Shiny Beldum To Be Distributed In America For Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire

By Ishaan . August 10, 2014 . 9:30am

It was recently revealed in Japan’s CoroCoro magazine that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will include a Shiny Beldum that you can acquire within the game. In North America, this Beldum will be distributed over the Internet when the games launch on November 21st.

The Shiny Beldum will evolve into Shiny Metang and eventually Shiny Metagross. Beldum will come holding its Mega Evolution stone, which means that Steven, the Pokémon Champion of the Hoenn region, won’t be the only person with a Mega Metagross in their possession.

Other recently reported Mega Evolved Pokémon such as Mega Altaria, Mega Salamence, and Mega Lopunny have been officially confirmed as well, and are all shown in the trailer above.

Additionally, Pokémon Contests in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have been detailed as well. Here’s what The Pokémon Company have to say about them:

Once players arrive at the Hoenn region’s Pokémon Contest Spectacular, they can enter their Pokémon in five different contest categories—Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness—in which the Pokémon is judged on one of these five conditions. For example, in a Toughness Contest, a Pokémon will display moves to show off its Toughness appeal. Demonstrating a move like Flying Press will get the audience excited, but using the move Play Nice probably won’t elicit the same excitement. The more excited the audience gets, the more the Pokémon will maximize its appeal.

After entering the Contest for the first time, you will receive your own Cosplay Pikachu, which knows moves that regular Pikachu can’t normally learn. You’ll be able to use these Pokémon in battle as well.

Finally, it has also been revealed that Horde Battles are back in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. These are no longer limited to wild encounters either—now, you can also encounter a horde of Pokémon trainers all at once, and defeating them will provide even more experience points.

Lopunny isn’t as sexy in this form…

    • biskmater

      Unless you’re into torn stockings.

    • andref

I don’t know about you but lopunny always seemed creepy

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

The contests look amazing from what little we’ve seen so far. Personally, they’ve always been my favorite part about the games, and their disappearance for the Musicals in Black and White kind of hurt me.

Also, I really want to make a pun off of Lopunny.
Unfortunately, all of them would be notfunny.

    • IsaacGravity

I missed Ribbons myself. Hurts now knowing my guys took a vacation in Unova and have no achievements to show that they did.

  • Daniel Williams

really hoping they do a mega flygon

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

    Trainer Horders! I can’t wait!

  • jugss

Icicle Crash Pikachu!!!! Kyurem-B is jealous. Its as if Raichu did not exist.

    • AuraGuyChris

I’m not getting my hopes up with those cosplay moves. They’ll probably be suckish for competitive battling because of the unevolved Pikachu…

    • andref

Come on, if you already weren’t aware, light ball pikachu already made Raichu useless, though slower than raichu light ball pikachu is a powerful glass cannon

      • jugss

I know about Light Ball it just that with Pikachu being the mascot I doubt they’d even give Raichu a Mega Evolution.

        • andref

I couldn’t even imagine what a mega raichu would even look like

          • AuraGuyChris

Super long tail, throw random spikes on the waist, make it look fugly, overall appearance looks like something out of Digimon.

            There.

          • HarakiriKami

No these mega evolutions have to make some basic sense.

All pokemon make sense after all

Its gotta be weird japanese shit above all.

            Like Mega Manetric

  • AuraGuyChris

Shiny Beldum has officially become useless in rarity.

Shiny Bagon, on the other hand, has become the rage.

    • Guillermo Oliva III

Nothing became overly rare ,since they lowered the shiny pokemon rate and same with Shiny Bagon & Gible! XD

      • AuraGuyChris

That still doesn’t change things by much, though.

And that can last a long time anyway.

  • FlobotingIt

Ugh. I really hated Horde battles… I don’t wanna do that again -_- If you don’t have a pokemon with a move that attacks all of them at once, then it can be a pain.

