to pay to unlock the full content. Still haven’t played it yet lol

  • James Reilly

Definitely buying this since I currently have no desire to own a 3DS.

  • XypherCode

I’m not really into mobile gaming but I still play some that I enjoy. But for these “high profile” games/franchises I prefer to play them on dedicated systems. And I’m also one of the few who really enjoys the 3D effect on the 3DS.

    • HarakiriKami

      More like the silent majority

  • Derry Santoso

    Oh God Yes!!!! XD

  • Reki Honoo

Now if capcom would take the time to localize other series, like gaist crusher.

  • Brandonmkii

The more people that can play it, the better.

  • Shade DMessiah

Nothing against Ace Attorney or mobile gamers, but i kinda hate when companies to this to games. I dont buy any game on my vita, 3ds, ps3 etc thats on a mobile platform because i see it as this.
“…..can run the exact same version of my console game…….are they insulting my gaming console?”

    • HarakiriKami

Thats your own issue dude. Get over it for the good of the industry.

Just buy the games. I mean at least the 3DS has 3D going for it lol.

Vita has buttons at least/back touchscreen

      • Shade DMessiah

I never said i wasnt ok with it, i just personally dislike it. I doubt there’s any issue i have to get over because i don’t like something. It’s not like they’ll ever stop doing this because of me or anything.

The 3DS and Vita are also kind of early in their life span so their games are only going to get better and better looking.

    • It WAS a temporary exclusive for a while. Every true hardcore fan already bought it. They’re just trying to reap a larger profit from a wider pool. But don’t worry; it’s not coz it’s on mobile that more people will purchase it. Moreover isn’t the next installment already slated for 3DS? So I’m not worried an AA game will release exclusively or primarly on iOS. At least we dedicated console gamers have that going for us.

    • Aerii

you hate that I’m going to get to play this Ace Attorney game even though I don’t want to buy a 3DS because I already have a Vita?

      • Shade DMessiah

Jesus Christ, people. Are you offended? You have nothing to do with what i hate or like, ok? I couldn’t give to damns about things like this happening even after what i said.

People keep commenting negatively like i just bashed the greatest game of all time. Re-read the first half of the first sentence before you comment.

Edit: Lemme just say this as well, since you cant seem to read and take my comment into context. I hate SEEING FULL FLEDGED HANDHELD GAMES ON MOBILE PLATFORMS. Hell, it doesnt even happen alot. Things like Minecraft Pocket edition are perfectly fine by me. So are games like Chaos Rings and the world ends with you because the regular DS isnt current gen at all and it just….feels right.

  • Nick Greene

    Why not for android too?

    • Fronkhead

95% piracy rate is the most likely culprit, also it is more costly testing for and supporting many devices, even moreso if your game has a global market (Android phones in Japan are quite different to the ones in the west, with many obscure brands that don’t exist outside the region making hardware).

      • darke

The high piracy rate is irrelevant if most of those people can’t actually buy it anyway:

Article’s from two years ago, but China is still not allowed to buy games on google play due to, well, probably China since I can’t imagine google not wanting to make money.

Or you could reference this article which has more stats from devs saying that iOS piracy is just as high as android:

Just remember that 87.5% of stats are made up wanting to make you believe things that people with an agenda want you to believe; it always pays to do a little research.

        • Fronkhead

To add to your first point, in Japan Android users are also advised to buy off carrier stores rather than Google Play, if I remember correctly.

As for the stat, I didn’t blindly select it, it was from several developers actually stating the ratio of how many copies were sold versus how many were pirated, and it comes out at close to 90% many times. The first account for which was Football Manager. It isn’t a case of me not doing “research”, as I’m aware of statistical bias such as selection bias and other things, as well as the tendency for people to extrapolate and misrepresent figures.

Your figure is just as flawed as mine since you’re doing the same as I was: extrapolating from data from essentially two developers’ games to make generalisations about all the games. But if we are extrapolating then who can say Capcom isn’t either? After all, we’re trying to figure out why the game isn’t on Android, though this isn’t the only factor worth considering anyway.

Anyway, I don’t disagree with you at all, though I’m a bit miffed thy you’d think I pulled this statistics out of thin air and haven’t done my research :S

  • M’iau M’iaut

Just a reminder. Port begs remain against the rules.

    • Arcueid Brunstud

seriously you people need to chill. Unless I see people cussing others out or getting personal than its no big whoop.

      • Altin

If you don’t see any fights it’s most likely because the Mods already deleted all related comments to a discussion.

        • Arcueid Brunstud

I really hope its the serious ones.

          • Altin

Once you stick around here for a little longer, you will find it out.

Also, good to see a Tsukihime fan. Cheers for that.

          • Arcueid Brunstud

yeah I watched the anime liked it but wasn’t satisfied so I read the visual novel. well arcuieds and was satisfied I need to finish the other parts

          • Altin

You better do that. The other routes are incredible. Akiha’s route still remains my favourite as of now. The other routes are just as great. Hope you have a blast with them.

          • Arcueid Brunstud

I know but its very hard especially since I work 2nd shift and get a few hours to myself. plus I am trying to finish xenosaga I plan on completing the entire xeno related games after xenosaga I am going to xenogears and beating all megaman x games

          • Altin

Just take it easy then ;)

          • Arcueid Brunstud

cant since I am entering the busy season soon at work so yeah its going to be a pain.

          • Arcueid Brunstud

I am reading the visual novel off of youtube it has all except some optional parts on akiha and the maids hisui and kohaku

    • Kaitsu

EDIT: nvmd, site be lagging on me

  • keithmaxx

Well, at least other non-US and non-Europe can download a localized version of the game on a mobile platform. Not dissing Android, but the AppStore at least allows you to dl the game from anywhere as long as you have an account for that region.

I wonder how it’ll look on an iPad….

  • Wow. They finally did it? Hmmm… guess I can finally experience Dual Destinies without getting the 3DS yet. We’ll see, we’ll see if I’ll get cuz I have a backlog to deal with XD

  • David García Abril

    Android, Capcom!

    Make it happen!

    • subsamuel01

A lot of publishers opt not to put their games out on Android because of the high piracy rate. Wouldn’t be surprised if this never made it to Android either.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

This was a great game on 3DS. I wonder if the ios version is going to have the DLC trial or not?

    • relsirc

The iOS version does have the DLC trial and costumes. Off course its a different cost. The first chapter is free to play, then you can buy off each episode.

  • Göran Isacson

Sweet, more Ace Attourney to a bigger audience. The more people who know and love this franchise the better I say… actually, I’m sort of curious now. Is there any numbers out there detailing how the Ace Attourney series have sold on mobile phones? Is there like a big audience for it there, or is the bigger audience still on console?

  • Fronkhead

I tried the Japanese version of this yesterday and it’s the best Capcom iOS port to date by a long shot. Runs at a smoother framerate than 3DS, the high res 2D assets are gorgeous, the “retina” visuals are crisp.

I do feel that the lack of 3D hurts the presentation, though, everything feels so flat.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

I still have to download this. Most of my AA experience has been on handhelds except for the Wii ports which could have benefited from this style graphical upgrade.

  • Lumi

    Sigh… Android?
