Overdrive Working On New Go! Go! Nippon! Game

By Ishaan . August 9, 2014 . 12:31pm

Earlier in the year, Hiroshi “Bamboo” Takeuchi, the president of visual novel developer Overdrive, said that he was encouraged by the sales of Go! Go! Nippon!, the studio’s first visual novel aimed at the Western market.

Go Go Nippon! is a game that puts you in the shoes of a boy visiting Japan for the first time, and being shown around by a pair of twin girls. The game went on to sell 10,000 copies, which is fairly impressive for a visual novel, and Takeuchi said that he would like to create a “version 2” of the game with updated aspects.

True to his word, Takeuchi appears to be doing just that. Last month, on Twitter he revealed: “I started the development of ‘Go! Go! Nipppon-2014-’.”

We reached out to MangaGamer—who share a partnership with Overdrive and published the first Go! Go! Nippon!—for comment, but were told they couldn’t quite talk about the new game just yet.

I’m cool with this I liked the first one, so i hope they keep up the good work.

  • Christopher Nunes

YES! I loved the first one and I love to get the second one when it comes out as well! ^_^

  • Forrestfield

The first one was short but sweet, I’d love to see them flesh this one out a bit more.

  • Anewme…Again

I guess steam helped sales a lot, i remember last year mangagamer saying the sale of that game was dissapointing.

  • Milewide

This game touched me in so many places.

Never heard of this before. Looked it up on Steam. It was age-gated *sigh*… I think I could see where this was going. Then I saw this:

    Recommended
    2,999.7 hrs on record
Cheaper than a trip to japan, and you can find pure love,
    at home,
    in front of your monitor,
    in 2D form…

what am i doing with my life?

    Uh….

    • DS23

Steam doesn’t allow ‘ero’ stuff on its service.

  • Hexodious

Audio would be great, you know.

  • ShootThatWay

Funny, I would had never heard of this game until Game Grumps played it.
It wasn’t impressive, but maybe it’s because they ruined the mood of the game.

    • Kaitsu

It wouldn’t have been impressive either way. It was either Girl A or Girl B.

It wasn’t even a game even. Game Grumps only made it more entertaining for me.

  • dknighti

It only did good because of the boobaroos and the splatadoos

  • Egil

    samodai guys, samodai

  • Quizler

Hopefully they get some VA this time, I was cool with no sex scenes even though my favorite overdrive eroges had them-they were still backed up by amazing stories-But when I found out there was no voice that was kind of a downer.

  • Robert Dexter

So, same game with ‘updated’ stuff. Make it an eroge already!

  • Yue D Andre

I remember one of the girl that had a nice rack. If i think about it, that was the reason i play the game, lol~ fanservice ftw

  • Strain42

Steam Train was probably responsible for most of those sales. If they do decide to do another game, I hope they make it more of…y’know…an actual game. I know it’s a visual novel designed to teacher westerners about being in Japan, and that’s great (I had such a nostalgia rush watching it from when I lived over there) but some more actual game would have been nice. VN doesn’t automatically have to mean No Game :P

  • Wilder

I learned from this game, that if I ever go to Japan, naked girls will wait for me in the bathroom, and have a japanese gf in 1 week.

  • Ladius

It’s great to see all ages visual novels being successful, Overdrive and Mangagamer are doing a lot to push the genre both on their own store and on Steam with their recent announcements.

  • TheManWithPants

Just got the original, actually. Been enjoying it so far, but it’s a bit too short. Hopefully they’ll add more towns to explore and more dating routes for the girls. Game’s a bit too linear; they should add more dialogue tree options or something. I’m 4 days in, and so far there’s only been one dialogue option, regarding what I wanted the main character to eat. Looking forward to the updated version, though!