    • Princess_Eevee9

Because you know you aren’t super overleveled when fighting them that if your Pokémon are dying then it’s your fault for not training them correctly. Complaining about Horde Battles is stupid considering that’s how some animals in the actual wild attack other animals.

      • FlobotingIt

Um… I’m allowed to say that I didn’t like horde battles. And when is Pokemon supposed to be super realistic?! I never died in a horde battle, I was super overleveled. I just found it to be a pain in the ass.

        • Princess_Eevee9

When did I say super realistic? And you’re high if you can see that Pokémon does take after elements found in real life.

          • ThatGuy3190_7

I’m pretty sure fairies and dragons doesn’t or no longer exists in real life or on Earth.

      • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

What kind of hell opinion is that…?! Not everyone enjoys horde battles, you know.

      • AuraGuyChris

You know why people hate Horde Battles?

        This.

        Chikorita used Absorb!
        WILD SENTRET USED SAND ATTACK!
        WILD SENTRET USED SAND ATTACK!
        WILD SENTRET USED SAND ATTACK!
        WILD SENTRET USED SAND ATTACK!
        WILD SENTRET USED SAND ATTACK!

        • FlobotingIt

Thank you!!! You have said exactly what happens! And those five attacks take like 2 minutes total!!!! And with no skip dialogue/narration option, even with the skip battle animations on (which is really only for people who wanna get through a long patch of the map), it still can take some time!

          • Princess_Eevee9

Switch Pokémon or have a Pokémon with Keen Eye. Easy.

          • AuraGuyChris

And when you don’t…? Not everything has Keen Eye.

          • Princess_Eevee9

If you’re just going through the game for the first time many Pokémon know the ability. If you’re going back in Routes or done with the game you have a Pokémon with multi-hitting moves. Stop with these flimsy excuses.

          • AuraGuyChris

Flimsy excuses? Girl, a lot of people aren’t that prepared. Horde Battles are disliked by many people outside of the EV training and necessary captures because you waste a lot of time trying to defeat every Pokemon EARLY in the game.

        • SlickRoach

Never happened to me. Can’t you just switch to return your accuracy back to normal? It’s not that big an issue and helps EV training massively.

          • ThatGuy3190_7

I think his point was that the rotation of turns until it is your turn again takes too long, not the fact of loss of accuracy due to 5 sand attacks in a row.

          • SlickRoach

But still, horde battles were only like 10-15% of the game if not less. I found them actually pretty rare to encounter without just using Sweet Scent or Honey. And if you can’t run from a Pokémon half your level then you’re doing something wrong.

          • ThatGuy3190_7

I don’t think running away from them isn’t an issue he has, and not everybody has rare encounter with horde battles.

          • JohnNiles

Running away lags the game for a bit. That’s why I dread horde encounters.

          • AuraGuyChris

Yes, I can switch in and let my second Pokemon get its eyes screwed up by another round of Sand Attack.

Horde Battles are annoying to do during the beginning of the game. You’re better off fighting those in the post-game…

      • ThatGuy3190_7

Hey look, a horde of Zangoose and a shiny Seviper. Oh wait, the horde ganged up on shiny Seviper and it fainted. Horde battles are fun, right?

        • Princess_Eevee9

“Oh hey they implemented that Zangoose and Seviper hate each other and should kill each other according to their PokeDex description.” Yep they sure are. Sucks that will happen but dealing with Hordes are a risk in itself.

        • SlickRoach

I thought it was awesome how they implemented that as a nod to their Pokédex rivalry. And how many shiny Sevipers have you encountered so far anyway?

          • ThatGuy3190_7

About eight times. Never caught any of them because sleep spore doesn’t stay in effect for too long.

        • Aaron K Stone

Then take out the Zangoose first.

          • ThatGuy3190_7

A horde of Zangoose and one shiny Seviper. You can’t just take all Zangoose out at once and expect a Seviper to remain, just like you can’t take out one Zangoose and expect the rest to not attack Seviper.

