Chaos Rings III For PlayStation Vita Also Includes The First Three Games

By Sato . August 22, 2014 . 10:32am

The name Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy was a little confusing when Square Enix originally announced it for PlayStation Vita, but according to the latest report from Famitsu, it makes a lot more sense now that we know that the first three games in the series are also bundled with it.

Included in Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy are: Chaos Rings, Chaos Rings Omega, and Chaos Rings II as part of the package, in addition to the third numbered game.

The e-Store will also have a limited edition version of Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy that includes an art book, OST, and a light novel.

It also includes a serial code to acquire a special card for the PlayStation Vita version of Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur, too.

More details will be revealed during Tokyo Game Show 2014, which takes place next month. Meanwhile, you can catch up on the latest with the story of Chaos Rings III in our earlier report.

Chaos Rings III is slated for release in Japan on October 16, 2014 for iOS, Android and Vita.

  • Oh, hey. That’s actually pretty cool.

  • Well, the Vita just got even better. English retail release when?

    • ecoutercavalier

Even better? It picked up an iOs port…

      • Saphiren

But Vita is getting three games, right? Seems “better” to me. Just because it’s an iOS port doesn’t mean it is worthless, imo.

        • ecoutercavalier

I actually really like the series for what it is.

        • Shade DMessiah

Tell that to people who bash the vita. “lol you just got an ios port.” That alone gives them a reason to say things.
As for me, i played the first two and they were good, but i already have a stance on “games i can play on my phone”. If 3 is a vita exclusive, i’m sure as hell getting it.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Chaos Rings III is launching on Vita and mobile on the same day.

          • Shade DMessiah

Oh, well thanks for the info. I’ll just get it on my phone then. Might as well save memory space in case a good digital only game comes out.

      • JonathanisPrimus

I don’t see how picking up an iOS port of a solid series of games suddenly makes Vita worse.

  • Combo

Good that they cleared up the confusion. That initial news story REALLY made it sound like the Vita game didn’t include Chaos Rings III. Which would’ve been weird for a product with “Chaos Rings III” in the title.

    • Jadfish

“what, you got three chaos rings games, that’s in the title, don’t complain so much. I swear vita users always complain so much”

  • Jordan Daku

I hope they release this in the US, I’ve really wanted to try this series.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

You can already play CR on a PSV since it’s been out on PSM for almost a year~.

    • David García Abril

You can easily play the first three games on smartphone and tablet, and even the first game on Vita.

These games work good enough on touch screens.

  • Kornelious

And I repeat my statement of the Vita version just might be the most popular version…..And hopefully this gives it hope for a localization! :D

    • yomachaser

I love your enthusiasm but that’s still a mad thing to say…but I also hope for localisation on vita.

  • Saphiren

    Pretty cool.

  • Zack

Oh, this is very surprising! I’m definitely importing this. It would be great if it’d be compatible with the Vita TV via DS4, but beggars can’t be choosers, I guess!

  • Federico

So it comes with four games right?

    • ecoutercavalier

    • Jadfish

the first one is really short (about 4 hours) but I can’t recommend it hard enough. Hell, the reason I jumped on it in the first place was because I heard it was about 4 hours long, and it doesn’t dissapoint. It is excellently paced.
You can also replay it, since you unlock a new game+ mode AND there are 2 pairs of main characters to choose from in the beginning.

      • Gojira Twit

I don’t know if I’d call it that short, especially if you go for the true ending.

        • Jadfish

true ending? ok hang the heck on, I’ll google this and download CR1 again

          • DEnM

if you do both pairs, you get two more. Then if you do those two, you can pick any of the four to do a final dungeon.

      • DEnM

There are 4 pairs of main characters, what are you talking about?

      • gwardyjay

What? The first one short? I’ve put 14 hours into and I just started on my third pair of characters.

  • dragoon_slayer12

Hopefully this comes stateside. I purchased them all on Android, but I don’t play on my phone, and I held out on the vita version in case the others didn’t follow. Definitely getting this if it comes

    • chibidw

Square Enix doesn’t even want to localize one of their more popular series(DQ7) for one of the more popular handhelds(3DS) – unfortunately hell will freeze over before they give us something on the Vita of all things.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

They gave us the first CR, so it’s not as unlikely as you think it is. If anything, because it’s on mobiles too~.

      • GH56734

Since this is iOS (ugh)…it’s different.
They do have English versions for all three games (I, II and the IAP one). As for III… it’s still not released yet in Japan.
It’s probable this one may come over.

      • Harvey Tejada Loto

They will localize this believe it

      • JonathanisPrimus

Dragon Quest VII on 3DS has 0 bearing on whether or not Chaos Rings Prequel Trilogy comes over on Vita. Dragon Quest VII is a massive game that’ll require a new localization. Every released Chaos Rings game already has a modern English translation. I’m sure Chaos Rings III will too. The cost of inserting an already existing English translation into the Vita games shouldn’t be high. They probably won’t do a physical release, but I’d be surprised if this doesn’t leave Japan.

  • Jadfish

I recently played through Chaos Rings 1 on my ipad (thanks to siliconera users recommendations) and it was a really fun little blast. I wish we got more smaller JRPGs like this.
I’ll wait a little on picking up CR2 until I know how long it’ll take that Vita package to arrive in EU, but I’m honestly not sure how long I can wait.
It was surprisingly pleasant to play a JRPG on my ipad.

    • indra jaya

I’m always fond of smaller scale or at least under 25 hour jrpg. it might make people scream “so little content!” but I cant stand 100 hour jrpg anymore (man, how I missed being teenager). and yes, good game is a good game no matter where its platform.

  • I liked Chaos Rings. But it got repetitive doing the same story over and over. I’d rather play one really long strong story. And ride it thru to completion. I hope 3 is like that.

    • Gojira Twit

Chaos Rings Omega was more like that, although I’m not sure you could call the story that long. And the fact it re-uses Chaos Rings environments probably detracts as well.

      • Was the story good at least?

        • Gojira Twit

I thought it was okay. Personally I preferred the first one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some people liked Omega more.

  • Now I definitely want this to get localized =)

  • DEnM

    U.S. release when?!

  • Oh. TGS is that close, huh? Nice~. I’m fairly interested. ♥

  • benhofb

I really hope that SE optimizes all three games for the vita this time, unlike the PSM release. As much as I loved it and enjoyed playing it, the framerate stuff and whatnot just kinda killed it for me. Plus having all of them on one or two carts will definitely be a plus. I had to remove the first one from my memory card because it was over 600mb. This is awesome news though. I really hope it comes to the west.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Definitely getting this, day one. Might just get the JP version depending on how long the gap is between US and JP.

  • Lester Paredes

Now that’s great news. I sure hope they bring it over.

  • DarkLight

Hope they bring this over, would love to play this on my vita

  • gwardyjay

I really liked the first game, but playing it on my iPhone has always been a big turn off. I’m really glad their putting on Vita and I’d be more than willing to chuck some dollars at Square if they wanted to release it in the states.

  • I actually liked the second one on android. Didn’t finish it though but really well made.

  • ishyg

Finally, I knew it wouldn’t be called the prequel trilogy without all the games.

  • Ric Vazquez

OK THIS JUST BECAME A MUST BUY FOR ME! Four for the price of one is a sweet deal :D

  • Göran Isacson

This? This I approve of. More like this please, SE.

  • Vayu Purana

oh please Localization Gods hear my prayers, have this for Vita in NA…..please
