Here’s Some In-Progress Gameplay Footage From Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

By Ishaan . August 13, 2014 . 10:31am

WayForward Technologies have shared some in-progress footage from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, featuring one of the game’s speed stages, titled “Sequins of Unfortunate Events”. You can watch the footage below.

WayForward have also discussed some other aspects of the game’s development in their most recent update. Specifically, they say that, since the scope of the game has increased with all of the added Stretch Goal content, the game will not make its planned October 2014 launch.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.

    The game looks really nice!

I haven’t had a chance to play any of the older games, but I’m going to get this one for sure! I’m really itching for some old-school platform games!

  • Hagaren

This reminds me a bit of Sky Chase and Wing Fortress from Sonic 2. Hope we’ll see more soon!

  • Yan Zhao

    Love her animatins :D

  • Alex

So how about that Pirate’s Curse?

  • D-Omen

Seeing that the Sky, Bolo and Rotty stretch goal is a lock now is the best thing. Always wanted to play as them and I will finally be able to! :D

Can’t wait to get both Pirate’s Curse and Half-Genie Hero (Wii U for both). It’s a good time to be a Shantae fan. :-)

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

I thought the carpit racing would be actual racing but this it still looks like fun.

  • Ethan_Twain

No way. Way Forward delayed a Shantae game?

At this point I don’t even think the 3DS game is real.

    • Michael Richardson

I bet they’re delaying it because of the Wii U version of Pirate’s Curse they announced a few months back.

      • Princess_Eevee9

        That they did.

    • Shippoyasha

It’s not like the 3DS is in its last legs though. It probably has a good 3 or 4 years left in it.

I’d rather Way Forward make this game perfect.

    • XiaomuArisu

They reached a new stretch Goal
      Hero Mode
      Thats why

    • Princess_Eevee9

Cause the Wii U version wasn’t revealed or nothing right?

  • mikanko

Really diggin’ the silhouettes in the background of that magic carpet section. Nice use of a 3d engine in a 2d game.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Dem visuals

  • Looks very impressive. On behalf of my PS3 and Vita, we thank you, WayForward! And we’ll thank you again once the game is released.

The song that was playing throughout was awesome! XD

    • Seth Rich

I think it’s an updated version of the bandit town theme from the first game. I smiled when I heard it. Then I frowned when it was cut off.

      • Really? I need to try out these older Shantae titles; should be available on the eShop, right?

        • Seth Rich

Yeah, they’re all there. The first one’s pretty retro, but it has its charm. There’s just something about dancing to transform into animals and explore dungeons in ways you hadn’t before that makes it so amusing. I can’t wait for pirate’s curse. It looks like the best of the three.

          • You’re making it all the more enticing for me now. Next time I get a eShop card, I’ll definitely buy them.

          • D-Omen

Play them in order! The first Shantae is kinda dated in some regards, but the ability to create save states on 3DS is a godsend. Then grab Risky’s Revenge and by the time you’re done with both, Pirate’s Curse should just be coming out. :D

          • Will do so. Thanks. :D

  • RagingTiger44

Delays to add more content. No problem. I still have to play the other Shantae games.

  • Looks great so far! Can’t wait! :)

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

It looks fantastic. I’m so happy I was a backer.

I trust these guys, so they can take as much time as they want.

  • Yoshi Haku

looking great, wasn’t expecting an October release, it’s August and they have yet to release Pirate’s Curse.

  • DudeJericho

This looks fantastic, will be getting!

  • CudaBiro

    Looks good.