    • chibidw

They were the best EV grinding method in the game, however. I doubt many people are going to want them gone after getting hooked on that.

      • FlobotingIt

Eh, I can see that. I never really EV grinded, so for me, they weren’t anything really special. Now, if you were able to have your own horde in a horde battle… That would be good. But when it’s one of you versus five others, not so much fun. I like how SMT4 handled hordes over how Pokemon did.

  • Princess_Eevee9

Can’t wait needs to be November already.

  • ThatGuy3190_7

When I think of a horde of trainer battles, all I can think of is Joey and his buddies all sending out Rattatas at you.

    • Byron Kerrison II

But they’re the TOP PERCENTAGE of Rattata.

I would be afraid if I were you.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/BaoZakeruga BaoZakeruga

Was already planning on having a beldum in my party. Gamefreak just sweetened the deal.

  • IsaacGravity

Awesome. So hopefully this means now the Team Grunts will finally wise up and come at you at once.

  • Aaron K Stone

Hmm hoard trainer battles… Why do I think this will result in some amusing pictures.

    • AuraGuyChris

I think they mean the Winstrate Family.

  • Banned

The only gameplay update I want to hear is the removal of HMs.

    • HarakiriKami

      no.

  • Aemette

Contests were and still are amazing so I’m glad they’re keeping them in this game and expanding on them. I picked up my Emerald recently and I forgot just how tough and fun that could be, like battles. On a side note, with the inclusion of “Primal evolutions” for Kyogre and Groudon, I could totally see these being used for the Regis as well.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/DisturbedKoala DisturbedKoala

Horde of trainers? It’s all out war now. Lol

    • Snorlaxation

Getting freakin’ ambushed right before the next town.

      • Raltrios

Hopefully this will increase the difficulty over XY. I’m excited for this!

      • JohnNiles

You came to the wrong neighborhood…

  • http://playstationallstars.wikia.com/wiki/PlayStation_All-Stars_Wiki Sackchief

Finally Contests are back. Everything is now right with the world.

  • Raltrios

Another electric type gets the Rotom treatment, eh?

  • echokanon

Nice way to solve the problem of Pikachu can’t mega but needs some unique special boosting for the anime

  • https://twitter.com/BurstZX Devin Isom

Thats right make shiny meta a common and no longer special thing by giving it away like candy. Just destroying the value by doing this.
Event pokemon should only be for stuff unobtainable in game
such as pokemon with special moves or items.

    • Attribule

They’ve never implemented “rare” or “valuable” Pokemon in the entire franchise outside of the things that sell some extra merchandise here and there, so things like this are totally expected. The issue is that the developers for Pokemon have no clue how to make a fun, rich gaming experience. Honestly, they half-ass the main game each installment and only cater to competitive play.

The games have no mystique or sense of adventure. They always just hand you everything. Even “legendaries” are given to you with literally 0 effort. There isn’t ever a moment where they allow you to get that feeling of owning something incredible. It’s all junk, and even they’ve admitted to creating too many throw-away Pokemon and haven’t focused much on quality.

      • https://twitter.com/BurstZX Devin Isom

Shiny legends were actually incredibly difficult to obtain but they just so happened to lock mascot legend’s shiny forms for whatever reason. IMO shiny was the one thing that added value to any poke and they’re making it increasingly more easy to get them.

  • Kaijumaster

I’m gonna play the hipster and complain, I have a Shiny Meta from Emerald….this is just taking away his coolness.

  • DarthSithZero

But…I already have a Lvl100 Metagross waiting for that Megastone.

btw Blue is way cooler than Silver.

  • Vash bane

like I said ounce before ahem

the game looks cool and the new megas are a welcome but I guess I wont have a cosplay pika because I’m not touching that …at ALL… but knowing gamefreak they are going to force it on you the first time -_-

edit:also the new girl with the blue hair (forgot her name already lol) she will have a megastone too. so yeah more mega users
